Paul Finebaum: ‘I have never met a Michigan fan who has had an ounce of humility’

Michigan has 29,000 undergrads yet they walk around boasting they are some kind of Ivy.

They last sole national championship in football was 1948. 1948!!!!! ('97 was a split with Nebraska).

They have every right to be arrogant.
Michigan is one of the elite public schools in the country and overall have achieved nothing but excellence in every area.
If you or one of your siblings went there you'd be equally proud and arrogant to announce it...even if you were from NJ and an RU football fan.

There is a huge difference between being proud and being arrogant.

I do find that Notre Dame and Michigan alums have the same expectation, which is when you find out they went to their schools, they are waiting for you to say something to the effect of 'Oh Wow.' and to be genuinely impressed. Never do they seem to care or be impressed with where you went to school.

In general, I find Michigan alum from the midwest to be nice and friendly people. I find Michigan alum that come from the NJ/NY area to be, well, arrogant, stuffy and conceded. It must be a geography thing.

I find their Head Coach to be the top dog in whiny and sniveling. He cries about every call. It's painful to watch when the cameras are on him whining and crying. It's impossible to root for in any situation and against any other school.

ND got an honorable men in that segment where this quote came from. JF just blasted UM . I was shocked by his comments...and there were MANY. Worth a Google.

Fans of elite programs show arrogance based on prior success and fans of other teams show envy.Winning matters in sports.

^^^ THIS ^^^

If you haven't done so, go see a game in Ann Arbor and compare it to your experience with Mich fans at HPSS.

The people in Ann Arbor are your typical nice Midwesterners. The Michigan fans at UM away games are the Walmart Wolverines with no affiliation to the university or the state of Michigan.

This is very true. Michigan has a huge fan base that did not attend UM and often have never even been in Ann Arbor.

I've lived long enough to know that the college one attended is not the measure of a person--not even close--and arrogance is never warranted. I have friends who went there, and their daughter, who is practically a niece to me, is in her freshman year, and I see her no differently than had she gone to Monmouth. She was a quality person prior to going to UM, and her choice of college meant nothing to me in that regard. Humility is far more appealing as a character trait than arrogance.
