Tom Savage demoted; Watson named Texans starter

3rd year in NFL ( 2015 on IRL) makes Savage one of the very few College QBs that have made and stayed on a NFL team .
Considering the route he took to become a 4th round draft choice and stick, being a back-up is still far better than most who have played as a College QB at any school have done.

Hopefully he can stick around a few years and bank some money . When does that NFL pension kick in?

TS is one of the best 64-70 individuals in his profession. He's making $690k this year. Yeah, sure, people like to rip on him but he's doing just fine. He set a very high goal of making it to the NFL and while perhaps he could've done it if he stayed here the choices he made still got him to the NFL. I hold nothing against him and still wish him the best.

"The National Football League's pension plan provides a benefit credit to its players for each season that they play. Players are vested in the plan after they have played at least three credited seasons.

The NFL's current pension plan applies to players who have had at least one credited season since 1993. Each season credit that a player earns adds a certain amount to his eventual monthly pension payment. Players are credited for a full season if they are on the active roster, injured reserve or physically unable to perform (PUP) list for at least three games during the regular season. Players can begin receiving this monthly pension when they reach age 55.

The league also offers an annuity program to players who have completed at least four credited seasons. The contribution amount varies by season. Players can begin receiving this benefit at age 35 if they have been out of the league for at least five years and can opt for monthly or annual payments.

The NFL also offers a plan similar to a 401(k). The Second Career Savings Plan can match up to double the amount of player contributions, with an annual maximum of $24,000 to $28,000 depending on the calendar year. Players can begin participating in the savings plan after their second credited season."

I will ALWAYS root for Tom. Sorry he ever left...and wish the road back to Rutgers wasn't blocked- that was IMO a colossal $^%*# up.

Maybe he can add holder or even long snapper to his repertoire.. he is a pretty big guy.. I'd imagine a team can use a long snapper who might function as an emergency 3rd string QB in a pinch...

Everyone knew he wasn't the future there but it sucks he couldn't hold on for 6 or 7 weeks. Figure it's a contract year for him. Some decent starts would have landed him big money....now he will always be viewed as a backup

He had his chance against Jacksonville of all teams and made them look like world beaters.
