Down 8 With 1:24 Left And People Leaving!

The students rocked, but the regular crowd was HORRIBLE! TERRIBLE!! We played #1 team in B1G and #3 team in the country within single digits the ENTIRE game and the whole lower level did not stand on Defense ONCE!! I don’t understand. “Beat someone first” well we could win these games if the arena was crazy from start to finish.

they saw Corey's shot to get it to 6?

Seriously...you're 100% right. HAD he made it that's a 6 pt game there.

I kept saying this to myself tonight, why the hell are these supposed big time fans sitting on their hands. My solution, give the one side of the lower seats to the students.

Oh, god. This again. Clueless.

Don't remember that, what years ?
back in the Wenzel years...those were season tickets for students who paid...dont remember if they took up the whole section or just half

Plus they were bench seats like behind the baskets and used to hold more then now.

Installing the seatback chairs also reduced the seating capacity of the RAC.

It was half. From half court behind the scorer’s table to the end of Rutgers bench. Those days are over and they are not going to evict the season ticket holders that sit there now who are also the ones supporting the program financially. There would be a revolt. And those fans are also the most loyal and much more likely to show up for a noon game against Cupcake U. than students or flamethrowers in the cheap seats.

I agree with the OP for two reasons.

1. Clap it up for your team at the end of the game in appreciation for the performance. We just hung with a top 5 team until 5 minutes left. Our defense was amazing.

2. Chances are you will sit in some traffic regardless. Most people have work tomorrow but the game was over just after 9pm. Stay for the alma mater.

Let's give students all those seats since for the last 25 years the student section looked like last night about a dozen times. If they bring it for NJIT we may start to build something.

To add to this I hate seeing green in the 100 sections. If you are not going to show up to games, just let the students sit there. We had enough green in 200s section, but the comfy seats should never go to the opposing teams fans.

Great job by the students again, bad job by the alum again.

Hate losing, but another enjoyable game to watch and get into.

Once the crowd filled in the green in the 100s was not as bad as I thought it was at the start. I should know better because the opposing fans are always the first ones to arrive at the arena and it always looks worse pre tip-off. Also playing a tight game also helps neutralize the effect of interlopers.

It’s plenty loud when you have a full and engaged student section.

It looked terrible on tv

You could hear the students getting loud and sections showing on tv sitting on their asses like watching a dance recital. If you are too old to stand and yell go sit somewhere else.
Think of it this way, if you bring a kid and the kid is not embarrassed by you, you are not doing your job as a fan there.

There were many seats for the students behind the RU bench when Wenzel was coach but never behind the visiting bench. I had seats behind the visiting bench with my son for many years and no students ever sat in those seats. The first few rows behind the visitors always went to the visiting team.

you cannot kick season ticket holders out from the close up seats because then they probably do not renew.

then, when we are playing cupcake U, the students are not there, and the guy you kicked out of his long time seats is not either.

double whammy...

First off, are are assuming a lot about me. We all know what that means. The part about students was partially tongue in cheek. But, if you cannot admit that it is embarrassing how these supposedly big time supporters cannot even stand up and cheer when we have the #3 team almost on the ropes then you are kidding yourself. I look over and see two or three great fans standing and waving to get their section up on their feet but they cannot get their butts off their chair. The players themselves are raising their arms trying to get them going but once again, nothing.

Then you write " It’s plenty loud when you have a full and engaged student section." How about a engaged 100 level?

Here’s my problem and it is not directed at you specifically. If people want to criticize the crowd I don’t really agree but why the hell are you singling out the people in the 100 level? It’s B.S. How many of those criticizing the 100 level people are actually season ticket holders? How many games do they actually attend? Are they just watching on tv? Do they sit in the 200 or 300 level? If so, are they standing and/or cheering and do they ever sing the fight song or do the RU chant? Or is that just the responsibility of the 100 level people? Because I sure as hell don’t see much activity upstairs versus downstairs. I also don’t see the correlation between standing and noise but that’s another story.

Old farts

We complained about them when I sat in the RAC PACK behind the RU bench in late 80s.

Maybe the same people are still there and now they REALLY can't stand up!
This guy gets it! Except those people from the 80s are now the old farts who can’t stand up!!

"It looked terrible on tv"???? Get the ****k to the game and then you can complain about the people who were there. Otherwise, STFU!

agree...absolutely hate the green down there. I think some of these ticket holders never go to games, either the seats were passed down by family or they are business related. We have a strong base down there for sure not questioning that but I am questioning whether some of them even care while they are seling their tix or not going to games. I would like more participation from the 100 levels yes

I am one of those fat, rich, old Alums that have had season tickets in the 100's since the Rac was built, I attend most games for both the men and women, barring work interfering. I stay till the end, unless there is a blowout win or loss, when I move up to take my old man's pit stop before watching till the end from upstairs. Yes, it is tougher to stand and cheer than it used to be, but I know and sing the whole fight song every time (much to the chagrin of whomever in my family is sitting next to me). I know both verses of the Alma Mater and sing it loudly in its original version.

You have no Idea how much noise we make, except for the many games when the Students have something better to do, don't show up and the only energy is what we bring. But our main contribution is to harass the refs. And while it is quiet, we are all over them for basically sucking and calling the game against us. It is great to be seated 5 ft away and telling them what calls they screwed up, questioning their ancestry, asking why they don't go back to Footlocker, and occasionally offering eyedrops.

Say what you want, but we come out and support the team even if we are rebuilding (which is always).

Sorry it doesn't look good on TV.

I have never understood people leaving early when it is a close game and win/loss is still a question. I typically stay to the end for blow out losses but not expecting everyone to. Just in my DNA to not leave early.

Two things: A lot of the fans around me that were leaving were MSU fans, and getting out of that place takes forever. People have to work the next day.
