OT: How hard is it to get into Rutgers these days?

Considering I haven't applied to college in 17 years at this point, how hard is it to get into RU these days?

I have a family member who's a junior in high school who wants to go to RU. Ideally he wants to major in finance at Rutgers business school.

He's has a 1230 SAT, 3.6 GPA, also a 3-sport athlete who will be captain of both his football and baseball team senior year. Can probably play FCS ball but really wants to focus on business school and internships in the summer while in college. He is also a member of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) and involved in business related clubs within his high school. Do athletic and club related things even matter when applying to college any more?

OT: Cooking up some LoBro!

So when ShopRite has london broil on sale in the summer, if I can beat bac, RU4Real and RU#'s to the store, I'll usually pick up a few good size pieces, wrap them and throw them in the deep freeze. They work great in the crockpot: cut them into cubes (easier when frozen), add in sliced carrots and cubed potatoes, cream of mushroom soup, dried onion soup mix, a couple cloves of garlic, and let that slow cook for 8 hours.

“That’s all I kept hearing Ace Bailey say tonight. ‘We want it more,’” senior forward Juwan Gary said postgame. “That hurt as a player. I know no team wants it more than my guys, for sure. But they proved it today.”

RAPID REACTION - Nebraska

1. This was the best game we played all year, probably in two years. We were down 72-67 but then went on a 14-4 run and took an 81-76 lead. We almost lost the game because we missed 5 straight FTs, but then Ace hits 2 big ones to put us up 83-79.

2. Pike gets a lot of criticism for poor inbound plays, but the two inbound plays in the final 20 seconds were elite, leading to the Ace FTs and the Grant dunk. Game sealing plays.

3. Ace and Dylan continue to amaze. Ace 24 pts, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks. Dylan 21 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists. They took control in the second half like stars should. And they executed in crunch time like veterans.

4. Rutgers 12-29 on threes. All huge shots. Best we’ve shot threes since I can remember.

5. HUMONGOUS contributions from the two-headed monster of Dylan Grant and Zach Martini. They combined for 26 points and 5 rebounds, shooting a combined 11-13 (4-5 on threes). Pike has figured out a way to put both of these players in a position to succeed.

6. Also big game from Ogbole, with 2 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 assists. On a night when Sommerville played like a freshman, Manny came up big.

7. We almost lost the game at the FT line, only shooting 7-14, including going 0-5 down the stretch until Ace sealed the game with 2 FTs on a 1-on-1 opportunity.

8. This is our first Quad 1 win, and boy was that a big one. I’m not getting my hopes up that we can get back into the bubble conversation, but IF IF IF we continue to play like we have the last two games,….

9. We stopped Nebraska’s 20-game home winning streak. This is a good team that is ELITE at home, so this is a high quality win.

10. One final point. LET’S FVCKING GO!!!!

OT: Update on SoCal Weather

Since the LA wildfire thread got locked, figured folks might still be interested in the short and long range weather forecasts for that area. Unfortunately, there is extreme fire danger for today through Wednesday with wind gusts of 20-40 mph at the lower elevations and 50-70 mph in the mountains, which combined with very dry fuels, very low humidity and ongoing wildfires means we could see continued growth in these wildfires and potentially new fires if people are not careful. It is worth noting that these winds, while extremely dangerous given the ongoing wildfires, are a decent bit lower than the 80-100 mph wind gusts that were observed with the initial wildfires last week, so hopefully the fire spread rates will not be as insane as they were.

In the longer term, unfortunately, neither the GFS nor the Euro shows any rain for SoCal for the next 14 days with the Euro showing perhaps some rain by Day 15, but that's a longshot at this point. On the other hand, wind forecasts look more reasonable after tomorrow and no obvious major Santa Ana windstorms are on the horizon for the next 5-6 days, but winds are difficult to forecast accurately beyond that; humidity will also rise some over the next few days, which will be helpful.

Hopefully after tomorrow the worst of the conditions will be over (and hopefully no more major Santa Ana winds) and recovery can begin for the tens of thousands of people who have been impacted so seriously by this tragedy. Let's try to keep this thread on point, if possible.
