5* PG chooses Vandy over Bluebloods....take note for reason...

Not everyone sees New Brunswick or Piscataway as simliar to Nashville, but the point is taken. Some families really do want their kids where they can watch them play, and perhaps are recent strides will convince parents of our potential before the kids are convinced. It just might help.

Coaches often say, "Recruit the parents."

5 Star Darius Garland chose Vandy over UCLA; a school across the country and surrounded by Lavar Ball, Indiana; a program in the gutter, and Kentucky who already has 5 Star point guard commit (and Montez Mathis’ AAU teammate) Immanuel Quickely.

Not too big of a stretch. Good for him.

And then there are some coaches like Louisville that say "Pay the parents so the kid can stay eligible and then he can claim that he knew nothing about it". A/K/A the Sgt. Schultz defense.

Vandy made the NCAA's last year no ?

On top of that drop dead gorgeous school with great academics and a rabid fan base.

Maybe the most interesting place to see a game in the country.

5* PG Darius Garland chose Vandy over Kentucky; UCLA and Indiana.

The reason: His family wanted him to stay home.

Take note RU BB and especially RU FB......It does happen and It will happen with us soon!
My daughter went to Vanderbilt. Excellent school in a very nice city with very fine restaurants , entertainment etc. And Vandy has been consistently good in basketball over the years. Good choice for the recruit.

It was not that simple.

Bryce Drew has known Garland since the kid was in the fourth grade and has a great relationship with the family. Also two of Garland's best friends committed to the Vandy football team.

There were several things working in Vandy's favor, yet an hour before he announced the top recruiting reporter at 247, who also lives in Nashville, had Garland crystal balled to Indiana.

if RU can win a few conference games and start to make the NIT tournament then we should start to get the 4 star top 15 NJ kids. Then we will win a few more and get the top 10 kids.

The high end recruit of today wants to know what you can do to get me to the League ?

Couldn't care less about the NIT if in fact he even knows what it is.

Vandy has about the coolest basketball arena in the world. Went there over the summer. Very nice campus, but the Ivy League schools are prettier. Nashville is an awesome town though. Very sprawling unlike a lot of cities outside the northeast. Good school

Vandy just got a commitment from a second 5* - Simi Shittu.

One comes and they follow.

Good things are ahead for us...:)

It will happen!

Prepare yourself for the "How is Vanderbilt doing it" narrative to start.

But to your point, if you land an elite point guard it helps you land other guys

I could see a "big time" NJ bb player staying home, more so than with the football program....no knock on our fb program, but the staff we have in basketball right now
is a really good one, top notch, so I can see it happening sooner
