If I were an RU fan, I wouldn't be very happy right now

The elephant in the room is that NO ONE deserves to earn that kind of money. So I'm glad Rutgers is not participating as much as other schools in the obscene arms race to pay huge sums of money to people for coaching a SPORT (i.e. game) while millions of people around the world do not even have access to clean water, food or a roof over their heads. We've truly lost our way in this world

Our admin is penny wise and pound foolish... but we're also bringing in nowhere close to Minnesota's revenue right now.

In 2015, the Big Ten distributed $32.4M each to its 11 long-standing members. By contrast, Rutgers got $10.5M.... slowly crawling up from our initial Big Ten conference payout of $9.4M. That's pretty much where we were at previously, as we got $9.5M in our last year in the AAC and $9.7M the year before that.

So, just over the last three years, we're about $60M behind Minnesota just in terms of conference revenue.

We're supposed to see revenue increase on a sliding scale until a full share in 2021. Can't start dropping huge money on coaches just yet.

This is the bottom line! We are all happy to be in the big 10, but the terrible financial deal Rutgers had to strike to gain conference admission is really a tremendous albatross for 5 more years. I also think that MN had to overpay because of the shit show that just went down there regarding their football team.

If Ash actually rebuilds this thing, he will get a nice raise with his next contract, if he fails, will will have more money for the next HC.

For now Rutgers is the least paid school in the Big Ten and that will always be the case until July 2021. We are doing the best we can with what we have. Facilities in Football are still being upgraded (new Gym upgrade last year, new outdoor this year and more to come!) and we will break ground on the big one for other sports including basketball, wrestling, and gymnastics this year.

Ok, but in the long run we will be a WAY the hell better off than are former conference team mates and that includes the ones that made it to a Power 5 conference money wise. We just have to suck it up until July 2021.

You are 100% right about Minny, it is a dumpster fire over there, no one would taken that job for less than that. Can you imagine if they didn't hire a hot name? I think all hell would have broken loose with tons of transfers and donors refusing to give anymore money. They had no choice.

This is one of the dumbest posts I've read on a message board and that's saying a lot.

I posted on my own board that Penn State actually won despite losing the Rose Bowl. I wasn't upset about the loss at all.
LOL. Because allowing oneself to be jealous about how much money a football team's head coach is paid is pure genius. Defensive much?

I'm simply devastated by your opinion about the relative intelligence of my post. Devastated, I tell you. Devastated. [roll]

These 3 posts pretty much sum it up in a nutshell. We're far better off being in the Big Ten, but we've been hamstrung as far as being able to compete on a level playing field with the other members. That will change once we start receiving an equal share.

The problem with college football is: you don't always get what you pay for. At some point the arms race has got to stop.

It looks like we fired Flood one year too early. I think there are better coaches available now than there was last year.

If Rutgers spent $18 million on PJ Fleck I would quit being a fan, cold turkey. Horrible hire, as you will see.

As it stands, we have Ash AND Kill both for a lot less than Minnesota is paying Fleck and we're supposed to be upset?

OP must me sniffing cow dung out there in the middle of absolutely nowhere.

Of all the things Rutgers fans have to be unhappy about this is probably #8654 on the list. This is borderline irrelevant to us. OP is not even close.

You know something the rest of the world doesn't?
This has nothing to do with Ash.

Retarded op post. We got our guy and most believe he will be successful. The competition in the big is incredible. But we knew that already. We also knew that the big has big wallets. No shit. So this is just a flat out stupid troll post.

The state of Pennsylvania provides exactly $0 to Penn State athletics.
I didn't say that Pa gave PSU money. I said they would have no problem giving PSU money for the football program compared to NJ, where the state finds every excuse to say no and as well as the state newspapers will find every, single thing wrong with anything this university does.

Huge risk. First, he's not a coordinator. Second, he achieved success in a lesser conference, largely by gaining a talent advantage through high energy and enthusiastic recruitment. That won't happen at Minnesota. Not enough local kids, not enough kids will want to go there when they have offers from bigger schools in warmer climates In fact, he'll be, like every coach at Minnesota, at a talent disadvantage, most weeks.

So, now he's reliant on keeping great coordinators who will be able to overcome talent deficits week in and week out and if they do that, how long do they stay in Minnesota?

Being young a cool guy can get you to the top of the MAC but not very far in the B1G. Mark it down.

No way that Hobbs would have ever hired Fleck, and it has nothing to do with whether or not he will have on the field success as a coach at Minnesota. Hobbs wanted a certain perspective in his HC that goes well beyond wins and losses, such as academic and community success and most importantly, prepping student-athletes for life after college and sports. Obviously, any HC hire needs to eventually find W/L success to keep their job, but Hobbs felt that these other factors are critical as well, and there is no way that Fleck checks all those boxes.

