Shoes retained. Knight hired.

Great job be AD Hobbs in getting the money to bring in a great staff. A former HC and two former Associate Head Coaches in their prior jobs.

Been confident for quite awhile on doing whatever was possible to assemble the best staff and find a way to maintain Shoes in some way. Glad to hear that come out now, holding onto this possibility for another few days would not have been fun.

I hope this puts to rest the thoughts that certain coaches don't have value here. And Knight is a flat out class act connection that gets it.

Could not have a better set up for 2017-18 recruiting.

Still gotta make the right roster moves to ensure that at least two or more open spots are there for the 2017 recruiting season that starts this summer. Does Pikiell take 2 grad transfers? Maybe hold a spot for next year? Without those moves there are no open spots for the fall early signing period.

Only one spot if you assume Sanders leaves after next year or two if Freeman does not get a redshirt.

Wow, landing Knight AND retaining Shoes...

Hard to find anything to complain about in the early goings of Pikiell's tenure.

Very promising. Both Hobbs and pikiell deserve credit for making this happen. Can't recall a better staff on paper.

Very Nice .......................................TOLD YOU!!!! Great Staff as good as others nationally and in BIG!

You were the guy that wanted to rain on our parade. Who knows what you actually did try to tell us with your ridiculous back and forth posts. You should go give SHU some advice. We finally have a competent AD. We don't need your advice anymore. Thanks.

Seems a little harsh. Just enjoy the good news.

Now, If we can keep our roster intact
And sign thiam...we will have the nucleus to build from...that can be 16-15 team next year if held intact and healthy.

And what do you think recruiting will do if this staff comes in and has a winning record in year one?

I mentioned to someone about where could this roster be for year 1 & someone I trust 100% confirmed that the condition or strength of the roster is pretty much not where it needs to be. The new S&C coach has to be Kenny Parker 2.0, just to give RU a chance next year. If the players buy in and put in the work, lift, run and train, then the win-loss record has a chance to improve towards .500....will depend on that and what grad transfers arrive.

Great first 30 -90 days was critical to RU and we passed the test so far

The first big move in helping the RAC become "THE RAC" again.

Knight coming aboard is great news. It signifies RU has an AD finally willing to pony up the money to spend in all ways to help the program and it gives RU its best and probably for the first time since the 70s, an assistant coaching staff that can compete with what our peers have. This is a significant development in Rutgers basketball. Welcome aboard Brandin!

Great, experienced, proven, winners and northeast recruiters. Maybe be the best coaching staff in RU History.

We knew from the onset what Coach Pikeill had for assistants. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe it is $800,000. Why are people giving praise to Hobbs now? We new this weeks ago.

Great job, Coach. You have recruited a great staff now recruit some great players. Keep up the good work.

So, it seems like we have 6 guys in the mix...assuming the assistants are: Hobbs, Knight, Young, Advisors are ?...Shoes, Rickard and then didn't he bring his DOBO too?

Building blocks are in place. Next year is a wash- maybe we can get to 10-12 wins. Hopefully, by year three we have a Big Ten roster.

That's a really good job by the school.

Now they have to keep this thing together for a few years so things can come together.

Absolutely. It finally feels like RU is serious about competing with it peers. Not trying to do it on the cheap. Still need the infrastructure but we now have the right salesmen. I'd hope that we have success and someone like Knight becomes a head guy somewhere in a few years which is a healthy situation. Next season will be tough but the hope for the future is recruiting.

It doesn't take long for certain RU fans to acknowledge our past failures.

But as former HC Gary Waters used to say " It all starts now"
Hard for me to characterize him as an RU fan. Excited about the Bball program going forward. We may not yet have the physical infrastructure we need, but we are assembling the coaching infrastructure.

Very encouraging news. Looks like the best staff we've had on paper in a long time. Agree with the poster above. If we can keep them together for a few years, get some players to develop/mature together for a few years maybe we can finally get this ball rolling.

Theoretical question...and i don't know the answer....

Is strength and conditioning more a function of expectations placed from the top AND the character of the players in the program more than the person paid to strengthen and condition.

Great news. Does anyone think we could still get a player or two that could pay dividends next season? I know it's all about the future and I'm totally cool with that, but it would be nice to hope for some respectability next season too.

nukem is right on target about lfhall and caliknight ,you hit the nail on it's head--all this is only happening because there is FINALLY confidence in our AD

Its been a long time since I have been excited about Rutgers basketball. I was a junior there when we went to the FF, thought we had a winner when Wenzel was hired, then thought for sure we would become a powerhouse when we finally got into the Big East. My enthusiasm has slowly eroded over the many years since that last NCAA appearance. It sure feels different this time. I only wish I was younger since this time I really feel this program will explode, not this year or next, but soon enough. Pat Hobbs may be the best thing to ever happen to RU athletics. For whatever reason and for whatever motivation, Barchi deserves credit for hiring him. I also don't believe our assistant coach dollar pool is 800k, its gotta be more than that to have acquired this staff of coaches. Go RU!!

It is a function of everything you said. Take away any of expectations, player character and trainer, and you will a less than steller result.

Nukem and ru66 (who has always attacked me in harsh ways) I said nothing harsh or wrong. Just my thoughts. I even said great two pickups and HC and Associate HC. Now I say its a good staff and get attacked by you. Oh well just another day for me. Glad those on this board who truly understand are not angry for no reason. I will depart giving my input in many ways you have no idea about. Again, congrats to all of you true fans of your fine university.

And Hobbs. That guy is getting it done on multiple levels. Amazing the difference in a competent executive being hired.
amazing things are going on now Hermann is gone..not a shock..

WOW this chapter appears to have turned out to have gone quite well!
Roughly 3 weeks ago there were great highs and lows when the rumors swirled that Rutgers was going to hire 'a recognizable name' in Donyell Marshall as an assistant coach.... euphoria at the idea - then anguish when the idea had the air let out of it.
Now it appears that everyone comes out a winner -

LFBall,
You didn't say anything wrong. Some board members too sensitive or can't comprehend.

this has been in the works for awhile....more than one person has the information reported, perhaps someone got scooped and doesn't like it and RU cannot confirm until they control the message and are the only ones capable of scheduling a press conference.
