I believe @Cofifa already said that the Rutgers will be the actual shield. Great look. http://www.rutgers.edu/about/rutgers-shield
That works.
I'm confident we'll be happy with the Knight once it's done.
Are you new here?

If I knew how to post photos I would post the progress on the wax model that the artist is developing ... Shield looks great
@Cofifa Why isn't the Block R on the chest like it is on both mascots? I'd like to see the R there on the statue so that it's more accurate & recognizable. This is not the final pose as the shield will be held more forward . There is a large block letter R on the handle of the sword the plume is still not modeled on wax
The visor still looks wrong, and the waist/skirt/leggings still look too feminine. See Leonard's pictures earlier in this thread. https://rutgers.forums.rivals.com/threads/scarlet-knight-statue.22737/page-4#post-1673079
The block R is the most recognized logo of Rutgers & has been used since the 1800s, which is why it's on the 1869 Birthplace statue at the stadium. IMO, It would be a mistake to not prominently use it on this scarlet knight statue on the chest (or shield but you already have the new 250 shield there). As for mascots, we've had the R on the chest of both mascots for a while now. It would look better & be more recognizable with the R on the chest since it won't be on the shield. You can always change the shield angle/location to make the R more noticeable. I would hope that you'd at least try it since it's still in the wax development phase. You will not see it because the shield will obscure it
The current knight has it
Historically not a part of the knight armor
the statue is 8' tall and will be bolted at sidewalk level. Final position is not fixed but it will boarder the lawn on the edge of the sidewalk. This is great, great stuff !! I'm hoping there will be a huge block R somewhere on this statue. On the sword might be cool if its large enough.
I think RU does itself a huge disseverice having multiple logos such as the crest, and all the others they've had over the years and are still seen around campus on old signs.
How tall is this statue planned to be? And where will it be planted? In the middle of the new development, off the street? Or closer to the street?
there are no leggings its all armor I will re post the suit of armor we used as the modelThe visor still looks wrong, and the waist/skirt/leggings still look too feminine. well the shield has been a big topic of discussion. I will recomend that we flatten out the shieldYea honestly, if this is going to be THE knight for however many years and years to come, I think it pays to get the details right. Don't get me wrong, I think everyone is really appreciative of it and knows you guys and the artist are working hard. But it's true: The mask needs to be like the pictures people have posted already, the best one is the sketch from the link above to earlier in this thread, with the 2 eye slits and the bars below. The skirt and legs also are a little feminine. Also agree that the block R needs to be on the chest also, even if it's almost entirely blocked by the shield. And finally, the shield isn't correct, the top does not come to a point. Fix those things, and we'll be looking great!
The Block R was on the FB unis in the 1800s. I don't care if we didn't make it an official logo until Schiano. The "Block R" has not. A block style R has been a part of Rutgers for years, but the Block R as a primary logo is relatively new, I believe 2001.

From DEVCO FB...
That is the Knights plume and it will be scarlet
The shield and plume will be scarlet
It is a bronze statue
And that's enough IMO.The shield is the the University's new crest that celebrates the 250 the anniversary. The shield blocks the view of the chest. There will be a cape that will be put on the knight on game weekends.... student groups will be asked to participate in the robing ceremony the Robe will be adorned with the Block letter R.
I think most will agree that is the visor look we are looking for and are used to seeing....the visor is being tinkered with. i think part of the issue is the angle the photo was taken.
we not only gave them the armor we purchased as a model but we borrowed the head piece from the knight at the football games for the plume and he has the benefit of those photos
Well, if we're talking real knights, then we have bigger problems as none were scarlet. It's a mascot & both of ours have the R on the chest & 1 also has it on the shield. We've used the R in some form on mascots & athletics since the 1800s. No mascot or athletics program uses the 250 shield. If you show people the 250 shield & the R, they will know the R is Rutgers but most won't have a clue about the shield. Most people will have no clue what the statue is when they see people posting & sharing pics of it, but if it had a large R on it, then more people would be able to identify it with Rutgers. And that's enough IMO.
As I said earlier everybody will know it is the Scarlet Knight.
Find me a real looking knight with something like the Block R on it's chest and we can talk.
But we do need to come to an agreement on the visor. That does not work for a lot of us.
And they both look a little cartoonish. Since as you say, they are mascots.Well, if we're talking real knights, then we have bigger problems as none were scarlet.
