Politi: "Greg Schiano deserves a contract extension as Rutgers clears a major hurdle"

Looks like Politi did it again.

Stirring the pot to gin up negative emotion during a moment of joy lol.

No better way to get the negative editorials and letters to the editor going than to talk about paying the football coach $6 million a year when faculty go on strike.

And he got the boards going to boot haha.

Well done Steve.

Well he is the expert on when a HC deserves an extension.

It will happen.
Definitely think there is a good chance it will happen even though I don't think it's the prudent move. ADs generally all do the same thing at the first sign of positive results and that's the problem imo.

Whether it happens or not, this is just debate/discussion between fans on a messageboard.

Ok

You seem to care and you seem to follow me from thread to thread, and bring in personal arguments from another thread into this one.

I’m glad that you have a great life. Now, relax.
No I don’t follow you however because YOU started the entire nonsense since we disagreed on a Wimsatt thread . No I suggest you go back coach and check … BTW : you have made claims of your credibility… so when we question what high school were you the OC it’s simply because you made a direct comment that “ listen to RUBOB72.” was you think you know more.
Lol at the who would hire GS crowd.

Some of us were around the first time when another crowd said the same thing until miami and michigan came calling.

Do you realize how many rebuild jobs there are each year- the bias has to be great as no informed person could think no one would offer gs.

But the coaching need to always have 4 years on your contract is absurd. Need some smarter ADs to change the paradigm.
Change: some are the same crowd of posters.GSDS sufferers.

Knight Shift, If we do not reup his contract and another school comes along and says we will pay you 8 mil to turn around our program, you do not think HCGS would entertain that? He wants to be paid what he is worth and if we don't pay him we risk losing the ONLY person who has been able to successfully run the program at the highest levels of competition in the history of Rutgers. He deserves a contract extension for getting them where they are and to lock him in for another five years. We need stability and a coach who can coach in the BIG, Schiano is it unless you want Ash back.

If someone comes along and offers HC Schiano $8m, do you think he wouldn't give Rutgers the chance to match?
Or the chance to pay him more than $8m at that time?

That's the actual risk - not losing him. Losing him for more money than we are willing to pay.
Why jump to conclusions and let the offers come in first?

Do you think HC Schiano doesn't want to actually be here and would leave in the middle of the night without any notice?

And if the risk is "someone will offer HC Schiano more and won't let us match it" - that risk doesn't go away if we extend him now.

If we did raise his salary to $6m/year - this mystery $8m offer could still come in anyway.
If we raise it to $8m/year - a mystery $10m/year offer could come in.

He did in 2012, does that answer your question.

That’s funny, Politi believes Ash should get a contract extension.
You have a great memory.

What amuses me the most is how Politi truly believes he is some kind of ultimate mover, shaker and puppet master in the decisions of the Rutgers AD particularly in the case of bringing GS back. In his mind it's him and only then Eric LeGrand that did all the heavy lifting to bolster public opinion. He's also very sensitive to being called out on just how unimportant his opinions are.

Edit: It's @NickRU714 with the great memory.

which is why we need to keep hammering him on how ignorant and clueless he is

he is no friend of RU, shocked anyone would give him clicks or time of day on purposeful basis.

shocked would be an understatement. It's akin to getting kicked in the teeth by the school bully and then going up to him each day asking if he wants to redo of the day before?

Even more - Politi doubled down on HC Ash needed an extension the next season.
Note - he didn't know Rutgers was obligated to extend the contract in 2017.
He advocated for an extension based on merit.

This follow-up tweet was after we started 2018:
35-7 W Texas State
52-3 L @Ohio State
55-14 L @Kansas

We would lose to Buffalo 42-13 the next weekend.

Would you? I wouldn’t. I make RU pay a prem to keep me.

