Paterno thread (merged)

so im trying to understand this logic. You all think that Joe Paterno was told by 2 children, one in 1971 and another in 1976 that they were raped by a low level assistant. After this, Joe Paterno promotes this person to Defensive coordinator, allows them to open a children's charity for AT RISK kids, and then lets his children be around him, over his house, in the pool with him. That doesn't make any sense to me but maybe im just an enabler.

It doesn't make sense that any decent human being would coverup child rape ever, yet it did happen and at your college and by Joe Paterno. You are just arguing degrees of guilt and that doesn't reflect well on you.

This guy made me break my own rule.

You never argue with an idiot, because from a distance no one can tell which is which.

My bad, folks.

Everybody has a brain..but really wouldn't call someone who rapes little boys in a shower in front of coworker as "extremely intelligent".

And FYI, I never made that argument. You don't have to be "smart" to pull this off. You just need to surround yourself with the right people..which it seems like Sandusky did. He had a safe haven, it appears.

But, Linebacker U?????

I do 100% believe Sandusky was intelligent enough to pull that off. Keep in mind for 3 decades this guys was one of the best defensive minds in football period. Jerry Sandusky's ability to coach up defenses particularly LB's were unparralelled in college football. It was when Sandusky was DC that PSU was coined 'Linebacker U'. In other words, he isn't a dumbass, he's actually extremely intelligent just unfortunately was a sicko and used his position to cause harm.

Your belief in his intellect is based on him being a good football coach? Do you guys go to class over there or do research? Because coaching football well does not in and of itself imply intelligence.

It's doesn't directly however it DOES show that Sandusky had a brain. Ur argument was "he wasn't smart enough to pull it off on his own". Well he was a hell of a lot smarter a person than John Gacy or Jeffrey Dommer. That's all I'm saying.

What's most funny though is literally EVERY other child abuse case u ever hear about the ONLY person that people are concerned with in society is the one who actually committed the crimes. For some reason just because it's penn state and Joe Paterno's name has been attached, all the loony college sports fans just took that and ran with it literally as a smear campaign against PSU.

U can't honestly sit there and say that when the sanctions came out, u weren't a bit excited at the possibility of RU capitalizing on some of their struggles particularly in recruiting since we are close by. But when that didn't happen and they were still beating us both for recruits and on the field it irked many of u, I'll be the first to admit it pissed me off that RU couldn't capitalize on the situation. And yes, I do believe that to be the primary reason why so many of you still care and talk about this case as much as you do

Show me the person who covered up Jerry Dahmer's murders and we'll all denounce him. Your argument is silly.

What about the dude in the freezer? Seems to me he could have stepped up and said something. I mean, ya know... before he was dead and all...

I've brought more facts to this thread than anyone else, just read back at what I wrote. I'm not going to re type what I've already posted. And for the record I've made it clear that I don't know one way or another what happened, none of us do, but I will say that I will never subscribe to the court of public opinion that most of this board does and declare people guilty until proven innocent which is exactly what most of you are doing in reference to Paterno in spite of the FACT that Paterno has never been and never will be accused of any legal wrongdoing in this case

So freaking dense...none of us were there or witnessed what happened but crap- even a lower level HC, knows pretty much everything that goes on and Joe Pa took control of that University like no one else has before or after at any University. Something happens one, maybe twice and it may get missed but something like this for years- you have to be so detached from reality to believe that.

Think about the cult of personality we are dealing w/ here and it will explain their logic.. They built a statue of the guy and placed it in front of the building he works at while he was still alive and working. Where else in the free world are there statues of people that are still alive? North Korea? Iran? Russia? Its amazing how many times we build statues of living people they end up being torn down for one reason or another.

Well Florida state did it for Bobby Bowden, the Chicago Bulls did it for Michael Jordan, The Baltimore Ravens put up a Johnny Unitis statue while he was still alive. The Lakers have announced a statue for Kobe. There will be a Ray Lewis statue unveiled shortly in Baltimore.

In other words it happens, not often but it does happen

THEN WHY HAVENT YOU DENOUNCED DOTTIE SANDUSKY OR MIKE MCQUEARY????! Those two are faaaaar more at fault for failing to report things than Joe and not one peep has been made about those two denouncing them. You just focus on Joe.

Let's say it was your son that MM saw in the shower.

You're okay with how everything was handled? No changes? o_O

Cause this thread is on Paterno and new allegations from the 70s.

We've discussed the McQueary situation plenty when info on the 90s incident happened. He wasn't involved in the allegations in the 70s.

Anyone who is a the top of their profession no matter what field that is has to have some level of intelligence. Let me ask you a question, do you think Chris Ash is a smart guy?

