Nine former University of Minnesota football players are suing the school over its handling of a 2016 sexual assault investigation.

According to Maura Lerner of the Star Tribune, the players allege that the university is guilty of racial and gender discrimination and that it "willfully and maliciously" turned the players into scapegoats.

In 2016, a female student reported she had been raped by then-Minnesota football players Ray Buford, Carlton Djam, Seth Green, KiAnte Hardin, Dior Johnson, Tamarion Johnson, Kobe McCrary, Antonio Shenault, Mark Williams and Antoine Winfield Jr.

Here's what you're not getting, even though those players were suspended they were still winning without them. How important could those 5 players have been if that's the case. Yes a mess for the school but not for the football program.

not to change the suspended players topic but maybe HOBBS could use this same script...

Minnesota has fired embattled football coach Tracy Claeys after meetings with school officials, the school announced Tuesday.

Claeys met only with athletic director Mark Coyle on Tuesday, but Coyle had the full support of the board of trustees and university president Eric Kaler, a school source said.

Coyle said in a statement that he made the decision to "address challenges in recruiting, ticket sales and the culture of the program. We need strong leadership to take Gopher football to the next level and address these challenges.''

"Academically the team was doing well. We finished 9-4. But if I could show you all the emails I got after the Wisconsin game,'' Coyle said of the 31-17 loss in Madison to end the season. "That's the great thing about our fans, you hear from them. Moving forward, there's no reason we can't compete at a high level academically, athletically and socially, through all 25 programs, through all 700 student-athletes.''

Sure he could and then pay the man his money. Claeys and his whole staff cost Minnesota 5 million

Thanks I wasn't familiar with everything but I thought you were the poster who went into detail about how much it actually affected them.

its still a mess for football if you have to recruit with that without a doubt,it was national news and remains a legal issue today in 2018 as lawsuit was entered in june of 2018.

Actually listen to his fanbase? That would definitely be a step in the right direction. However, I think our cries and pleas are going to fall on def ears all do to the all mighty dollar. Buyouts just too high for a school only receiving less than a bit share. Hobbs hands are going to be tied on this one. The original Ash contract sealed that fate.(extension for each year of sanctions)

Just as a side note, Tracy Claeys seems to be doing a nice job early on at WSU taking over after Grinch there. He was a good DC at Minnesota too. Looks like Leach made a good hire picking him up. Not sure he was coaching last year. He makes slightly over 600K there.
