Weather for MSU @ RU: some light showers likely for tailgates (<0.1") and steadier rain for the game (0.1-0.25")

@LeapinLou - need to plan for a TV tailgate.
We may have to put off the decision on when to arrive until Thursday or Friday. But stay home and watch on TV? Not an option.

The weather was picture perfect last year for every tailgate. The laws of equilibrium have kicked in this year.

I didn't mean stay home and watch it on TV - I meant be prepared to watch it on TV from the parking lot. :)

Right now both the GFS and Euro are showing rain moving in between 11AM and noon, with the heaviest rain towards game end. if this forecast holds (unlikely, 5 days out) tailgate would be dry but the game would be a soaker.

Wow, been out all day in your neck of the woods (disc golf tourney at Thompson Grove Park in Manalapan) and the model shifts with today's 12Z suite are significant and in a positive direction for the tailgates, especially, and even the game, as every model (the Euro, the CMC and the UK), except for the GFS, has no rain in P'way before 1-2 pm (although it's on our doorstep before then), and the GFS has light rain starting around noon. And all of the models "only" have about 0.1-0.2" of rain through about 4-5 pm.

Having said that, it's just one model cycle, which is why I don't think the NWS is biting yet on delaying the onset of steady precip until the early afternoon (they don't like ping-ponging forecasts with every model suite). Below is what they had to say about an hour ago and if we go by the NBM, that is showing 1/2"-1" of rain between 8 am and 8 pm Saturday, which would suck. If the next model cycle sticks with the idea of a later onset of precip, i.e., maybe not much before noon, then that starts to become a more reasonable solution. In fact Lee Goldberg just said that it's possible we'll be able to salvage Saturday morning as being dry. We'll see.

LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...
Guidance is still in agreement that the primary surface low and cold front will not reach
us until Saturday. So for now, the heaviest of precipitation should
take place on Saturday where likely PoPs (>55%) have been kept in
place. Beyond this point, both deterministic and ensemble guidance
are simply all over the place, with all sorts of different
solutions. Thus, have opted to stay close to the NBM, with rain
chances lingering into Sunday and Monday. Long story short, the
weekend continues to look wet.

Looks like you may be in the clear if the "latest" forecast immediately above holds.

I may be.
But if my 7yo doesn't make the team he won't be.
"Remember you wanted to go to Rutgers-VT?? You should have been practicing!! Chooses have consequences."

In the Ash era, that consequence would have been a reward, not a punishment. Took our oldest to the Wisconsin game Saturday, and had to explain that it would not be as horrific during the Ash years!

What’s with the pop up ads now in every thread? 😡
I recall an email from Ritchie that gave us a free trial to eliminate them. I think you can subscribe to stop them but I recall and early October end date.

Looking worse today. 80% chance of rain starting after 8am. Going to be a wet tailgate and game. Still a ways till Saturday but it's trending the wrong way.

I already subscribe. Is that a secret subscription lol
I think that is on top of the regular premium subscription. My renewal just happened and I took a quick look at the rivals billing site but it was very limited in what you can see (if I recall correctly). I need to review that again.

I don’t think so
I think in this case it may. Here’s why: Michigan State is a quarterback disaster right now. They are probably going to be rotating at least two, if not three, guys at the position on Saturday. Our D-line/LB’s are just getting better every game. I would be blitzing, stunting, hurrying, every freaking play, witch, in bad weather, Has to be a plus for us in my humble opinion.

Yes, but wouldn't you rather have a full house on a beautiful day?
I can't see wishing for bad weather

My cousin bought a handful of tix and his buddies are bailing already due to the forecast , the tailgate was their main draw
He’s going to list them on Stubhub if the forecast doesn’t improve by tomorrow
lol "by tomorrow..." ...obviously someone we'd rather not have at the game. It's only TUESDAY for crying out loud.

Latest Euro has a chance of drizzle around 8AM but the bulk of the precip doesn't move in until 3PM.

The GFS is about 3 hours faster, with light but steady rain starting around 9AM and getting heavier through the day.

I'm gonna continue to do my "Slow Down" Rain Dance (made infamous by absolutely nobody before/but me).
