Sharks??? I thought LIU were the Blackbirds

Again....this had NOTHING to do with Libs, Cons, Dems, Repubs, Independents, etc. 2 campuses merged sports teams and the school decided to start fresh with a new nickname and mascot.

Why is that so hard to understand?
it's not. My initial understanding came from reading the first part of the article that didn't explain such. It was a bad job stoking the fire by the writer. Now just having fun with the situation. I do seriously like the name Black Pioneers though. (however better suited for a school out west). How bout the Lindenbergs or the Spirits? The Grumman? The Montauk? The Expressway?

I'm not offended. I'll be dead in 15-20 years and you LIBs can enjoy the fracking mess you've created for YOUR off spring (birthed if possible or bought). Mine will be just fine. (although those two corrected me for telling them I was wrong for telling them their mom met a woman from India in the pool the other day and said I should have just said woman. I told them next time I'll just skip thru Person, or Human, and just go direct to Object).

Personally the "Black Pioneers" would have been unique and cool and I would have had ZERO issue with honoring them that must have existed.
Triggered by mascots. Sounds like a lib.

A blackbird is literally just a type of bird. There is nothing non-PC about a blackbird and there was nothing PC about them changing the name.

Some of you are either
(a) pretty dumb
(b) literally thing anything with the word black in it is racial somehow?

Don’t get me started on the gay pride of lions lmao

When Post and LIU merged they dropped both nicknames (Pioneers and Blackbirds) and came up with a new one. That was the official reason.

The rush to be offended by PC-ism is just as lame as being overly PC.
“the school’s president, Kimberly Cline, to address their concerns. But she told them they were getting rid of Blackbirds because they didn’t want to diminish Post, and that the university also heard from people that the Blackbird was an offensive racist mascot, a source, who attended the meeting, told The Post’s Zach Braziller. “ If she wanted to make the Post students not feel diminished why not change the name of the school? The mascot is why they are going to feel slighted? And they had to pay a marketing firm to come up with the names? So utterly ridiculous.

In defense of LIU would you want to be named after pie filling? Imagine the Ragin’ Rhubarbs, the Fighting Pecans, or the Flying Shoo-Flies… 😉
