SCARLET KNIGHT STATUE

ok good news we met with the artist and we will be able to accommodate a real plume and cape on game weekends. I like the idea of having different student groups conduct a robing ceremony on Friday Afternoons....now hopefully the cape and plume don't get stolen the first week.

That just opens up a whole new tradition - the Knights Guard - to protect the knight during game weekends.

That is were I was going with my suggestion for using a real plume.

Will there be a bronze plume the other 358 days a year when there's not a football game? I like the "caping" idea

Good question...

As I said earlier, our Knight has one with him all the time.

Well you can't probably have it both ways
And my limited research suggests that plumage was for special events ...
If we have to choose...just do the cape.

Plume needs to be there for a photo op in March, July and graduation but not just for game day.

Agreed. The plume has been a part of the knight since we had the cartoonish knight. I think its a must. You can cape the knight on gameday weekends.

ok I would like to hear additional thoughts on plume we could probably make it part of the statue and patina it scarlet.....thoughts? the design will go through a clay then wax stage so we can make changes. these types of projects usually take 12 months but we are hopeful to get to an unveiling for homecoming...does anyone know when homecoming is for 2016?

i think that can look nice with the plume painted. i mentioned it earlier but the plume and a prominent block R are the key for easily identifying it as the rutgers knight.

I dont think its been announced, but my guess is October 8th vs michigan

Would be nice if you could make it scarlet, but I think it's more important that it's there regardless of the color.

And IMO, I would rather see a Knight closer to a nickel colored finish than bronze.

I think the Scarlet Knight statue absolutely needs the the color scarlet on it ALL THE TIME, not just on game days. The Plume should be permanent. Rustic looking scarlet colored armor like on the game of 1869 statue might not be a bad idea or maybe just the breast plate in scarlet like our mascot.

Yes I like the idea of the scarlet patina.

I haven't heard of a firm date for Homecoming but I suspect if you reach out to Alumni Relations they would give you a quiet heads up on the date or those that are most likely (may not be final yet). I will try to get info as well.

Yup, needs red & R on chest, just like the 1869 statue.

I am a two time Rutgers Graduate and am rarely treated well by Alumni Relations..

Alumni relations and career services are both horrible and probably a significant reason alumni donations are so low.

Nickel is an entire different price point....I agree, even considered stainless..nickel and stainless require a different level of maintenance, one of the reasons many statue are bronze

Fair enough.

Figured there was a good reason why most are bronze.

Amazing isn't it? Alumni Relations is absolutely pathetic at the school; not only have they been indifferent towards me in the past, at times they have been out and out rude.
A Scarlet Knight statue is LONG overdue on campus and is one of the things I have most wanted to see at the school. It would seem to be a given, that you have a statue of your mascot on campus somewhere.

IMPORTANT -HELP WITH PLUME!!!!!
our artist would like to sketch and then create the wax mold from a plume we recommend. Anyone who has a good photo of the scarlet knights plume or any other plume you like please email it to me Cpaladino@Devco.org WE found some but not very satisfying

Didn't like the ones of the Knight already in the thread?

I need better photos . Going to replicate the plume of the knight in pictures
Looks like one of the Rivals members can get me a close up 360 view
I appreciate all the responses

Now that's damn good work by this board.

Really looking forward to this statue.
Me too.

Especially on the part of the base/plaque where I can point out Chris's name to my sons so I can tell them, "See that name right there...he made this happen."

No connection to alumni relations, but what kind of issues have you had with career services? I'm part of an advisory board for them.
I graduated in 2012 and never used them because I felt no need to as I was already going to grad school plus heard they were terrible from other students. However my girlfriend did. Basically they were useless. She made an appointment with them senior year because she was unsure whether to apply for jobs out of school or go to law school. They told her to Google templates for her resume. Obviously she already did all that. She just wanted advice from an actual person. Their only advice was to Google stuff. No advice on her career, no connections, nobody read her resume and advised her to modify anything. She got nothing out of it. They were more than useless.

Meanwhile she has since gone to law school at a private school and career services have been night and day. They return her emails within an hour. They edit her resume, give career advice, have connections, contact lawyers/judges for her. When they find out about things they email HER.

I can't speak for how it is now but from what I hear, it seems like the people working there aren't qualified to be giving career advice for college graduates.

We should start a separate thread on this because this topic deserves to be looked into and discussed much more.

Not to sound snarky...
Sounds more like an issue with Career Services than Alumni Relations...
Could you have the two departments mixed up?

-edit-
-My apologies- Looks like this was addressed on the other thread- That's what I get for reading oldest thread first.

I am looking forward to the statue!

Special thanks to Board member that supplied us with Scarlet Knight helmet for photgraping
so we can include the plume in the original design of the Scarlet Knight Statue that will guard the Yard....the board has been very helpful in the process I look forward to sharing the progress of the artist with the board and making sure you all are at the unvailing

I like Leonard's illustration the best. the hip armor looks a bit more masculine. Also, the helmet looks "correct" with a couple of eye slits and then the vertical slots on the lower half of visor. The clay mold just has a big cage up front-looks odd-my $.02

Looks Medieval (hopefully there will be an R on chest)

Agreed I would like to see a more "Knightier" looking face if possible.

Also agree with SF that the waistline in the illustration looks more masculine (and the waistline in the clay model looks feminine).

I don't know if it is too late, but if there is a shield, like in Leonard's illustration, can the Rutgers sunburst be the symbol on the shield.

I believe @Cofifa already said that the Rutgers will be the actual shield. Great look. http://www.rutgers.edu/about/rutgers-shield

I'm confident we'll be happy with the Knight once it's done.

You know what's funny?

This part I saw in your link on the Shield...

"The shield is divided into thirds, representing Rutgers’ deep connections to New Jersey’s three regions—north, central, and south..."

So while I agree with you we will be happy with the final result, somebody (if they read the fine print) will complain about the above.