I was privileged about two months ago to be part of a corporate group that Hobbs addressed, and he was very forthcoming about what he was looking for in a HC hire for RU football. Also gave an interesting perspective on why Gary wasn't a consideration for coming back (this was in response to a question during the Q&A following his presentation). Hobbs became locked into Ash at a certain point where many more established HCs (think Pitt's Narducci) would have fallen out of consideration even if they had progressed that far.

No one really knows if PJ will succeed at Minny, but based on what he did with the Bronco program: I can't claim he won't be successful and make the Gophers into top B1G West program and a constant player in the B1G title hunt .

He took an overmatched Western Michigan team and lost to Wisconsin by a touchdown. Wisconsin would've beat us by 45 points.

I don't know why we care. At best PJ will do as good as Jerry Kill was before he got sick. And we have Kill and Ash.

I saw Flecks presser at Minnesota and boy oh boy he needs to lay off the caffeine. But IMHO he should be complemented on his accomplishments at WM. Not sure how he would have worked out here at Rutgers and honestly I don't care. What I care about is that coach Ash gets it together and starts generating some W's next year. I stand firm on the following, 2018 must produce at least 7 wins, preferably 8.

No you don't. We all know that you are a pedophile supporter and troll. BTW, Mr. Rocket Scientist, the word is "complimented".

That's one hell of a deduction.
I think the complete opposite...I'm thinking he'll be excellent for the Gophers

If I was you I'd go to my home board and the BWI/ McAndrew forum and complain that RU fans are picking on you. Seriously what kind of a douche names a forum after himself.:chairshot:

I have to say, I wanted to see Fleck hired last year.. just because he'd know what Rutgers was about having been here.. and I thought his enthusiasm would help a lot.. help ignore all the things we got going against us.

But as I saw him handle the limelight.. I have to wonder if he is just a loon whose act will get old and that, eventually, he will lose any lockerroom or fan population or recruiting base... in the long run.

On the plus side.. he obviously earned that limelight we saw him in.

Time will tell if he's successful. If he turns the Minnesota program around and they play in a Rose Bowl in three years it will be on Pat Hobbs. One thing is for sure, he's not going in there thinking that it's a five year rebuild.

Lol at the idea that we're supposed to be jealous that Minnesota just threw money at a guy who couldn't be a coordinator at the d1 level on offense or defense. That's a huge detriment when your HC must rely almost 100% on his coordinators AND (here's the important part) has little in the way of connections.

This guy basically went from being a Rutgers position coach to head coach. He gonna hire ciarrocca again as OC? So..We know how ciarrocca can look through a transition year. He gonna transition the offense at Minny the same way he did at Rutgers to a spread? The fanbase will be calling for his head. And if fleck fails to get ciarrocca cause he's a semi big name right now? I can't for the life of me imagine who he will hire at OC and dc. Who wants to work for this guy who himself couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag?

Sorry, RU31trap, but you can't "unring the bell", and you've already been outed as a fraud when you try to pose as an RU fan here. While admittedly (and sadly) there are many RU fans on this board who think that there is some kind of statue of limitations on covering up for a pedophile, I don't know any who see the PSU football program as the "victim" in the scandal as you do.

Oh, the irony! Someone who isn't upset that his team blew a 2 TD 4th quarter lead in the Rose Bowl and sustained a heartbreaking loss on the last play of the game decides to create a thread in order to tell US how WE should feel !?!. Pathetic.

Ease up before you end up getting ban.

But for those who don't know, RU31rap posted a thread during the Big Ten Championship game where is finally came out as a life long die hard Penn State fan, though he did say that he also "followed" Rutgers since he is from New Jersey to save face but the replies to that thread were so heated that the mods had to delete the thread.

Now he is pretending that that thread never happen and that he is an actual Rutgers fan. He is not. He picked a Rutgers related name to troll people here. We all seen this before with Uconn and Cuse fans.

I have a lot more respect for Penn State fans that come here with Penn State related names and don't pretend to be something that are not, even if I don't agree with what they have to say, at least they are not trying to hide or trick anyone.

Minny just paid Fleck 5 years and $18.5M. Sometimes I wonder if you all are on a ship with no captain. Your admin just doesn't get it.

BTW, MN has no football talent and NJ is a freaking hotbed.

I'm probably flying off the handle here and don't know enough about revenue sharing and such but for once I would like to see your admin step up and bet on the come.
we all know "you get what you paid for" this is not something new
