This was not remotely going to happen even if Laviano had a bad game. Now that he played well it will take an injury for any Rettig PT.This is reality .Accept it.This is why I joined the Round Table....

RETTIG NOW
Does russo get here next season and if he does do u guys expect him to RS?
Why can't we see if we'd be better with Rettig?
Why can't we ever develop a backup QB?
Laviano had a good game, he's confident.. Playing Rettig should destroy Laviano's ego.. Right?
It is a strange universe we live in where decisions are made & players are banished in perpetuity .I said it after Laviano was named QB1 and i'll say it again. We will never see Rettig playing in a Scarlet Knights uniform ever again barring injury. As soon as you can accept this as a reality, life as a Rutgers fan will be a lot less stressful for you. Just let go. In my mind, Rettig already transferred.
Rettig will be our starter next season, after Flood is fired and a new, sane coach is in charge.I said it after Laviano was named QB1 and i'll say it again. Strong wishful thinking in this post.Rettig will be our starter next season, after Flood is fired and a new, sane coach is in charge.
You are correct that for the most part Laviano is playing well for a first time starter. The issue many are having is Rettig, if given an opportunity, could possibly be playing well also. The difference is the type of throws Cook was able to consistently complete despite tight coverage by RU's defensive backs which were the difference in the game. The announcer raved about Cook's great throws and catches against good coverage. Not only has Laviano not completed passes remotely of that caliber, he doesn't even attempt to complete any. In the 1st half against Norfolk, Rettig threw a perfectly placed pass to a tightly covered Patton which was very similar to the passes completed by Cook and other elite QB's. Many, including myself, believe if Rettig can bring that to the RU offense, combined with the talent level at receiver and running back, they could be very potent. Laviano is the safe choice and plays a safe style but doesn't it make sense to have tried the QB with the potential to lead a potent offense and then fall back to the safe QB if the first option struggles?Doesn't make any sense. Laviano is playing well, especially for someone in his first year as a starter.

Everyone seems to be forgetting about Dare...Is it not possible he wins the job over Rettig and Laviano next year? Last I heard he was looking pretty good.Strong wishful thinking in this post.
So you want to develop the backup at the expense of developing the guy who's currently the starter? That makes no sense. I would have liked to have seen Rettig play more, too, earlier, but if Laviano's now the starter, he needs the reps. Why can't we see if we'd be better with Rettig?

You do realize that a "starter" is only one play away from being out for the year, right? Whoever is the backup, must get reps whenever available. Last game that opportunity was not there. But, in other games they were, but he never saw the field. i.e., "putting all your eggs in one basket"So you want to develop the backup at the expense of developing the guy who's currently the starter? I agree. The kid didn't transfer to sit the bench. He could have done that at LSU. He went to Rutgers as he thought it was his path of least resistance to starting. He was wrong and will end up at some FCS program next year. You can't build a program on transfers. Sometimes they work out but most of the time they are busts.I said it after Laviano was named QB1 and i'll say it again. We see at least one bad qb-center exchange per game. Fumble inside the 10? Lucas said on radio there were others.Laviano is a safe choice with limited upside. Not to mention at least 1 bonehead play per game.
His throws deep to Caroo were slow hence why he had to wait and adjust. Late because Laviano Has to wind up and heave and is slow. H is a bit of a gamer but we needed to make the investment in rettig
I hope your right that he will get his turn, but under what circumstances? I don't see it.Rettig will eventually get his turn. When he has a bad game the same posters who want him will be calling for the next QB to come in.

We may never see what could happen with Rettig to Carroo. Which is what we need.

Stay classy Rutgers...stay classy!
Another difference between Cook and Laviano is one's a senior and the other is a sophomore who just played his fourth game as a starter. Also, Cook's receivers did a lot to help make Cook look good in that game. A few of the catches they made were on balls that could've been thrown better. You are correct that for the most part Laviano is playing well for a first time starter.
