Schiano at USF would not be good for Rutgers recruiting IMO.

Holdout and get a Vandy or Northwestern gig then.

I get it. These guys want to coach. Look at Davis at FIU. But come on. RU to Tampa, to OSU to USF? Come on man.

Of course he will recruit NJ, but he would have to be an idiot if his main focus is not Florida. He still would be recruiting for a AAC school.
I believe Greg's family is still in Tampa, this would be perfect for him.

He'd hurt RUs Florida recruiting, but I don't see USF being an attraction for Jersey recruits. Not in the B1G or ACC and not on the same level academically.

Why would he hurt our recruiting in Florida? USF has already been focused on Florida recruiting.

Schiano at USF would be a helluva lot better than at a local option. USF does not have to recruit the NJ/NY metropolitan area. They have all of the talent they need within 3 hours of Tampa.

I just don't see Schiano's ego allowing him to take this job. Going from coaching the NFL team in Tampa to the 3rd most popular college team in the same demo.

if he still has a house in Tampa it makes sense. A few years of success at USF and then on to Miami or Florida when one of them has a vacancy.

To be successful at USF he would have to go 6-2 or 7-1 in conference each each with 9 to 10 overall wins.

The USF division has UCONN, ECU, Temple, UCF, and Cincy

This would be a good move for him. Three years doing well there and a bigger job might be calling for him.

One of the few jobs I really think would be a fit for Schiano. Wife Kristy is still likely down there in her beach house somewhere. Wouldn't be surprised.

I do think he could take a few recruits out of New Jersey per year (especially to the extent Ash doesn't build our program). Jersey students and players love to head down south and USF is a good school (back in my college days the New School was highly rated. My little cousin is a senior? pre-med student at USF now.

He wouldn't but our fans think he is super recruiter and every stop is a worst case scenario

Perhaps the perception that GS is a super recruiter has something to do with the results or lack thereof by other Rutgers head football coaches. You wanna try to sell Piscataway to a kid with offers from 'Bama, Ohio State, or Miami ?

They have to come up with 3 million per for Schiano but I think it would be a home run hire for USF. He would kill it there recruiting and be up for a real big job if he wants. Key is they have to pay to get a quality coach like Schiano.

Maybe they can structure it so he takes a % of the gate like he did at Rutgers

how many of those kids actually worked out here? Davis. amazing how many of our 4 stars with these supposed huge offers never panned out. See his last class. Also, ignore the fact his best classes were after the Pitt self destruction. Pitt and UNC owned him in recruiting NJ. Finally, the idea he is going to come hard in NJ while in FLorida is silly. Almost as silly as thinking we are losing kids to USF

How much is he making now? Seems like a good situation and $2M would be a wise move for him.

better there at USF,then if greg showed up at Temple or PSU..locally for RU recruiting...

Nothing against Schiano. I appreciated his efforts here (made us respectable and has a great Defensive mind), but I also knew that he hit his ceiling here. Don't you think his time has come and gone. Top programs do not want him as Head Coach or he would already have a Head Coaching position. Instead he replaced Ash's vacant position at Ohio State. Now that's a step down to me. Who cares if he goes to USF. He would be in the AAC which is less than he started with to begin with at RU in the Big East. Which if I remember correctly, is a Conference he never won outright!

Perfect fit for him.

Given our current staffs limited focus on Florida (which is a mistake imo), limited impact on us.

Would he recruit NJ? Of course. But, so does Harbaugh and Meyer. So, GS would be the least of our problems.

Well if you say so, then it must be correct. Come on now, the guy did a great job building RU from the ashes. Put RU in position to win the conference on several occasions. Even when Louisville and WVU were top 10 in the entire country. Think about that. Drastically raised the talent level, public perception, and marketing of RU. Home run for USF and he would be a very strong recruiter in a fertile area. Good fit.

As one of my buds put it to me the other day : Maybe Schiano didn't so much hit HIS ceiling as Rutgers' ceiling. There are people I know who think Rutgers football peaked with Greg Schiano
and it's downhill from there. Of course I disagree....but I kinda see their point.

This hits the nail on the head. Aside from a dozen elite NJ kids, of which USF is going to get none, the equivalent of NJ HSers are a dime a dozen in Florida. He doesn't need to come north.

What's going to be awkward however is renting a Stadium from the Glazers. That and that the local populace (Bucs fans) aren't too enamored with him.

When I say "hit his Ceiling" I mean we were not going to get any further than we did with him. In 2007 we went 7-5 regular season with 13 players that eventually went to the pro's and a sh$t schedule. It was time for him to go to Tampa Bay and those results were less than pleasing also. No big name school has hired him since. So I don't feel I'm the only one seeing this.

You think our ceiling is getting blown out by UCONN in his last game?

I'd like to see the news that someone is whipping out their checkbook and paying this guy $2-3 million a year. Right now, he is a 600k assistant with a one year contract ending. Maybe there is a big demand for his services. Maybe not. $$$$

Until Jeff Hafley got here he was just above average...Pitt was snagging to many of our top targets...he was good but not great...he was good with hiring the right assistants...

If it were not for Schiano and his efforts on and off the field at RU we would not be in the BIG. You don't know what could have happened if he had the BIG to sell to NJ recruits and South Floridians. When he started at Rutgers he had in facilities and infrastructure the equivalent of what the men's basketball coach has. He had nothing but a vision and Mulcahy and he built the program. Before Schiano got here we were pathetic kind of like we are now. I remember because I was at Rutgers as a student. They should build a statue of that dude in front of the stadium. How some of us forget.
