Conference Tournaments Discussion Thread

typical bac--you know he considers himself the "ultimate" bball expert--he's not

I fight with BAC on his bracketology stuff but he knows his stuff as well as anybody. He knows hoops. No reason to rip/question him. Just a difference of opinion. You should at the very least respect his opinion.

he should offer his opinion instead of doing drive bys

Bruce Weber looks awfully good to Illinois fans these days, they've done absolutely nothing but underachieve since he wasn't doing enough winning for the Illinois....now, it's an afterthought except for Antigua and Brad Underwood combing the terrain, just looking to accumulate talent.

We had a get together with the Illinois alumni a few weeks ago to watch our game that we lost in OT. One of them remarked, rather wistfully, that their 2 best coaches in recent memory are in Kansas: Self and Weber.

I wouldnt call this year underacheiving, very young team, the schedule was brutal....so schedule cupcakes and they are 14-18 similar to RU/PSU. I think they will be a force in league for sure next year. Already showed that by beating MSU and Maryland. I think they too sort of hit a wall like RU and didnt play well down the stretch or as good as they were playing earlier. I see a big fight between RU, PSU and Illinois for positioning next season

still when you consider what Illinois once was and now basically their level of play has fallen to RU's level the past couple of seasons, yeah Bruce Weber sounds good. Groce was just the wrong hire for them and then the year he could have had him dancing they lost to a bad Rutgers team with a bid on the line.

Iowa back on track? Iowa/Michigan was great earlier this year

its interesting how fortunes can change in a snap of the finger in a week. Nebraska was downtrodden after losing to Michigan by alot and then now in quarters. Iowa who has been putrid for weeks got an impressive win and have to feel confident that they match up well with Michigan and with a game under their belt will not be tight

Illinois is the vogue pick for most improved record next year, and I'm inclined to agree. Maybe we'll have an answer for Giorgi next year.

Yes, and we saw it last year with RU making a fan-base-invigorating run at MSG after finishing the regular season with 10 losses in 11 games. I always remember this because when I think back to the 1st round game vs Minnesota...….. I have no recollection because I was so checked out that I forgot they were playing and only saw the score later. Like... it's conference tournament week, it wasn't difficult to guess when the next game was. The next night I was glued to the TV and the night after, I would have been at the Garden if not for the storm.

Iowa is maybe not as good as they looked in the non-con but they're much better than they were playing the last few weeks. My only theory for Nebraska -- I mean Palmer is very good but he's not a 1st team all conference guy -- is that young teams don't know what to do with their desperation minimal energy consumption defense. My ref theory exists too but I don't think that's why they're winning.

yes....59-51 seemingly in control all game long up a few possession and then couldnt do anything right the last 4 minutes and it went to overtime.

I think Minny wasnt that great either so I think there was a thinking there was a chance, it wasnt that much of an upset since they were 4-14.

Indy was 16-14 so not a vintage team. With the Indy game, RU was absolute terrible the first 10 minutes. I think they were down 17-3 and 24-8 or something ugly like that and the started to rally the last part of the half and then somehow the lead was 29-28. Second half was a total slugfest..tourney type atmosphere

I think Maryland is really a flawed team, alot of talent but wrong mindset, going to see their matchup in the NCAA tourney because if they get a 7 seed, they can easily get knocked off by a 10 like Utah State or UCF

What is interesting is that Indiana,Penn State and Illinois were supposed to be the hot teams going into the B1G Tournament and they all loss.It comes comes down to match ups, when the games are played and which team has the go to scorers.

its Seton Hall's tourney to lose.
The school in South Orange somehow finds a way to be relevant in the Big East and to receive NCAA bids in a regular fashion. Rutgers fans are still waiting for a tiny bit of success like a winning season.Long suffering fans just shake their heads and kick the can down the road to the next season.

So is there any chance Myles Powell goes pro after this season?

MSU -11
WISC -8
PUR -9 1/2
Michigan -7 1/2

big boys have arrived in Chicago

OSU +475
NEbby +305
Minny +375
Iowa +290

I'd take OSU +11
WISC -8 ***** take it to the bank
Minny +9 1/2
Michigan -7 1/2

VCU was startig to pull away w this game. Marcus Evans just tore up something in his leg on a steal/layup. Got bumped from behind. Could be a bubble stealer

Now that the B1G tournament has moved into the quarters, the attendance is really good. It appears as if the United Center is pretty full as I watch the Ohio State/Michigan State game.

Rhode Island - VCU is a good game. David cox head coach at URI. Up 8 5 minutes to go. VCU lost star player to injury

Not seeing that-----both Marquette and Nova are better than they are.

Better doesnt mean playing better

Going to start WW3......

Izzo is a jerk and should not be allowed to scream in the faces of his players. I know yelling at a person is no where near slapping someone in the face, but I consider both abuse. I am very uncomfortable watching Izzo.

I'd rather have a coach hurl a basketball at my son in practice then to have a coach scream in his face in front of millions for making a mistake.
