Warning to students heading to the alley this morning

Agree 100%.

Screw this up and you only have yourselves to blame.

but you know it only takes 1% of the 5000 to do it. Early years when I was OTB we could bring beer INTO the stadium in plastic jugs until that 1 drunk kid tried (and failed) to jump the gap.

Okay.

Other than game day most people only deal with these types when they hear the phrase, "All rise..." And if you're hearing that as a Rutgers student you have a LOT more to be concerned about than your next tailgate.

Again, you have much more to worry with the real guys on a daily basis as opposed to the JV.

I agree and understand.

Seems like the policy is Tailgate NIMBY -
people want the students - but not in their tailgate lot.

Middlesex Sheriffs dept does not belong at tailgate.

People keep saying the ticket is $200 or $300. What happens is, kids go to Piscataway municipal court and get a lecture from the prosecutor who tells them that if they fight the ticket and lose, not only do they get a fine, but they lose driver's license and have a criminal record. They also get told that they basically have no chance of winning. They are offered a plea bargain of pleading guilty to a municipal violation with no criminal record, no loss of license but fine + court costs totaling $700 or so. After that speech, virtually every kid pleads guilty and begs for time to pay the fine.
It is a big money maker for Piscataway. I do not think RU or anyone else gets a piece of the action. So Piscataway PD has plenty of incentive to write tix. Not sure why sheriff officers are so ticket happy.

I did see one ticket issued to a kid in the blue lot on Saturday. He was with a large group of young people drinking beer. No loud music, no fighting. I believe everyone in group was ID'd and he was the lone under 21 so he was nailed. So they are still patrolling blue and targeting those who are younger even though there never seem to be any issues in blue anymore

I took a walk up and checked at the Alley around 11 AM. Kids were pouring in still and the scene was typical college bedlam. Looked like fun. There was not much of a police presence. It did not look like many of the kids entering the area at that point were g beer. If your under 21 and get caught carrying its your own fault. I don't think you can expect law enforcement types to ignore this. So kids, find some over 21 to carry your beer.
The only stupidity I noticed was a small group playing a drinking game on the grass slope before the entrance - the one where they chug a beer from a whiffle ball bat then spin around like idiots. The game wasn't the problem, it where they were playing it - in plain sight of anyone approaching the area. Move it towards the back where you are less likely to be eyeballed by an officer.

Requiring IDs is racist. I've heard that from the voting ID argument

Is that from the same group who contend that the cops are always right and if they are hassling someone than that someone deserves to be hassled?

back in topic.
County Sherrifs in NJ are not police. They run the jail and secure the courthouse. They have no business in the role of event security at our football games. They obviously have a very different view of their role than we do.
There are lots of police who can replace them and would be happy for the paycheck.

I think all of us in this thread agree with this. And I think there are some in Rutgers Athletics who feel the same way.

Yet every year they are still here. Is John Lynch still around?
