Ash has been pretty willing to try other options in game. We've seen Allen and Oden in multiple games. We've seen a little of Gio.

But how much 1st team practice time are these guys gettings?

Cause it sounds like, Laviano is getting the large majority of rep's.

Which is confusing given they clearly don't see Laviano as either the long term option, or even a full time short term option.

The issue is the limited practice time you're allowed. For better or worse if Laviano is the starter you need to give him the majority of reps. That leaves little time for anyone else.

Sure Laviano started the last game, but he played less then half.

If these other guys are getting into the game, then I would think getting them some 1st team reps would be helpful.

Whoever the #2 is does get some reps but likely not a whole lot.

Except no team goes into practice with the mindset that they're planning on pulling their starter on Saturday. The hope is that if they execute their game plan, nobody else will be needed. And for them to executive, the starters need as many reps as possible. The backups get a few to be ready in case a guy goes down and they're needed.

Laviano has been the starter for 1.5 years . Giving him more practice time has not and will not help him. Just give him a few snaps to loosen up and work in someone else.

Much of 1st team snaps are about installing the game plan for the upcoming week. It wouldn't make any sense for your starting QB to just loosen up during the week.

Buts its been the same game plan for each game.
handoff up the middle for a yard or 2 is 75% of this offense. What exactly are they installing each week. ?

But the reality for Rutgers this season is we go to a backup quite often.

Even the New Mexico game. We were winning the game, Laviano was not in full struggle mode at that moment, and we go to Allen.

We went to Allen for a series to calm Laviano down. Other than that, excluding the OSU and UM blowouts, Oden went in with a situational running package against Iowa and Gio and Oden got garbage time reps against Howard. It's been Laviano the rest of the time. He needs the reps to get ready for the game. End of story.

And the other 25 % is quick passes into the flat....where the ball is never thrown with acceptable velocity and is sure to arrive just slightly ahead of the DB.

Yeah not really.

I'll tell you this much, when we did switch QBs in the 3rd
quarter, it was like someone hit fast forward on the DVR.
decisions, the checking out the defense, the qb running,
the speed of the thrown ball all increased immensely.

I need to see more of Gio, but if he is even a tiny big good you have to question what the staff was thinking/seeing.
