Rutgers' time of possession was 38 min vs 22 min for UW.

Is this correct?

If correct then OLine did its job.

If we eliminate some critical mistakes, we can keep it very close or even beat ranked teams.

On the negative, it could also mean that we don't have playmakers on offense, defense, and special teams.

What's your explanation?

Kill's game plan intentionally reduced our offensive tempo in an effort to keep the Washington offense off the field. It worked beautifully, notwithstanding the hysterical criticism of some guys sitting behind me who started to hyperventilate every time the play clock went below 5 seconds.

Those are the guy you can tell before the game, that our intention will be to keep their O off the field, who simply won't care. They think we're not "trying to win" or whatever and just don't get it. A couple of my fellow season ticket holders are included in this group SMDH!

Kill did a great job controlling the ball. Washington only got 10 possessions in this game, compared to 14 last year.

Just looking at the first half.... last year Washington had 8 possessions before halftime (and scored on 6 of them), and this year just 5 (and scored on 2).

The game plan was perfect they just got all the bounces.

Ball downed at the one or two twice
Punt returner drops ball comes right back to him
QB sack fumble OLineman right there to fall on it
Two interceptions

They simply played a clean game with the help of all the bounces. It happens, it's football. However, going by the law of averages this really shouldn't have been so one sided, but it was. We needed some breaks to win this one and we didn't get any.

No need to run the play clock down coming out of a change of possession as it cost RU a time out, in the first half, that could have been used at the end of the half. Other than that, trying to slow the game down was a great game plan against a team that had more experienced talent.

Aside from the score, the team stats for this game were incredibly similar to the stats last year

In 2015 Rutgers had 33 minutes possession, 304 yards of total offense, 21 first downs and 13 points

In 2016, 38, 309, 19 and 14

Washington had 27, 380, 17 and 48 in 2015 and 22, 368, 17 and 30 in 2016

The big difference in the two games is Rutgers defense limited Washingtons big plays this year...unfortunately the offense doesn't appear to have been much better statistically...

Doesn't take context into account.

Last year the game was over early, this year we scored a TD on our first drive.

Last year Washington scored on big plays thus limiting their time of possession. This year we controlled the clock by design. Though it did limit our yardage output.

I don't know how incredibly similar that is, even from a straight stats perspective. Washington had the ball for 19% fewer minutes, and managed 38% fewer points.

It also doesn't take into account that Washington put in their backups in the 3rd quarter last year, after they scored 48 points... this year, they managed just 20 pts through three quarters and had their starters in until the end.

But you have to admit.. as a Rutgers fan.. that we have had an inordinate amount of delay of game penalties in recent years. And, though actually a plus for the gameday coaching... we called a timeout from the sideline at the last second to avoid a delay of game early in the game.

Hell.. didn't we have a delay of game after taking a time-out in recent years?

So.. there is plenty reason to believe that a clock inside 5 seconds means we are going to have a penalty/wasted play.

I do think it shows some mental toughness on the part of Bolin and the center. Bolin seems aware of the clock.. and thats a good thing.
