Here is the reality on "running an offense ".....

Because it's not really helpful if the guards can't defend and Harper missed parts of 5 B1G games.

My comment is asking what offense or plays can be run over 30 to 35 games, if 3 of the primary guards play an average of almost 20 minutes per game. Is there an offense where the guards are not high volume 3 point shooters or playmakers??

We have 3 guards who can play very good defense on the ball in JWill, JMike and Derkack and they have a combined 112 3 point attempts in 25 games...

I have 31 made 3s in 25 games from 3 of the 5 primary guards, all who have to play because there has to be defense player as well.......what offense or system should be run for this??.....thats an average of just over 1 made 3 per game. Other backcourt are averaging 3 to 4 per game from the same position.

Does HC Pike want to run an offense that has the backcourt making 3-4 3s per game?
I would argue that isn't a high priority for his offense.

You seem to be assuming Derkack, JWill and Davis are holding back the "ideal HC Pike offense" with their lack of shooting ability.

That's the wrong assumption.
I would argue they actually fit the "HC Pike offense" (unfortunately) and aren't holding it back at all. They are doing exactly what HC Pike wants - prioritizing drives to the basket and creating their own shot at the rim.
It isnt a priority to move off ball and work for an open 3.

If getting 3-4 3s from your guards - you wouldn't recruit those 3.

Would Marylan or Wisconsin ever recruit sub 25% 3pt shooters as transfers?

I don't even disagree with your main point - we do need better, more complete guards. You just have a habit of torturing data until it shows what you want, which undermines your argument.
The data is just what it is...how else should I show it?? Do you think it is dramatically better if I exclude the 5 easy games ....every team has easy or difficult OOC matchups.

Do you think Acuff has played significantly more minutes than the other 4 guards (Harper etc).....he has and has 27 3s....the trio of JMike,Derkack and JWill combined for 31 in with 43 more attempts.....but all 3 are much better on defense.

Pike Enthusiasts

The hypothetical is that it would. That's my whole point. All of these losses occured mostly in the offseason (and to some extent due to injuries). I'm sure an elite gameday coach could get a little bit more out of the same roster but there are people in here claiming we'd have 20 wins (already, pre Iowa!) with exactly the same roster.

That doesn't mean it's not Pike's fault it just means it's not mainly about errors that Pike is making now but rather errors that were made long ago the effects of which do not become clear until the games are played.
Half agree.

Shel: it’s not an Xs and Os failure due to coach knowledge deficit and ineptitude like some allege. He knows the game as much as any other coach.

By65: Instead, Pike’s too soft on the players. He lets them all be selfish chuckers. No accountability or shitty play guardrails. And not just this year. Players don’t learn because the coach doesn’t care.

A top tier coach wouldn’t allow that and we’d still have a shot at the NCAAs if Pappy Pike wasn’t running things.

Always a congratulatory pat on the ass when he takes players out. Rah rah rah.

No. 12 Rutgers wrestling wrapped up Big Ten Conference action with Michigan State on Friday

If this is the case, where we are losing recruits for being in the b10 and using the excuse that the b10 grind is the reason our wrestlers regressed then idk why we were even originally celebrating the move from EIWA to b10…

Yara and Bulsak went from diff conference to b10 and they seemed to do fine..
I don't think every kid has this mindset, it's just what I was told went into his decision, that all B1G teams were out. They felt the rigors of the B1G would be too much for Mehki's body and as we can see the injuries started to mount even in a lesser conference. My friend would have no reason to lie or makeup stories to me.

Why not just count the # of made threes per game period?

I think your broader point is good.
Because it's not really helpful if the guards can't defend and Harper missed parts of 5 B1G games.

Rotation going forward - play for next year

I could argue that the returning team although less skilled, play Pike style ball. They’ll get better at D. Somerville is the one I’d question most and can see leaving. Offense is the problem. We desperately need 2 senior starting scoring guards to transfer in.
Who's going to design an offense that will maximize the talents of these high scoring transfers?

OT: Your stories of a brush with famous people.

Story of a brush with famous people. List yours if you'd like. My neighbor owned a restuarant in Manhattan called The Madison and he got tickets to The Diamond Club at Shea Stadium and he asked if I'd like to go and help with his then 3 young kids. You had to take a private elevator up and just before the door closed Bob Murphy the voice of my baseball youth got on. He was so nice. It was amazing to hear his voice in person. My other brush with famous people was at Resorts Casino in AC, back when it was the only Casino with a license. The Honeymooners were filming a reunion show early 70's and Jackie Gleason was playing Baccarat behind a velvet rope and any were standing around watching him. We decided to take the elevator back up to our room and when it opened Art Carney was standing there. He must have seen the look on my face, pressed the button and went back up, lol. Just remembered after reading a post below. My sons, wife and I met The Rock before he was a big name, my sons were into the wrestling and believe it or not he was promoting an event at The Mid-State Mall in East Brunswick. Very friendly and signed a couple of items for them, for free. Talked with Roy Campanella as a 9 year old All Star for Bloomfield, NJ, where, I can't remember. I remember him being so soft spoken and not bitter by the accident that crippled him. A very humble classy man.

Here is the reality on "running an offense ".....

They played the bulk of the minutes 2 years ago, the only other player who played reasonable minutes beyond Spencer and Mulcahy was Simpson. Unless you count Jalen Miller.

The defense was very high level 2 years ago, but we also finished games with point totals at 45 or in the 50s, hoping to hold teams under 60 or 65 points. Then the fans complained we didn't have enough shooters, when in reality, we just didn't have complete guards who can do everything (Geo Baker, Jacob Young prototypes).

I don't even disagree with your main point - we do need better, more complete guards. You just have a habit of torturing data until it shows what you want, which undermines your argument.

Here is the reality on "running an offense ".....

(1) threes that are made by players who don’t play a lot of minutes are still worth 3 points - excluding Hayes’ threes for example makes no sense

(2) threes that are made by players not listed as “G” are still worth three points - excluding Bailey for example is insane

Rutgers is not good from three but the data here is tortured in order to make it look worse than it is
The numbers are not better anyway you look at RUs 5th guard to Iowa, Maryland or Wisconsin.....and most schools play 3 guards while MSU and UCLA have a more traditional SF and PF....
