Basketball St. John's outlasts No. 25 Rutgers Basketball in scrimmage

Some expressed concerns whether Derkack and Hayes would be successful with a step up in competition. So far looks good.
the kind of intensity and smarts that Derkack shows translates to any level. Hayes is just a pure shooter

Half: Rutgers 44, St. John's 36.

Ace Bailey (12 points on 4/10 shooting) and Dylan Harper (10 points on 4/8) lead the way for the Scarlet Knights.

Jordan Derkack (4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, 1 steal) had a standout first half, particularly on the defensive end. PJ Hayes (10 points on 3/3 shooting) showed the scoring ability - and the emotion - that he adds.

Scarlet Knights took control with a 22-0 run in which they held St. John's scoreless for 6 minutes and 21 seconds, forcing 5 turnovers and 6 consecutive missed shots.

Rutgers shooting 50% (16/32) and forced SJU to commit a turnover on 25.7% of its possessions (9/35).

Hayes showing a much more well rounded game than just a pure shooter. He actually hasn't showcased his shooting at all really with just the lucky banked 3. It's everything else which has been so impressive. Excellent sign
