Yes, because football in the trenches is a game of leverage. Tall players have a tougher time getting lower due to having longer torsos and legs in comparison to their 6'1 counterparts, so putting a 6'6 guy in the middle generally doesn't help the run defense too well, unless the guy really plays with top-flight technique.

I love this move. Seymour is a monster, and that should translate well to RT.
In less than a week he's cracked the two deep.

The O line rotation is probably only 7 deep, if one goes down, then they just shift players around. 7 deep rotation probably:
Cole, Miller , Nelson, Muller, Denman, then Heeman and Applefield.
I doubt, but could be wrong, any other OL play meaningful minutes, barring injuries.
I think the plan is to play Seymour at RT, while Heeman is the utility guy. . . able to play either tackle spot.

Coach Ash has been quite parsimonious with regards to praise.
Just because he thinks he has the talent to play on Sundays 4 years from now, doesn't mean he is ready to play on Saturday's this year. Doesn't mean he won't get some time late in a game or on the FG unit, but don't rush things.
This. Have no clue how El Curioso is coming up with the stuff he's posting. Pure assumption based on a few words stated by Ash. Not fair to either Ash nor Seymour IMHO. Obviously there was need for a change - possibly due to the loss of Shumack from the OL, but also due to maybe what they felt was a lack of talent in the 2-deep on that side of the ball, as well.- and Seymour was the logical choice, for multiple reasons, to make the move. He's young, however, so we'll probably watch him develop over the next couple of seasons and, hopefully, see him in the NFL one day, but I don't think anything in Ash's comments allude to him being the starter anytime soon.

LOL..sorry, I appreciate the kids commitment to our program and wish him success at his next stop..but (and I say this hoping to not offend anyone based solely on a football perspective), this is the exact type of roster turnover that we need. Kid was not a big ten OL.
I'm not surprised since it seems just about every player from the Midwest eventually leaves the program at some point.

Short term. Actually, Heeman and Denman are still battling for the starting RT spot.
We've had less than 10 guys from the midwest and Texas in the last 10 years or so. Can't really include Zach Allen and Dacoven Bailey because they just got here, but other than them we've had 5 that I can think of. Lister (TX) and Shutack (IL) transferred, Behr (MN) and Gio (MI) are still here (despite not playing a snap) and Dallas Hendrikson (IA) turned out pretty well for us.

Kamaal Seymour was placed on the D-line out of necessity by the former staff...Seymour knew during his recruitment the O-line is where he might end up at...a
prototypical left tackle and for now fits at RT...there are some who analyze this move as a depth problem and that is certainly possible...athletically... as is stated by our new staff ...Seymour is capable of being the RT in the pinch and perhaps even the starter later on during the season...I remember a true frosh lineman out of Red Bank New Jersey back in early 2000's Rob Pettiti... he accepted a scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh...I'm not sure if Shea or Schiano even attempted to recruit him?... though never expected to play a significant role that season Pettiti would go on to start for 4 years at left tackle and be named All Big East in 2003...in 2004 he earned 2nd team All American honors ...was drafted in 2005 by Dallas...so a player like Seymour may not be the desperate move some think...I believe Seymour is bigger , stronger, tougher , more athletic, more mature than Shutack ...to make this switch it's not beyond the possibility the staff actually knows what it is doing...from the visual eye and what " reliable " people , those actually are attached to Rutgers have said...former players...they're on the right track....in talent evaluations.Go Rutgers!!!!!
