RU, OSU, Temple to Hold Camp

Apparently, some blue feathers have been ruffled.
Michigan Football‏@michfootball1
Rutgers has a problem with Michigan and Harbaugh. They are picking a fight they don't want. #GoBlue

Agreed, these kids don't even know who he is. For the few that might know, it's doubtful they care.
Its not the kids, its the advisors (coaches) of the kids that recommend them to go to one camp or another.

Sucking Urban is worrisome. OSU should not be a partner with them. Ash should move away as OSU six like Michigan

I guess the Bosco and some other kids (N NJ Parochials) will be torn with Boston College at the Michigan camp at PC (Bosco , St Joes, and even SPP have sent many kids to BC).

So it's Michigan, Boston College, Maryland, Pitt, and Syracuse (all ACC except Michigan, lol) vs RU, OSU, and Temple .

As Maxwell Smart once said "Very Interesting".

Not really.

I said it during the Partridge to RU fall out. Hypocritical or not, the NJ parochial coaches hate Partridge.

The three that matter most weighed in.

From Campanile at BC:

"But I don't think Rutgers should let those (Michigan) guys come in here and have their way. I also think that any high school coach in New Jersey who lets their kid go to Paramus Catholic has to kind of re-think what they're doing. I'm glad that Rutgers is doing it; I'm glad that Ohio State is doing it. And I hope it's extremely successful.''

That's about all you need to know about how people feel about Paramus Catholic football.

I don't see the negative of having Urban there. We know he isn't going to negatively recruit against Chris Ash. (Granted he doesnt need to).

Check this out:

The coaches at three of New Jersey's perennial powers make no secret of their rivalry on the gridiron, but suddenly they're united for a cause:

Bergen Catholic's Nunzio Campanile, Don Bosco Prep's Greg Toal and St. Peter's Prep's Rich Hansen are supporting Rutgers.

Hours after Rutgers coach Chris Ash announced his program would be joining forces with the coaching staffs at Ohio State and Temple to hold a satellite camp for recruits on the same day (June 8) that Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh is hosting a camp 30 miles away at Paramus Catholic, the three rival coaches each told NJ Advance Media that they plan to encourage their players to attend the Rutgers camp at Fairleigh Dickinson in Madison.

I don't have a problem teaming up with Meyer and Rhule. OSU will get the ones they want most of the time anyway, and Rhule brings a lot of buzz to the camp. If this serves to trivialize Harbaugh's trip to a single school, so be it. This is a win/win to me.

Harbaugh will grab a few that he wants anyway, we all know this; it is the mystique of Michigan. But, if we can keep some home, this is a very smart move. Except for the players that want to play for Michigan or Harbaugh, would you rather go to Paramus Catholic's camp, or the one that has multiple coaches and staffs present. End of the day, those in the first group? We weren't gonna convince them anyway.

People do realize michigans camp at pc also had multiple schools like syracuse, boston college, joining them

And michigan is also hosting a camp in New Jersey the day before the pc camp at the hun school so if players wanted to attend the rutgers camp the day of pc they can just go to the other michigan camp the day before

I got the chills(in a good way) after reading that article......

There are different kinds of rivalries -
Some are stupid / ugly / disrespectful & in a lot of ways unprofessional
Some are intense but professional, ethical, and highly respectful
This is definitely not confined to sports - it happens in industry, academia, medicine, law, politics - basically everywhere.
It is not necessarily directly linked to "friendship"
- have heard more than once "He's my best friend - but a real ugly competitive a-hole" and for others - "We hardly know each other, but I respect the hell out of him"

Ash & Meyer appear to have a strong professional colleague vs professional colleague relationship - it will be building over the years.
There is Mentor / Protege stuff going on - and lots of mutual respect
Meyer wants to see Ash do well, get everything he has earned (except when they play OSU) and vice versa
Neither would go out of their way to deliberatively & gratuitously do something to inflict harm on the other's program - aggressively compete- hell yes ... cheap shots- no, no
These kinds of rivalries seem to last - they make for great competitions and often bring out the best in all participants.

What Harbaugh is pursuing is a somewhat childish, cartoon like approach that gets old in a hurry

Maryland as well is reported to be at the Michigan camp. But a lot of ACC teams as well also.

This is important. It's not just that Harbaugh and Michigan are coming to NJ that's a big deal. It's that they are bringing BC and Syracuse with them. If teaming up with OSU and Meyer helps take focus off that camp it's a no brainer and brilliant move.

