Ash is wrestling well. Port is a hammer but the meat grinder Ash has gone through should have hime ready. He will b game for tomorrow.

Michigan St. must of had a coach or wrestler step out of line. Their current team point(s) is -.5. Ha

Could AP be our 165 pounder next year? $$$$

AP has lost four of his last five matches in OT, with the lone win being a solid revenge win over Kelly.

That's my guess too. His too big and needs to move up to 165 to have any chance next year.

I would think 165 would be a better weight for him. He is tall enough. And he is not an over powering wrestler more of scrambler. hopefully that will eliminate his hard time with his weight cutting.

Now that I have been counseled by this board to temper my expectations, I was not at all disappointed in the results of Day 1. I had hopes for better, but no expectations of same.

Perrotti will need to get stronger to wrestle 165 but it may be a good move. Who'd go 157?

Paths to AA:

Ashnault should AA, as he needs to beat #2 Port to move to semis or win 1st wrestleback vs the winner from Thielke (WIS), 13 Cruz (LEH), Rodriquez (ILL) & 12 Ward (UNC).

Theobold has a good draw but would need a 2014 Perrotti like run. He wrestles Perez from Princeton who he beat 5-3, then the winner of 15 Clagon (Rider) vs 16 Racciato (Pitt) & then the loser of 4 Villalonga (Cornell) vs 13 Cobb (Penn).

Smith has toughest road vs 15 Larson (OU), then winner of 10 Walz (VT) vs Aiken-Phillips (Cornell) & then loser of 4 Marsden (OKST) vs 5 Medbery (WIS).

157= Juco transfer Richie Lewis

Will be interesting to see if former Toms River South wrestlers Clagon and Theobold meet to make round of 12.

Let's Go RU!

Ashnault vs. Port (Edinboro)

Common Opponents:
Ash beat Morales of WVU, 7-2. Port beat him twice, both by fall.
Ash lost to Steiber twice, 9-1 & 5-1. Port lost to him 6-3.

Theo vs. Perez (Princeton)

Common Opponents:
Theo beat Perez 5-3 this year.
Both lost to Arthur of Nebraska (Theo = 1-7 and by fall, Perez = by fall).
Theo lost to Ruggirello 2-5, while Perez beat him 7-2.

Smith vs. Larson (Oklahoma)

Common Opponents:
Smith lost to Krolls of Minnesota 6-5, while Larson beat him 7-3.
Both beat Silvis from Buffalo (Smith = 8-1, Larson = 11-5).

For the life of me, why wasn't David Terao, AMER, 39-5 ranked @ 125 at these championships?

Never mind, I see they never wrestled anybody, and when he did, he usually lost to top 20 guys.

Still, I always remember him being pretty talented, as he's showing.

Ashnault is the first RU wrestler to reach the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships since Mario Mason (149) and Scott Winston (165) did so in 2011 in Philadelphia, Pa. Ashnault will wrestle two-time All-American and No. 2-seeded Mitchell Port (Edinboro) Friday morning in the quarterfinals. Port is 35-1 entering the matchup.

A victory would make Ashnault the third semifinalist in program history. 1960 RU All-American Mike Leta, who finished third, advanced to the semis before falling, 3-1, to eventual champion Les Anderson (Iowa State). 1955 RU All-American George Mulligan lost a 10-5 match against Lehigh's Eddie Eichelberger before finishing fourth.

Ashnault Advances To Quarterfinals

Nice comeback by the Iowa kid in that first match on mat 5. I can't believe how easy it is to watch this on my iphone.

Port just too much for Ashnault. After about 2 mins or so, Ashnault started slowing down. Port definitely seems better conditioned.

Good match to build on. Port is a man child. That's what ash should look like when he is a senior. Needs to bounce back with a win next round to AA.

I think Ash gets Abidan in the Consys, he lost to him 5-2 at theBig10 tourny

AA was completely dominated after first period. Not quite ready for the very top echelon, but can still have a successful tourney and A A.

He was also very quick, fifth year senior, 2X AA and No. 2 seed, he very much looked the part
