Diamond officially to NC State

Arguably the biggest transfer to ever leave under CVS (maybe since...Jasmine Dixon? But she stayed at RU for like 2min before transferring back home to UCLA)

Not really impressed with her choice, but good luck. Still say something very, very fishy is goin on. Sigh.

This one REALLY hurts! Just feels like,...the worst thing that could happen, happened. Not knowing her reason makes it even harder to come to grips with. Of course, I wish her the best, but it is surprising to me just how much this one is affecting me. It HURTS!!

+1 Painful.

However...

--NC State did come in second to Louisville for the 20-21 ACC regular season

--and then beat them to win the ACC Tourny.

--Then they got to the sweet sixteen in the NCAAs and lost to Indiana by 3 points.

--Their pre-covid 2019-2020 home attendance was over twice our 2,000 average per game.

--Wes Moore has taken NC State to two NITs and six NCAA conferences in his 8 years as head coach there.

While, at RU, with how few minutes the other freshman got to play in 20-21, and so much of our offense now gone, and a head coach without a contract and reaching the end of her career, and next year looking like the start of another total rebuilding, well...

With all the top teams just shopping like crazy in the portal and for HS recruits, its hard to watch them just stacking up for next year. Most are keeping their star graduating seniors to boot.

I just hope the rest of the team is happy to be here and ready to step up to the challenge. Our young core of players have a great opportunity to play lots of minutes and get lots of valuable experience in a P5 conference at a great school with top notch facilities. If I'm in the portal, I'm looking into RU.

Also,.......I have a good feeling that A. Sadibe is going to be a major addition to our team. K. Sanderlin, of course will be big with the loss of our two best guards (three if you count Arella's occasional guard duty).

I'll wish Diamond success academically and wish that she will be able to use her college education to make a successful life for herself , along with hoping the rest of her basketball career is injury free.
But as far as playing well , I'll let Wolfpack fans wish that for her.

Major loss for RU. We lose two top rated guards in 1 day. This one hurts....

There will be a LOT of holes to fill next season. If the contract situation with CVS isn't resolved very very soon -- one way or the other -- I don't see how RU leverages the portal to fill all the roster spots. There's only one new recruit coming in, right?

Were the Wolfpack one of her Top choices when she was in high school?

I believe it was between RU and South Carolina. She reportedly chose RU for CVS and to be close to Philly so her family could come to games.

Interesting choice given Raleigh is not nearby and everyone returns. Plus they add another talented guard (All Frosh SEC) via the transfer portal. As another poster mentioned, they have a strong fan base with an excellent coach and will certainly be top 10 team next year. The ACC isn't a very deep conference, so NC State should be well-positioned for success going forward.

Maybe having less pressure to be 'the one' and a better team dynamic / coaching style for her. We'll never know.....

Two, one freshman and one juco transfer, for a roster of eleven.

I don’t think DJ would shrink away from being the “one”. She left for other reasons in my humble opinion but I doubt we will ever know.

NC State was one of her choices from the get go, forgot about that.
"Diamond Johnson announcing her commitment on 11/16 at 7:30.
BC, NC State, Rutgers, South Carolina, and UVA her final 5. She is a 5* recruit out of Philly."
