Is Ash in trouble?

"Rutgers coach Chris Ash has not responded to several attempts by NJ Advance Media for comment."

If Ash wants to continue as coach he needs to be transparent and get out in front of this, right now.

He's in trouble since program momentum is currently negative. He can change that by winning enough games over the next 6 months. If the wins don't come in, he's just about a dead man walking, as I can't see recruiting picking up without a good story to sell. The latest news doesn't help, but he was already on a hot seat. I can see him survive a season without a bowl, as long as it translates into competitive games that highlight a team that is trending up and results in some players that can fill the obvious holes pronto (I think he needs at least 4 wins, with 2-3 close losses to our B1Gger brethren).

I'm rooting for him & the program. Would be a great story.

I hope Ash didn't kick out the kid because of a little weed and an open container that is just stupid and very minor offense.
The @LevaosLectures guy has you confused.(bad form LL) Here's the real way it went down.

-Ash kicks KJ Gray and Devera off team(for credit card fraud). Press doesn't know reason yet so they go digging
-Reporter goes to each surrounding town for an open records report to find anything.
-Bam, finds out about KJ Gray being summoned in East Brunswick for drugs and open container in June.
-Reporter goes to Rutgers officials to find out if this is reason why he was kicked off the team.
-Nobody, I mean nobody from administrative to coaching staff know what the hell he's talking about. This is the 1st they've heard about it.

Turns out KJ forgot or maybe it slipped his mind:rolleyes:, that he has a responsibility to inform his coaches. Thus we find out KJ Gray is now on his 3rd strike at the ripe old age of 21 and from his tweet he's hoping for a second chance somewhere else. Or is that third chance? That aspect gets a little confusing for KJ.

Mmmmm....no. You are wrong again. You are just hating and piling on at a tough time for this team and the fan base.

Thanks for proving me right. Since there's no data available to defend Ash's record, you simply lash out at a poster who points out the facts. Whatever.

Rutgers better be getting a short list together and Schiano should be at the top of the list.
Hobbs has done a lot of good things here, but he can’t be trusted to make another football hire if ash flops. He needs some help with this.

Agree. If the day comes this season where a 5-win season is no longer possible, he should be fired immediately, an interim coach appointed and the search is full swing. Need to start preparing for this possibility now.

The great thing for ash is he still gets to control his own destiny. Take care of business on the field and he’s going to keep his job, peobably even get a raise and extension out of it. In many professions, people don’t get that opportunity and are sometimes casualties of corporate or political decisions no matter how good of a job they do.
Ash still gets to coach the games, and his success/failure is what he will be judged upon.

Ash should know that he should be calling all police departments in surrounding towns to ask if any of his players have been arrested or otherwise had brushes with the law. This one is clearly on Ash.
If Gray never tells anybody who’s fault is it really?
Ash was a little lazy. He should spend more time on the phone with local police departments polling them.

Ash may not be the right guy, but comparing records is silly.
The point is that Ash defenders have no data to back up their assertion that he's a great coach and that everyone else is "anti-RU" or "trolls." He's 6-18 with a loss to Eastern Michigan, 0 points scored against Ohio State, bad recruiting and now off-the-field problems. Yet I'm a "troll" for demanding at least 5 wins from him in his third year, which every Rutgers football coach in the last 50+ years has accomplished. LOL

Let’s see what the results are for the year before throwing Ash under the bus. Yes, he’s in a tough position, recruiting not going well, might hav 10% of his players suspended or kicked off the team. You know what, he has th opportunity to change the narrative, US against the world, unite the team, get them focused, used this tragedy to inspire the troops. The question is, Is he the type of coach to do that? We will see what he and his staff are made of this year, either you can curl up and play dead or come out swinging and leave everything on the field. The type of team we see on the field will be clear indication on Ash’s future. Let’s see how it plays out before we start saying the eulogy for Coach Ash. I’m hoping the kids unite, band together, us against the world, have a season that none of us thought would be possible!!

No, but a Head Coach of any Program should have some sense that something is wrong when 10% of your players are involved in illegal criminal activities.

Disagree. It was credit card fraud, allegedly.
The self-righteousness of some here is amusing.

Ongoing issue with Gray and drugs .....not known ?
Having 8 players possibly involved in the cc scam shows he has no pulse on the program/ and does not recognize character issues of his players.

Not to be sarcastic , are you somehow related to the Ash family ?

Unfortunately it’s a crime. I am sure many here wish this would get swept under the rug and we win 6 games. Villanova basketball didn’t throw Kerry kittles out when he was involved in a phone card scam.
Losing is the worst thing that can happen to a program and we need to avoid that.

Just stop already.
He has 80 plus kids on the roster, recruiting responsibilities, managing the coaches, fundraising and a lot of other stuff to do besides babysitting grown men (18 year olds are men). Let's turn the tables. How many parents do you know have kids who were smoking pot or doing things like stealing, but never got caught. If you are friends with these parents, are you going to get in their face and tell them that they are failures as parents and should be fired?
Seriously doubting you are the #1 fan of RU. Just go cheer for someone else already.

If it is 8 players involve, even credit card fraud makes for people to need this matter to be addressed ASAP .
Because of the poor reputation RU gained under Fllood, Ash has to make the disipline he gives out very hard of those who were involved.
Won't blame Ash, but expect him to get on top of this quickly and instill the fear of Ash on each and every player on the roster after they see how he addressed this mess.
and the players responciblefor RU's latest black eye.
I'm sure some of the players had minor roles, but their punishment must make them think 4 times before crossing the line, even a little, again
The ringleader(s) if there was one, need to be severly disiplined even to the point of kicking them out of the program or suspending them from all team activity for
a year once facts come out.

I'm sure the player were told their actions would reflect on how people looked at the RU FB program and now people are looking at how Ash handles this credit card mess.
Since the players messed up Rutgers reputation , they must be held accountable if they are guilty of the crime.
But Ash has to address the fact that some pf his players were named participants in credit card fraud and the best way is suspend them until all the facts come out .

You make some good points. But when ash has a team that embarrasses rutgers on the field, many here hang their hat on that at least he doesn’t embarrass us off the field. Now if that goes away, ash has absolutely nothing going for him. We would stink on and off the field under ash.
So he better win 5 or 6 games next year .

How does anybody at Rutgers know this part of the equation if the grown ass man in question doesn’t fess up?

Not to be sarcastic but are you really our #1 fan?

OK, keeping quiet is probably the correct move right now. Just saw News 12 bumble and stumble through trying to make this a huge issue. Rutgers blanket statement said, they will not comment while an ongoing investigation is underway. Same from Rutgers police. Middlesex county dickheads have been kept out of it for now and had no comment.(poor prosecutor can't have his name in lights)

The piece which they led in on was basically a mess as they had no info to go off of. So basically they had two guys sitting there trying to theorize about the ails of college football. We're starting to learn how the big boys do it. Someone at Rutgers is controlling this and knows what he's doing. Could be a former ombudsman.:)

None of this stuff would even be news if we were good. Unfortunately we suck.

this...Ash is in trouble because the wins havent come yet so year 3 is huge for him and now some scandal hits, he is not to blame necessarily for that BUT in light of he was hired for a cleanup of the whole shabang after awful Elmer Flood was sent packing its definitely puts him on notice, could be the difference between getting a year 5 or sent packing after year 4 if results are still not there..ie bowl
