THE STAR LEDGER

Hi, first time poster here. Lapsed RU fan. Attended in late 90s. Wife competed in a varsity sport at RU. I played rugby for several seasons. Two years ago when doing the taxes she gave me a receipt for an R Fund donation. I yelled "WTF!" and said I'm ok with a donation to RU athletics but earmark it to your former team. I attended the Boston College football game in September with my family, first RU game I've seen in years, and out of extreme boredom watched Saturday's Maryland game. Then I found this site and signed up.

When I bought the New York Post yesterday, the paper with the biggest and best sports section of any US newspaper today, I was surprised the Rutgers-Maryland game didn't get a mention, not even a sentence. Look, I know the New York market focuses on pro sports more than other B1G markets, and maybe more than any US market. Still, the Rutgers athletics media department is doing a lousy job if they aren't getting exposure in New York media when at the same time hyping up to whoever will listen how great it is that Rutgers is in the New York market.

I subscribe to nj.com and view their Rutgers sports coverage to be better than most of their work.
Did you see a mention of any of yesterday's college football games? It may be that, as with the Star-Ledger, the paper went to bed too early to include any coverage.

Is there a reason that you typed everything IN CAPS??

The rutgers game was over by 330 pm
I know that; it's still possible the deadline for copy was earlier than that. The early editions of Sunday papers close very early. That's why I asked whether there were any stories about Saturday afternoon games. If there weren't, then the problem is almost certainly the deadline, not animosity toward Rutgers.

It was never worth 3.5 cents!
Bite your tongue! When I subscribed, I sat down and did the crossword puzzle every single day. 3.5 cent puzzle resulting in mental stimulation and improved brain function would be a bargain. Now that I havent subscribed in many years and havent done the crosswords, I cant remember shit!

SO I JUST HAPPENED TO PICK UP A COPY OF TODAYS SUNDAY STAR LEDGER. 11/27/2022. WHY I DONT KNOW, I CANCELLED MY SUBSCRIPTION THREE YEARS AGO. WELL NOW I KNOW WHY. THEY HAD NO MENTION OF THE OUTCOME OR FINAL SCORE OF YESTERDAYS GAME. THEY DID HAVE A PREVIEW OF THE GAME AND STAFF PICS. DO THEY NOT KNOW THE GAME WAS PLAYED YESTERDAY? THAT IS A JOKE, THEY SHOULD BE EMBARRASSED FOR PUBLISHING THAT. NEVER AGAIN.
here you go

Used to deliver the Evening News back in 1960. Weekly I believe was $0.35. Sunday $0.17, raised to $0.19 during my employ. Hurt my pocketbook, because people who gave me a quarter and let me keep the change didn’t up the tip when the price increased
I did as well in ‘70 and ‘71. $.60 for the week, but by that time they did not publish a Sunday edition. Made a whopping $.03 a paper!

I used to deliver the Reporter Dispatch in Westchester County back in my youth.
Rode that bike for many miles to earn those nickels at the end of the week.

The Star Ledger has laid off 94% of their employees in the last 15 years as people get their news from other sources online.

They publish syndicated columns they purchase from other sources around the country.

Their coverage of New Jersey sports should be a priority, but it is not.

Last night the Devils (the only NJ professional sports team left in NJ) won their 19th game and the Star Ledger had no coverage of the game in their print newspaper.

The State of New Jersey should have a statewide newspaper that covers New Jersey first and other news 2nd.

This state has no network affiliates, no sports radio and a newspaper that does not make NJ sports and news a priority. A total disgrace.
