One wiry, quick and strong as shit.
The other with a plethora of shoulder and head fakes with a great pivot foot.
Neither one could sniff an non awkward looking elbow stop and pop or decent looking shot facing the basket all night.
Remarkable

Neither are consistently effective at driving the lane. Caleb has an average handle and PM just isn't quick enough against certain match-ups.

They need to be posting up and playing inside out. Have Cliff at 12-15 feet where he can hit a jumper. Paul has great footwork. Caleb great athleticism.

EJ used to do it at 6'1".

One is a pass first distributor and the other thinks he is a 3 point spot up shooter. I agree with you. This game was not lost because of the last second chippies. But because many of our players do not take the open options when they are afforded and rely on 13 foot fall away jumpers late in the shot clock.

Mulcahy was limited by a couple things. One, the SHU defense was good at staying home and not buying his fakes. Two, the RU offense wasn't doing anything off the ball to get themselves open for a pass.
Agree there was very little off ball motion. Also Mulcahy was limited because we were trying to run the offense through him while backing in from 18 feet from the corner. That set needs to retired. You are cutting off 75% of the court initiating the offense from there

I don't understand how so many fans of basketball can see these issues and understand things we do well and things we don't. Yet our coaching staff over the years can't.
What happened to Paul taking a 3 when there? He was getting pretty decent at it. What happened to the ball and player movement that looked so great early games (yeah I know the teams are different but when you just dribble and dribble you aren't even trying).
Taking Cliff totally out of his game. @Caliknight comment last night about NBA tryouts was spot on IMHO. Pike needs to get them to play their game and stop this experiment.

because the things that worked against the sisters of the poor do not work vs a good defensive team. Ohio State isnt a good defensive team. Miami just okay. SHU gameplan was perfect and it was their only chance to win the game. RU proved early that they werent going to be able to have success and Cliff going out was a crucial blow to sustain success in the half. That Pike didnt make any real adjustments was disappointing

Even with Cliff in we were not able to have any success just that little run at the end of the first half; he is getting to be a real problem he has not basketball sense, court awareness ie many times he is not ready for passes has absolutely the worst hands don't even understand at his heght and wingspan he blocks so few shots!! I said in another thread many times when the ball goes inside to him it is like going into a black hole; He is getting eaten up on defense and on the boards so unfortunately he is not the answer and I even see some regression in him this year especially too the fact that he thinks he is a 3 point shooter too; I think he has only made 1 on the year

I thought we were onto something with that run...and even though Cliff had 2 fouls, Pike gambled with Cliff but to me, you let Cliff play the rest of that half, we were having success BECAUSE of Cliff, why take him out..that last possession of the half with Paul was infuriatingly bad and we almost gave up a 3 on the other end with no time left.

Paul's decision making and execution last night was horrific, and for a SENIOR LEADER he should know better. He constantly dribbles himself into a trap, then tries to make a heroic pass through 2 or more defenders. And then, a self-pass off the backboard?!!?!?!? Paul are you kidding me? What did he think, that he was Vince Carter in the slam dunk contest? Really really bad. I was hoping for more Simpson in the second half to give us a boost of energy because it was a bad night for Paul.

Simpson executed a perfect stop & pop in a previous game. That stood out to me because I hardly ever see any guys on the team do it. I think his potential as a scorer is high, but not in a game like yesterday for a frosh. He will develop a great repertoire as he gains experience. Right now, Paul's moves are honed on the playground. He'll take his man in and do those moves. That's just different from Simpson's groove. Caleb's defensive skills greatly exceed his offensive capabilities, and that is ok since he is the best at what he does. I do like him for those outside shoots when he is wide open. The biggest problem with the last two games is that a couple more shots didn't fall. Just that turns those games into wins.

Looked to me, like Paul was trying not to use the left arm last night (passing, dribbling, driving) or do so as little as possible. Def hurt his game IMHO.

I think everyone was just way too pumped up for this game with adrenalin and sometimes it impacts play. what is important is what happens going forward and not looking back at this game. Lots of games to play and prove what this team is made of. I like the future.

Strongly agree. He needs to get into the flow of the game.

Alternatively, we came off a big win and a big robbery on the road and either thought we could half ass it or just mentally couldn’t get into it. Seton hall came to play and that defense was great.

Was going to post something similar. Lot of basketball guys point out our shortcomings & how they can be corrected. How many coaches do we have-- Pike & 4 or 5 assistants? Can't these guys straighten things out with regard to both individual & team play?

I know Simpson didn't look good in there, but would've liked to see him get a little bit more run to see if the dimension he brings (when under control) could've cracked the SHU defense when the old man game of Paul & to a lesser extent Caleb & Cam was yielding terrible possessions
