Email Hobbs and Baumgartner regarding Battle of the Bronx

Ash was asked on the Radio show "What are your thoughts about giving up a home game to Maryland at Yankee stadium?" His response was an immediate "That deal was struck years ago before Pat and I were here" You could tell that he is annoyed by this and is trying to seem enthusiastic about it.

Again, hopefully will never happen again, that is why I think it is important to let people know your feelings if you are someone who is against it.

Will update after my phone call tomorrow.

Still doesn't have to happen now.

What's the worst that could happen? Randy Levine is going to sit on us? LOL

I agree that it COULD be cancelled probably, but would look really really bad for RU. Think about it, especially since it was all over some sports sites and social media....I think they would rather have 5k RU fans attend than cancel it.

You want to move the needle and have people talk about Rutgers and our "brand"....

Tell the Yankees, "After further review we realized the previous administration made a bad decision which is part of the reason why they are now known as 'the previous administration'. So after discussing with our stakeholders on the issue we feel the need to say thanks but we're staying at our place."

this is fine as long as somebody goes back to the league and negotiates a faster increase in our share as we help drive the revenue, exposure, etc. (I am sure somebody is going to say this was part of the original entry deal but I don't care. )
This. If RU fans have to give up a day of one of the best tailgating and game experiences in the country and all the revenue that goes along with it to play in a horrible venue for a football game where no one inside the NYC metro area will be in awe of visiting Yankee Stadium for a football game then the BIG should fork over some of the TV revenue that got a massive bump because of RU joining the conference. I think that's fair for having to move a home game that no RU fan wants moved.

GO RU

whatever the case, the athletic department reads this board diligently...they know exactly how we feel on every issue

The only people in the Rutgers Athletic Department who read the boards diligently are student interns, no one else in the Athletic Department would waste their time reading the boards.

Let's say we play every single football game for the next ten years in Yankee Stadium, but we have loosing seasons each of those years. Nobody but existing fans will consider us "New York's team".

Conversely, say our team doesn't set foot in New York state for the next ten years, but the team regularly produces 8-12 quality wins per season. New Yorkers will happily adopt us as their team.

Everybody loves a winner.

The Jets and the Giants play their home games in New Jersey.

Also, I don't think Rutgers considers itself NYC's team, per se. Rutgers considers itself the NYC Market's team. And since we play all our home games within the NYC Market, that is clearly appropriate.

But as the NYC Market's team, we are also a local team for municipalities within the market, even if we don't actually play games within their municipal limits. That applies to Morristown, Red Bank, Ramapo, New York City, Jersey City, etc.

Beyond that, Rutgers does consider itself New Jersey's team and the local team for NJ municipalities even if they are not located in the NYC market, including Burlington, Cherry Hill, or Vineland.

I sent out the emails last night to Mr Hobbs and the other contact posted in this thread...... Again, I would hope fans remain respectful in their posts and ask for no further games be scheduled like this.

We could renege on this, but would we owe money to the Yankees for breaking the agreement? If so, how much?

Where is the update?

If you speak directly to him on phone or email, sure. But that's not what we're talking about above.
-----------
the question is, for me, would an email to Hobbs actually reach him, or does someone go through his mail and he is only given what is considered important, then he acts on that

in my case, I am fairly sure that my email to Pernetti actually reached him, and he acted on it... I would hope that most emails to Mr Hobbs reaches him....

He has an assistant who forwards it. I know this because the responses I get are from her, not him.

I dont care what Delaney says..his fingerprints are all over this in pushing RU in the NYC area and that means pushing games there

And we should all understand that part of Delanys thinking was that RU would be promoted in NYC, and this was a part of the reason we were offered membership..... I would guess that RU had to appear receptive to NYC games during negotiations

Selfishly, we can probably offer more resistance to games there as the years go by, suggesting that it is just not working out for RU.

I guess as an option we could ask Hobbs to return us to AAC,swap spots with UCCON,then tell the AAC where we want to play our games,Im sure they would take us back!
STOP with the group of Five mindset people.

Also, remember our former A.D. is from Nebraska, coached in Tennessee, and worked for Louisville. An "outsider" may not realize that the novelty of playing a game in NYC has absolutely no cache to people that live in NJ and that people in NYC couldn't care less who plays a game in the Bronx and certainly aren't buying tickets because of it.

We are not NYC s team. No one says that. We are NJ s team, and we play our home games close to NYC. We are in the NYC TV area. We also play our home games close to Philadelphia.

We are NJ s team.

It's amazing that Tennessee and VT can get 156,990 people go to a football game in a freaking racetrack where thousands upon thousands of people had to travel 113 miles from campus and had terrible sight lines because they were so far from the field. 156,990!!!! Yet you guys are complaining this much about a game in Yankee Stadium in the greatest city in the world? Jump on a damn train and subway and get dropped off at the door of the stadium and watch YOUR team play a B1G game. So what that you're a little more inconvenienced.

