Interesting has not played a minute has he gone from being a top recruit to not even seeing the court?

Too early to write him off. Perhaps he would benefit from a RS year like Johnson but he seemed to have the body to play immediately unlike Myles who needed the year. As I recall, reclassed into the 17 class. I assume age wise he is a young sophomore? We need to keep him engaged because next year when Shaq is gone there are minutes to be filled. At this point I believe he would need to develop an injury to RS.

Definitely something to keep an eye on, but once we get into conference play, it’s all hands on deck for the bigs. We will need to spread fouls around and get 8-12 hold the fort minutes from everyone.

Mamadou needs to up his game as he will be needed during the season especially during conference play.

alot had expectations for him...its early so its too early to write him off, he had a lot of minutes and experience last year but I think Doorson/Johnson have more upside to get more minutes the way the team is structured. I am sure for taller teams Doucoure will get more minutes and a chance to really contribute.

Pikiell will play the best.and be fair to the rest.

It's real simple...get better if you wanna play more. Play better than Shaq and he will get more time. If not, Shaq will be gone after this year.so he'll get his chance.as a Junior and senior.

With that said, the matchups normally determine how many bigs need to play.

Wasn’t he a 4-star when he was in the 2018 recruiting class, before he reclassified to 2017? I mean, he wasn’t a top 50 kid, but as a 4-star, I think most had pretty high expectations for him.
Anyone who had pretty high expectations for him must not have seen him play before he arrived at Rutgers.

In July 2017 I attempted to prepare the board for what to expect from Doucoure. For anyone who missed that click HERE

It is two games into his sophomore year give the kid time to develop.
He was the 81st player in the country before reclassifying..
True but that doesn't always translate to immediate impact, especially for centers. I think he would have fallen about 50 spots by the time we published our final class of 2018 rankings had he stayed in that class.

It's all a matter of perspective. To Rutgers fans, Doucoure seems like a top recruit, because we don't often land that many four-star players. But Russ isn't a Rutgers fanboy. He scouts players for a living. A top recruit to him is probably someone who's top 20 or so in the country, the kind of player that ends up at Duke or Kentucky. That's not Doucoure.

Bigs take a little longer in many cases----relax and see what happens.

Felt like when I watched him last year he was a bit lead footed.

Give the kid some time. By his Jr/Sr years he will be a solid contributor. He has a decent 10-15 foot jump shot and some other solid qualities. He needs to learn to defend without fouling. He will also get more time once the bigger team lineups start to play us.

Exactly. Fortunately, we have a healthy Doorson and Johnson, who appears to be WAY ahead of schedule for a freshman center!

He was a four-star prospect in the 2018 class in the summer of 2017. That doesn't mean he would have been a four-star prospect when the final rankings of the 2018 class came out, had he stayed in that class. I watched Alex Owens fall from No. 71, and four-stars, to No. 131 and three stars over the course of a year. It happens sometimes and when it does, it usually happens to centers.

I still think Doucore will be a good four-year guy for Rutgers, provided he stays in shape and works hard.

Are there any recruits on Pikiell's map that are favoring Rutgers for next year....I understand if you can't give names.

Thanks for reply!

His shooting and footwork were lacking last year

Doucoure has to learn how to play at this level. Can no longer get by being the biggest/strongest player on the floor like in high school.

Couldn't tell you but I'll tag @Richard Schnyderite maybe he has an answer to your question.

Clifford Omoruyi has emerged as one of, if not the top target in 2020.

As far as 2019 goes, Rutgers is still evaluating some new options recently. Don’t forget Rutgers landed McConnell, Omoruyi and others pretty late in the process.

It is hard to judge his performance based against Drexel. He sat out for the entire game until the last few minutes...he had cold legs.

As stated before it's a combo of doorson and myles being better and lower level schools not having the size of B1G teams
So Pike is going to keep him on the bench until we face our toughest competition. Makes sense. Let's save him for our tightest, toughest games where his utter cluelessness will really be an asset. You guys crack me up.
