Geo isn’t a leader. One more thing to add if I didnt say it
This team's work ethic and attitude is extremely disappointing to me given our NCAA tournament appearance.

Its really that simple. When you put no emphasis on offense and it all on defense it simply gives you a high floor but very low ceiling
I wouldn’t be surprised if with 14 or 10 minutes to go in a half you have a package where you play zone for 2 minutes + the next whistle. The elephant in the room right now is this
We have four below average man to man defenders (Paul, geo, Agee and Jaden )
And a young center that is raw
Pike isn’t going to get these guys to play defense the way he wants to ...
So can we become an effective zone team on the fly ...which will allow more offense on the floor
Dead serious ...because if you watch the defense in our first four games ...you sound see it
We made the fouls. We got beat over and over on the floor and when that happens you foul. We are slow and hence we foul a lot more than the other guys.I know we didn’t get to the basket as much as the game went on, despite success in the paint early. However 33-6 in FTs is a notable disparity. I convinced myself that we’d get more respect as a B1G team off a tourney run, but Jesus. That’s a disparity out of the FHJ era and those were some BRUTAL ones.
There are deep seeded issues with this team and coach right now. And this is not the sole reason we lost this game, not by a long shot. I just wish for once, this coach would fight for these kids. Or at least let the stripes know.
Ahhhh...the Geo dog whistle.Geo isn’t a leader.
And that’s on the way Pike coached?wrong..we couldnt play defense without fouling, always chasing, always slow, given open 3s and watching others fly in for boards
Low ceiling is he wont get out of the first weekend.@kyk1827 Im not being a jerk, I truly want to understand what you mean when you say this. He’s had back to back double digit conference win seasons and was two minutes from a sweet 16. What exactly is the very low ceiling? Is it National title or bust?
Lafayette is like a bottom 25 team in all of D1.So many landmines ahead that can torpedo the season right away starting with dangerous Lafayette
You do realize they have a bunch of transfers. 3 guys carried over from last season of the guys that actually play and one of them didn't play much as the explained last year because of when he arrived. It's a complete different rosterDePaul a big 5 wins all season last year. Depressing.
I just don’t think they’re that good. Plenty of length but no quickness. Our quickest player is our 6-11 center but he’s not as quick when he’s sitting in the bench in foul trouble. If either Geo or Ron have an off game offensively we have zero chance to win. There’s no reliable third scorer. I want Hyatt to play more but his shooting numbers are quietly crappy also. Sigh. One more thing to add if I didnt say it
This team's work ethic and attitude is extremely disappointing to me given our NCAA tournament appearance.
Well said! This was an absolute hideous loss. I am not even going to do a full recap given how infuriated I am right now. Make no mistake about it. De Paul is terrible. They got hot shooting 3s but so what, it never should have been this close of a game
Pike has been given god like status above criticism because he got us from hell to the NCAA tourney but quite frankly his coaching and development of the team this season has been beyond atrocious. This loss is on him and the staff. From his insistence on playing Caleb, to his mind numbing subsitution pattern, from pulling the guys who got us on a run, to not having his team full of experienced players even have a clue on how to run an end game situation with 25 seconds, to taking the ball out of Rons hands on the last couple of possessions
I really dont have many illusions about this season, we arent very good. We just lost to the worst team in the Big East. I dont care what other Big 10 schools are doing, they are losing to better schools. Yet the game was more than winnable even playing as bad as we did. Thats why this is on Coach. He is not putting this team in the best position to win. Its almost as if he and his coaching staff are resting on their laurels and this team is following suit, not working hard, no hunger. Its disappointing to see all around from players and coaches but we saw hints of this last year in games vs Nebraska for example.
We can go through each individual play but we know the game was lost early on and by midway through the 2nd the dye was cast. Stubborn coach going to bring a loss. I saw very little change from the first 3 games, more of the same. So now we have a small 4 game sample of this team against poor competition and we see in all 4 games almost the same exact level of play, mistakes, wrong lineups, lack of intensity, carelessness, lack of leadership. This team is in dire need of a major shakeup yet there is very little on the bench to bring in because recruiting has so many misses...Palmquist, Reiber, Agee, Mag. These are not Big 10 players. We have one kid on the bench that can shoot like crazy but Pike will not let him play through his mistakes..so down in flames we go. Hyatt shows more upside than anyone on the team yet continues to sit for long parts of the game. If you think recruiting isnt an issue, you are just a shill for Pike. Its a problem and next year its going to get real bad if we cannot hit the portal.
So many landmines ahead that can torpedo the season right away starting with dangerous Lafayette, a good Clemson and then big dogs in the Big 10. Last game I said we would get a better read on the team after this game, well we got the returns and its not pretty
Probably because the other teams are goading them into shooting. Wouldn’t you? But it should be a point of emphasis by Pike that they need to look for Ron and to a lesser extent Geo every trip.why do we insist on Paul and Caleb taking shots early. I asked this after game 2. Is it to get them going...its not working. Paul did come alive and he is coming around but in general it isnt helping us get out to leads
Nailed it! Said to my friends that this team lacks the on-ball defense Pike would like to see in a man to man setting. We are much better off in a zone which would help with rebounding as well. Sad that I can notice this but our coach can’t.THIS!!!!
Nope. Lol. Ive literally posted screenshots here in spring 2019. Pike thought backcourt was good enough to not need a pg in JQ and he asked luther to redshirt haha
Yes. All of that is effort. It simply hasn’t been there to start the season. That’s on the coaching staff. They need to find the right buttons to push. And that’s on the way Pike coached?