+1. I have been to all the Yankee Stadium games. I wouldn't suggest trying to tailgate on Jerome Avenue, but if you can't figure out how to party before the game in NYC, and enjoy the City post game, then perhaps this isn't for you. It is really easy to make it a great day.

I try to go to at least one away game and more when I can. The seats usually suck, but the idea of planning the day in a different venue and sitting in the corner of the stadium with fellow fans is an experience that I look forward to. Is it more "inconvenient" than going to a home game? Yes.

Is going to a home game more inconvenient then watching on TV? Yes.

So, as they say, "make lemonade" and enjoy the experience!

Party before the game in NYC, the Bronx? While a certain attraction nothing collegiate about it. No guarantee sitting with friends either.

You'll never drill for oil on a city street...

In January, MSG hosted a "Big Ten Super Saturday" with a hockey and basketball double header between Penn State and Michigan.

There are similar events already scheduled for 2017 and 2018. It seems we're probably going to see more of the Big Ten promoting it's athletics in NYC in the future.

That makes sense. Arena is designed for that. If we must do this nonsense should be at Met Life.

And dont make us give up a home game to Maryland of all people.

And are we not playing Wisconsin in the Garden already?

Spoke to Sarah on the phone yesterday regarding my email. To summarize: She was sincere and as genuine as can be. She thanked me again and again for voicing my concerns and made it clear that she wants to hear feedback on everything and anything to quote " that is how we will grow and get better as a program." She wanted to hear my concerns regarding the game at Yankee Stadium. I brought up the loss of a home game, the lack of college atmosphere (tailgating etc), the commute for some, the ticket distribution and the playing surface. She said she has receive many emails and phone calls with similar concerns and understands 100%. She mentioned she commuted to Yankee Stadium from central jersey and knows how frustrating it can be.

She went on to say that the deal was made some time ago and they are dedicated to trying anything and everything to get fans into the seats. It was obvious to me that the admin are not very happy with the game either but according to her "the horse has left the gate." She mentioned that they added the wrestling and are actively seeking ideas and trying to brainstorm more ways to make it as much of an RU home crowd as possible.

She also said the athletic dept is trying to be very transparent and want to hear from the fans as much as possible. She said an email will be going out early next week to anyone who sent a letter about the game that will clarify some of the questions.

All in all, I was VERY impressed that she sought to speak with me on the phone. She kept emphasizing fan feedback and basically made me realize that if you are a Rutgers fan you HAVE TO GO to this game. Yes it sucks, yes it's inconvenient, but the last thing we want is for this to be a Maryland home game, protesting this game is not going to accomplish anything positive for our school. This is a done deal (for whatever reason) and fans who don't go are just going to be spiting themselves and Rutgers.

I would probably wind up going to the game, yet if we all do that it begins to look like we approve of the move

since most here would rather play at home, I imagine we all have that conflict.

I agree. Interns only will read this board or the guy who they pay to hand out flyers

Sorry Sarah, NOT GOING...

I'm not going either. If everybody shows up, the admin will be fooled into thinking it's a good idea. If nobody shows up, the only way we'll wind up in that place again for a football game is if we're in the Pinstripe bowl, to which I also will not go.

Hopefully the Yankee organization gives up hosting bowl games or other football games entirely.

I get people are bitching. I understand not wanting to go. However, the idea people are going to drop their season tickets over this is dumb. That being said, I don't think it's a good look to have an empty stadium. For anyone who likes planning events I have a proposal. We have what? 20,000-25,000 season ticket holders. By a rough estimate the NYPD and NYFD have a combined 50,000 members. Maybe those of us who don't want to go can donate our tickets to these brave men, women, and their families? School looks good, we feel good, their kids have an experience, and we don't have to physically go. Some suggestions @MrsScrew @bori_blanco @e5fdny

They KNOW its a BAD idea. Did you not read what she said?

If there's no one there, it just makes us look small time, and people will whine and moan about not getting respect.

To each his own though..

Do not waste your time emailing them. If you don't like it, don't go. If you do go, don't complain.

Really not that hard.

I read what she said. But people say all kinds of crap. I don't believe that they won't reschedule again unless they feel there's a strong enough disincentive.

As for looking small time, when we starting winning most of our games, we'll get respect. Until then, nobody but our own program will give a crap about how many people show up in Yankee stadium. The entire rest of the country doesn't care.

I think that's a great idea. Although it puts some ambiguity into the message many of us would like the admin to receive about future games there.

If they leave that game out of the home game ticket pricing, I would purchase tickets do donate to NYPD/FD members.