What new allegations were made against Paterno in the 70's? That hasn't happened at all. All that came out was PSU was paying a victim from 1971, THAT'S IT. NO WHERE does it say anything about Paterno in reference to the new reports.

You just took it upon yourself there to assume that Joe was somehow involved when the truth is that couldn't be further from the truth. PSU is currently paying settlements to 32 victims of Sandusky, of which exactly ONE had any involvement at all with Joe (the Mike Mcqueary report). EVERY OTHER VICTIM had zero involvement with Joe Paterno and now your lumping all of them in together? That's so dumb, like ridiculously dumb, like I'm embarrassed they let you cheer for Rutgers because clearly you don't have a college degree dumb

Fine.

Consider every one of these psu loving child rape enablers DENOUNCED. All of these psu scum should rot in hell.

p.s. - including your big nosed weirdo. He's waiting for them. Maybe they'll have a party.

Happy now?

I'm typing slowly, try to keep up.

You can say that Paterno did his duty when he informed his supervisors. But, then you are not allowed to deflect onto McQueary because he did exactly, what in your mind, exonerates Paterno of any responsibility. You can't have both sides of the same argument. As for his wife, that one always threw me. Assume most incidents occurred on campus and not in his home, but if I remember correctly there were reports of things happening in the basement of the Sandusky home. So it's fair to point a finger at her. But again, the issue, for me, is not Paterno, the guy is dead. The issue is the very deep seated desire for a sizable element of PSU's fanbase to hoist Paterno onto a podium.

It was said earlier that he was most concerned about his "good name", that's a legitimate concern. But, it that was true, you keep a person like Sandusky as far away from you as possible. What he knew may never be revealed, but the feeling that that guy ain't right had to creep into his mind.

I've never met him personally other than a handshake. I couldn't tell you.

No matter what the field? You think our top actors, performers, politicians, athletes are all smart because they are at the top of their professions? o_O

The Pennlive report, the CNN report, and an NBC news report that came out last Friday. I've linked them already earlier in the thread if you want to go back.

They say an accuser told Paterno in the 70s, while another one confirms that..and says Paterno told him to drop the allegations.

No one is defending them. It isn't even on the radar of possibly being discussed that they aren't despicable people.

You are not making very impressive arguments here. Are you a kid? Did you even graduate from PSU?

One of the accusers was on a phone call "assumed" to be with Joe Paterno, so that is where that came from. Obviously that is speculation and we don't know for sure.

"Couldn't be further from the truth" assumes that we know all of what transpired, and that is obviously not true. You take your opinion and assert it as fact.

In your time on the Banks did you take a course that included logic or deductive reasoning? There are flaws in the way you present an argument.

This to me is the typical Penn State defense....that everyone is jealous of us and takes joy in this circumstance. We are certainly closer geographically and from a rivalry standpoint, but why are USC fans disgusted with Penn State, why are national media people disgusted with Penn State, why are some Penn State alumni disgusted with Penn State. I don't think many take joy in this at all, but the fact that Penn Staters like yourself are so desperate to defend the indefensible is what drags this on.

Paterno wasn't dragged into this because we all are jealous of Penn State greatness (I didn't attend Rutgers, I like their football team, but it isn't my life)...Paterno was dragged into this because he was at the top of the power structure at Penn State and people without a vested interest in the outcome (i.e. most people not associated with Penn State football) see clearly that there is plenty of circumstantial evidence that would indicate that Paterno knew what was going on and failed to do the right thing.

^^^^^^THIS! Well stated.

It is indisputable that Paterno knew molestation happened. He himself admitted he was told. How the Paterno worshippers try to whitewash one of his own statements always astounds me.

Show me this report. That would be groundbreaking if what you are saying is true. Please show me a report where Joe admitted to knowing what was happening and we will put the issue to bed and I will instantly admit I was wrong?

That doesn't exist. That's the crap that some of you believe to be true and it results in this huge divide. What u just wrote was 100% false.

When did I limit it to Rutgers? There's idiot sports fans everywhere including Penn State. I would never say it's because we're jealous. I'm far from Jealous of the slandering they have to endure as a program.

It is time we Rutgers fans start to educate ourselves.

"While this site began as a defense of Paterno, after investigating the case for two years and interviewing Sandusky twice in prison, it became obvious that Sandusky himself has also been done a colossal injustice. While this revelation will be shocking to people who have not followed the case closely, if you look at the evidence here with an open mind, there is little doubt that you will come to the same conclusion."

It was groundbreaking at the time, "fondling" or "something sexual" in Paterno's own words on what he was told by a witness of what Sandusky was seen doing with a child in a shower.
Now, admit you were wrong and please exit this board.
