This kind of thing is routine. The union files a grievance on behalf of the professor wand allege that there was procedural error (not difficult for that to happen under Rutgers' complex rules) or that the denial was arbitrary or capricious, meaning that no reasonable person could have come to the same conclusion. The best she gets is reconsideration; the grievance won't give her reappointment.
