Paterno thread (merged)

I am certainly not surprised, but then I can't imagine anyone is..

Now a second victim of Sandusky in the 1970s -- in 197freaking1! -- says he went to Paterno and he told him to drop it.

Paterno is in hell and anyone who defends him is a member of a cult. Period. Full stop.

This kid or his parents didn't go to the police? This looks a lot like the other anonymous and undocumented complaint which the insurer "discovered". They are trying to avoid an insurance payout.
This thing with the insurance company seems as sleazy as how PSU handled the situation.

I thought joe pa knew but just looked the other way and pretended he didn't. But being active in the cover up to the point where he called a victim and told him to drop the charges?!?! That makes this already terrible story much worse. Joe Pa legacy has to be completely tarnished forever

I'd say the odds of a teenage boy and his family, going to the police in the 70's about something that happened under Joe's watch (see: didn't want to lose their scholarship), were HIGHLY unlikely.

The damning evidence is that this kid -- way back in 1972 -- told a friend that he had been raped by that freak, and how it was reported to Penn State and Paterno. This friend, an independent witness, has verified the story.

I know I shouldn't have but I went on to the Penn State board. All I can say is those delusional clowns.

Is there any way the Big can send Penn State to the ACC? Trade them for Pitt. We should keep the cheaters and pedophiles together.

Penn State should change its' mascot from lion to ostrich.

Gary was there in the 90s.

An assistant coach from the 90's?!? could schiano possibly have been a witness to it? It's completely plausible now that he knew about or heard about it

Ironically One of his major charities was for missing and exploited children during his time at Rutgers

Really makes you wonder how this was kept under wraps for so long

He was old. Confused. Didn't understand what was really happening. No one told him anything.

That place deserves all the shame and ridicule it gets. And if Schiano is one of the assistants, then shame on him as well.

Hey watch it! @Knight Shift is gonna yell at you for posting Schiano and the 90s. LOL.

Schiano may have been culpable in this too. That makes him as bad as paterno . We should stop hurling stones at the penn staters because if schiano was involved we are going to hear it from everywhere . Let's let the facts come out

The difference is if Schiano did anything short of going to the police and kicking Sandusky's ass at the same time if he may have seen something he will be dead to us. And deservedly so.

The PSU folks won't hold their guys to the same standard - or any standard.

Where's Finebaum now and his f-in rant about putting the statue up? As if putting the statue back up is so damn important with all of the crap that happened there. Dude is such a shill for the biggest and nastiest programs.

Well if a coach in the mid 90's saw something and then told a room full of coaches it's safe to say Schiano at least heard about it. I always felt it would be kind of impossible to have worked at PSU during those years and not heard whispers.

Reportedly Assistant coaches some during the 90's saw things....

This story may be true --- but intuitively a cover-up/conspiracy is less liable to be successful as more people get involved.

Joe, Curley, Schultz, Spanier. 4 people.

6 assistant coaches as well??? Now we're at 10. Increased the # of people involved by 150%.

I've liked Schiano over the years, so hope he isn't involved. At the least, it's in his best interest to come out and forcefully deny --- and make that statement soon.

Only minor caveat would be that the power structure at Penn state went through paterno. Would have taken guts to go around him, particularly at that point in one's career (see Mcqueery), but regardless it would be a major red mark on Schiano and i'd be done with him. If something like this happened here on Schiano's watch, then it is an entirely different animal.

This story ,as odious as it may be, keeps defying the usual news cycle.Let it be. Did anyone seriously think that Joe PA ,who planted and tended to every rock and tree in H .Valley ,was not aware of Pedusky early on? Come on man?

everyone who has not drank the Kook Aid believed it. Joe was coach and ruler of Penn State...the whole school, not just the locker room. Nothing happened there without his knowledge. the cultist cries of "he did what he legally supposed to" are shameful. You don't just report to your supervisor and leave it at that unless you have no morals or unless Football is your God.

Joe and Penn State worship at the altar of football. plain and simple. No one and nothing else matters to them, not even the destroyed lives of young children raped by a pedophile.

How the hell did this grow to 6 coaches? It's like the media is just making stuff and piling on now. Ridiculous and unfair to the Paterno Family

2 JoeDidntKnow, Today at 6:32 PM

Who are the 3 coaches in the NFL and College they tried to interview? Why don't they just name them? ohhh...cause it's BS...

The next claim will be Sandusky was molesting boys at the College and Allen bus stop while students were changing classes. Nobody did anything at the time but they did make a point of stopping by Joe Paterno's office later to tell him about it.

Two of the three are Bradley and Schiano by obvious power of elimination on the NFL end.

The other is not obvious but can probably be found via some sleuthing if you are motivated. Maybe super sleuth Zig already has it?

I get it. With Paterno saying no, going around him was likely the end of your career. No other job is relationship based like college football coach - but JFC it's the safety of kids. You burn your career if you have to. It's cowardice at best and pure self interest at worst.

It will be interesting to see what else the Insurance Company (that Penn St wants to stick the 60 million tab on) comes up with. Will they uncover the names of those Asst Coaches and depose them ? They won't pay up until there is scorched earth at Happy Valley, and then some.

Penn State and Joe Pa worship at the altar of Football. Nothing matters but their god including children being raped by a pedophile.

what is more sickening is reading the delusional Kool Aid drinking asswipes over on BWI who will defend joe and psu and seemingly even jerry until their dying day.

I went to football camp there two summers in a row. The assistants absolutely feared that man. In our group a couple kids had handkerchiefs on their heads(gets scorching hot out there in summer) when Paterno came over they ran to the kids and ripped them off. They later explained that he hates kids wearing them and if they didn't get them off quick they would be scolded. If any kid spoke in his presence he was quickly scolded by the coaches and escorted back to the dorms. They treated that man like a God. Your statement is right on the money. Needless to say their camp was useless, we stopped going there my freshman year.

If Schiano was involved why should we hear it from anywhere? Will the Tampa Bay Bucs hear it? Da U? OSU? The NFL Network? ESPN?

That board is a place to go to lose your faith in humanity.

What is this supposed to mean?
The witness in the story, Bernie McCue, previously tweeted that he "respected Joe until the scandal broke in 2011." That doesn't exactly jive if he's telling the truth about the incident in the 70s.