This is easy to say. Are there rotations that do make sense? Shack hits the nail on the head. If we insist on playing man RIGHT NOW we are very limited.Pike needs to make adjustments for sure.
These rotations make no sense.
Lets see what happens.
Effort is 95% on the players. These are Big Ten players, they shouldn’t have to be motivatedYes. All of that is effort. It simply hasn’t been there to start the season. That’s on the coaching staff. They need to find the right buttons to push.
You literally have no idea what their work effort or attitude are and are just inferring it from game results. One more thing to add if I didnt say it

Well what did those posts say?I can’t wait to bump my posts from last year when everyone was calling me a moron, it seems more people are waking up to the truth
Excellent points! One similarity Pike has with Schiano is stubbornness however. Can Pike implement a change in defense now or during the season? The elephant in the room right now is this
We have four below average man to man defenders (Paul, geo, Agee and Jaden )

Unfortunately, that’s where you’d be wrong. Eddie Jordan treated his squad like NBA players. Thought they’d condition and motivate themselves all on their own. It was a disaster. These are college kids. They need direction. That’s why college coaches employ sports psychologists. It helps them find out how they’re players tick so they can get the most out of them. Pike needs to get the most out of his guys. Right now, it’s not happening.Effort is 95% on the players. These are Big Ten players, they shouldn’t have to be motivated

How many minutes did Jaden play?Unfortunately, that’s where you’d be wrong. Eddie Jordan treated his squad like NBA players. Thought they’d condition and motivate themselves all on their own. It's worrisome Cliff can't stay on the court against DePaul. What happens when B1G games start? This is easy to say. Are there rotations that do make sense? Shack hits the nail on the head. If we insist on playing man RIGHT NOW we are very limited.
where I very respectfully disagree with Shack is that I am not pulling the plug on my base D and the identity of Rutgers basketball. The thought of playing zone ran across my mind multiple times watching the game.
Jones was god awful defensively. He was picked on and abused. However it isn’t like others were good individually.
Cliff is the key here. Pike will her the team to defend the line better. I know it. That puts the weight of our entire defense on Cliff. That might be an unrealistic ask.
And a first year coachYou do realize they have a bunch of transfers. 3 guys carried over from last season of the guys that actually play and one of them didn't play much as the explained last year because of when he arrived. It's a complete different roster
For the 3rd straight year our most important player is our starting center. Cliff staying out of foul trouble is everything. It's worrisome Cliff can't stay on the court against DePaul. What happens when B1G starts?
They could be the hungriest team in the world and if they played like this you would say the same thing.lol, i watch the game, if you think this team is showing hunger you are lying
now that is fair and more measuredalso lets note this team continues to not play as a team...they are certainly not on the same page, there was a stretch where they played team ball but in generally I am utterly disappointed in their focus and lack of work ethic
why do we insist on Paul and Caleb taking shots early. I asked this after game 2. Is it to get them going...its not working. Paul did come alive and he is coming around but in general it isnt helping us get out to leads
Did you reply to the wrong message? I said this was on Pike. But, as others have noted, Jaden was a complete liability on defense tonight. I understand sitting him. The problem is, he wasn’t the only one not defending their best or hitting the glass. Not enough effort from anybody, aside from Hyatt maybe. How many minutes did Jaden play?
Trust Pike
They could be the hungriest team in the world and if they played like this you would say the same thing.
They also only have seven players on scholarship. You do realize they have a bunch of transfers. 3 guys carried over from last season of the guys that actually play and one of them didn't play much as the explained last year because of when he arrived. It's a complete different roster
This proves my point. You are just inferring the "hunger" from the result. It's actually possible to try, be "hungry", and still lose. Your thoughts on the effort level literally add no information I couldn't have gotten from looking at the box score.a hungry team doesnt lose to this crap team tonight
Hungry teams that have no shooters or clue on offense do. Mediocre teams lose to crap teams on the road all the time.a hungry team doesnt lose to this crap team tonight