If RU gave me a raise to 6mm, then I would give them a chance to match.

he's not leaving, no one wants him

only RU fans hold him in high enough esteem to suggest he's going to get poached. He's not succeeded anywhere outside of RU and RU success could be argued it was as much a factor of externalities as much as internals due to greg.
he got poached after making RU a good program the first go-round.
Don't think a repeat performance of turning the program into a winner won't bring offers and his failure at Tampa will be overlooked.
But don't worry because Greg will stay after making Rutgers good again, even though he'll be in demand again.
Schiano is happy here and has found out the money might be greener at other places that offer him, but happiness is being the RU HC and knowing most Rutgers fans want him.( until thy get tired of making minor bowls and demand playoff appearance )

I hate how the media jumps so quickly at things like this. Yes getting bowl eligible is a great accomplishment but let the season play out. It is not inconceivable that Rutgers loses out and finishes 6-7 as Rutgers is likely an underdog in the remaining games. Do you really need to jump and reward a guy for a losing season? He has 4 years left and he not going anywhere. I feel even if he has a breakout he not going to leave so there is no rush to lock him up. If he is 8-4 then yes I think it would be warranted but other than that anything 1 year extension.
Curious about how PSU is feeling about Franklin after to tOSU result? Read an article (forget which service, probably "The Athletic") and there were various tweets about this being PSU's best shot of beating tOSU and Michigan. Asking this because the bar has a different height at different programs.

Beat Iowa & Maryland, get to 8 wins then maybe this is a topic. Now, no way. Sounds like his agent is drumming this up ( with GS approval) and using Politi to get it out there.

Probably the same way Michigan fans felt about Harbaugh losing to the Buckeyes before the 2021 season seen him beat them

Patience. . Hasn't his wins come against backup freshman qbs, and teams without head coaches? Atleast beat Maryland

actually , if memory serves me correct, Politi might have got the idea from arguments here , before the season even started, about if Greg had a winning year would his contract be extended..
That might have been a question from a hater to a supporter talking about the upcoming (2023) season

I believe Schiano had one 11 win season, 2-9 win seasons and 2-8 win seasons before he left. Some people want to reward him for a six win season. We have to see at least one more season.

there won't be any contract extension this tear, but if RU keeps its winning ways in 2024 you can bet Hobbs will be thinking about starting a discussion before the price gets to high or has to match other offers .

You are confusing haters with renewing a contract before it’s time.

Ok, after 2024, that’s all we are saying. Renewing now doesn’t make sense,

Sounds fair,
Greg's first era seen him have to wait till after his fifth year ( first winning one) was complete just before RU played it's first bowl game under him for him to receive an extension

Many are not happy. It a game they could have won and people think Franklin will never win the big game. The Michigan will be huge. The hard thing is the Joe PA cult part of the fan base still thinks in 1986 and Penn State should be winning national championships every year. The truth be told Penn State has had it best 4 year run under Franklin in almost 30 years. They don't acknowledge that Joe let the program fall so far behind in things like facilities, donations and overall staffing. Then on top of that you had the loses of scholarships and money. So it has been a slow modernization and they are finally getting to the point where they should be competing better with the big two. It is concerning the lack of competitiveness in big games under Franklin.

I don't think he's a coach who will ever win it all for PSU but his resume' will likely look better when the playoff expands to 12. He would've made the playoffs 5 times in the 9 years of the CFP.

Steve was inspired by the question I asked during the live podcast and also the topic I raised this past summer on this board. Schiano is going to get his extension for his achievement and a job well done, 1 year ahead of schedule. He started at Rutgers when the stadium was empty. Now the stadium will be full for Ohio State. That alone justifies the increase and extension.

It is important to pay the market rate for valuable resources. Schiano has a unique set of skills that are more valuable to Rutgers than anyone else. He has had to work harder than other coaches because Rutgers lacks resources, most notably a state of the art Fieldhouse, which our peers already have. Very few coaches could have replicated what Schiano has achieved. Urban Meyer is one, but he’s not touching this job with a 100 foot pole, due to lack of resources.

Schiano will get his extension by the end of the year. It’s no longer a question of if. It’s a question of when.
Comical Not only does he not deserve an extension but Hobbs should be looking for his replacement. We beat no one if significance. In a horrible year for the big ten, D2school, and two teams not having head coaches we tripped into 6 wins. Worst offense in college football. Hobbs should be finding his replacement

This is the usual manic depression: elation after a win no matter who, doom and gloom after a loss. After the depressives vent the Schiano defenders will creep back in with their usual talking points. To my mind, the main issue here is that Schiano has yet to prove he can get past his ceiling--which is right about where the team currently is and where I think it's likely to remain. All the same weaknesses are present from v1.0 and the results on the field are similar.

I do. Is this even a real question
You know the haters just wait for any opening... and today was an opening.

Don't worry.. if we beat them the haters would either stay silent and wait for teh next opportunity or claim Iowa sucks and it was no big deal as they had no offense.
