Friendly PSA - B1G Wrestling - #11 Rutgers vs. #2 Penn State - BTN @ 7:00

Solid job by Delvecchio, but seems like he missed an opportunity at getting a major decision if he was more active.

psu with #1 wrestlers two matches in a row. it's going to be a tough evening.

Rutgers down 15-6 at intermission

If the OP knew anything about wrestling he would know 125 wasn't going to be a close match. Nor was this going to be a close or exciting match. This isn't football. I think this was definitely a troll post, knowing full well we would be destroyed, with only having a shot to win 2 matches and long odds to win 3 at most. While psu was destined for bonus points in several matches.

Edit. And I loved the typical NJ douche comment directed at Abro on the main board. kjb your an ass and a troll, I'm going to treat you like one every time you post here.

If you believe in Karma you wouldn't think anyone would ever lose to PSU again. In fact, you'd probably be expecting a meteor to hit happy valley.
Agreed. But maybe we should just focus on supporting and discussing our teams for once. Even against PSU. I just want Rutgers to be successful.

Me too but you can support Rutgers while discussing the most vile act in the history of college sports. Especially when PSU fans are here trolling daily. OP posted a similiar thread on the mainboard with veiled shots at RU

Oh great. Even Rutgers' karma sucks and loses to other conference mate's karma.
You are confusing karma with poverty, stupidity, and crap leadership. If your wife finds out you are banging the babysittter it's easy to blame karma. It's more likely you left a used rubber on the floor.

One of the most vile acts ever, let alone sports. Multiple people in high positions, including what was the most revered college football coach in history, covered up and enabled child rape for years on end. I challenge anyone to find me a worse story than that. PSU couldn't get enough criticism and bad press in our lifetimes to justify what happened there - school should have been closed - let alone have any thriving sports programs.

Just so people know, this was the score we were expecting. As great as our wrestling program is, we are so far behind the top teams in the nation, it's not funny. There were some really nice close matches that we can take positives from, including Correnti and Bak, but yeah.

mind answering a question? What is a Fall and a Tech Fall?
I didn't see any "Pins" or is that not something you see these days or scored differently.

(long time since I watched a match)..thanks!

A Fall is a pin. A tech fall is when you are up 15 points on your opponent and the match then gets stopped. A Fall is worth 6 team points, a tech fall is 5 team points.

The term great program should be used for schools that win championships like Penn State and Iowa.Like every other sport recruiting top tier wrestlers is what separates schools in individual matches and NCAA Tournaments.Rutgers has made very good progress in wrestling but still has a way to go to be considered a top ten program.

Well I think you might want to substitute top 10 with elite - Rutgers ranked #10 going into yesterday's match. But I get your point - the difference between between getting consistent good wrestlers vs consistent blue chip wrestlers was really on display yesterday. We belong in the B1G which is the elite wrestling conference by far, but we are far away from being an elite program.

The problem with rankings in college is that it's out of lets say 80 teams (because of title IX stuff and general athletics funding whatnot). Whereas basketball has 300+ D1 teams and football has 130+ teams. There are major tiers in collegiate wrestling. Tier 1 is your top 3 teams (PSU, Iowa, OkSt). They're pretty much unstoppable. Tier 2 is teams ranked about 4-8 or so (tOSU, Nebraska, Cornell, etc). They're filled with maybe 5-6 AAs each. And then we make up Tier 3 with probably 10 other teams. We're lucky to get a handful (2-3) AAs each year. We have spots in the lineup that are almost guaranteed bonus points for the opponent's this year. Did I mentioned at least half of the teams that I'm referring to above are in our conference? It's crazy.

A great year for us is last year. We sent all 10 starters to the NCAA tournament and came home with a couple All-Americans. To the top few teams, that type of success would get the coach fired. They may miss out on a guy somewhere not making NCAAs (because of redshirting the real starter), but they're looking at getting half their team into the semifinals or beyond, not just into the tournament.

We've got some really good recruits coming in in the future, but we're so far behind in funding and facilities that it truly is amazing with this staff, the SKWC, the team, and the fans have been able to do so far. Knowing that a decade ago we were losing 37-6 to the likes of Drexel, it's crazy how far we've come in a short period!

Love your post PhilaPhan pretty much dead on. One thing I would like to add we don't even fund our program for the full allotment of out of state scholarships. That one probably costs us somewhere around 2-3 blue chip recruits on the roster. I know it already cost RU a blue chip recruit a year or two ago. In a sport with only 10 weight classes 2 or 3 blue chips is huge in this meat grinder of a conference. We're really playing the game with one arm tied around our back here.