How are FDU's facilities vs. PC? Distance could be a factor as to which players choose to attend which camp, along with cost.

Top recruits are going to get the headlines but the camps benefit the lower-profile players the most. It would then make sense to have a range of schools. The Michigan camp has a couple big public schools, Syracuse and two Catholic universities, one in the ACC (BC) and one at FCS (Villanova) along with a local school (Monmouth). That seems like a good range.

As of now, the Rutgers camp has a big name (OSU), Rutgers and Temple. It would seem to benefit the players coming that the camp should add a FCS program or two, along with a local DII program. If the goal of camps is to build relationships with high schools and identify players, it would make sense to have a well-attended camp that generates offers or concrete contacts for the athletes.

The goal of the camp is to send a message to Michigan that we take offense to his aggressive recruiting tactics. It is a shot across Michigan's bow that Harbaugh is dealing with a well-connected professional who learned to play the recruiting game from the very best (Meyer) and not some member of the Mickey Mouse Club.

My son attended the ODU/Penn State satellite camp last summer. He will do the same this summer with other B1G schools coming to our area. There were over 175 coaches that showed up for that one camp to see about 1100 kids. They were unprepared for the amount of kids that came on the day of the camp to sign up. In fact, they had to turn away several hundred kids.

I have no doubt that other smaller schools will be invited to attend the Rutgers camp. I'm sure when the kids begin registration, more information will be provided about what schools and coaches will be attending. As a matter of fact, we received a listing after we registered last year.

This is a great move, but it made me realize something.

There's some brilliant collusion going on, here. Urban Meyer is going to do everything in his power to help Chris Ash establish a solid record against UM. It's Pure Win for Ohio State. Pure. Win.

More than likely Urban is going to leave RU with his table scraps.

This is good for the kids who want to play college ball.

The top 35 recruits will need to pick a camp but for the others they can see where they fit best.

Camp 1 - Rutgers, Ohio St, and Temple
This is mostly for top 35 kids who will be 3 or more stars. The potential 2 star kids can be seen by temple or hope for a walk on role.

Camp 2 - Michigan, BC, Cuse, Monmouth, Maryland
This is for top 100 kids. Michigan will be looking at the top 20 NJ kids while Monmouth will take the under-recruited kids. With BC, Cuse, and Monmouth you may have a number of kids who grew up going to private schools and want to play ball at a private college (even as a walk on).

.

I'm thinking FDU's have to be somewhat better than PC's but, again, we're talking a 4-hour session, not a multi-day/overnight camp. Madison is 32-miles SW of Paramus AND both school are incredibly easy to reach as they sit within seconds of major highways with relatively easy access for most of the state to each.

Also note that we will be going to a camp at Ohio as well, There are a TON of talent at Ohio and they can't all go to OSU.

I'm so confused...is this one of those the enemy of my enemy thingy?

"The enemy of my enemy is my friend" I thought the same exact thing when I heard about this. This does nothing but help us especially with the support of the big three. I'm all for it. My kid will be there.

Where are getting this from? Do you think FDU (D3) is going to let them use their facilities and not participate? The FDU coaches are contacting a lot of kids and making sure they are going to this camp. It is by NO means only for top kids.

It is for all 9th - 12th grade. It is very important to have as many kids at this camp as possible. I'm confident it will be packed. Matter of fact when I signed up my son the wait online was over 15 minutes. If only the "top 35" kids were signing up I think it would have been a lot faster, no?

Penn State, in conjunction with Fordham, will be at a camp somewhere in North/Central Jersey the following weekend, June 15. Details still TBD.

The top 35 kids of the 2017 don't need the camp as much as younger guys and guys who are not that highly ranked.

HUH????

It's simply a brilliant strategy to hold it on neutral ground at Fairleigh Dickinson. More kids will be inclined to go to this camp than one held at Paramus Cath. Coaches will urge their kids to attend this camp instead of the other one held on that same day(they are known for stealing players). Now this is how you retaliate, you simply out thing your opponent. Simply brilliant.

The only issue is had Ash taken the invite to be part of the PC/Mich camp the kids would be exposed to 8 programs instead of 3. By holding it on the same day the kids at the Rutgers camp get exposure to only 3 programs. Seems like a disservice to most of the student athlete's. OSU and Michigan are going to get their 4 and 5 stars no matter how these camps go. To me its more about the 2 and 3 stars getting to camp in front of multiple schools for $30 or $40 bucks.
Coaches will urge their kids to attend the camp with fewer coaches? Those are coaches that do not have the student athletes best interests in mind.
