Is this still a Football Forum ?

What I don't understand is the complaining about this board now. We have less new OT posts in general. We have threads on the front page that haven't had a responses in days. I was looking after this thread started and the bottom of the first page had threads 3 days old. Never remember seeing that. I think posting in general is down. No clue why the OP is crying about this.
I posted something similar in one of the threads that got locked or deleted. There's simply less activity than there used to be a few years ago, as the first page (about 40 posts) used to only contain posts made in the previous 8-12 hours, whereas the first page now usually has some posts that are 2-3 days old. I doubt that's desired by the site management, as this forum has always been a primary "feeder" of posters to the pemium board, which is why the free boards exist. Or maybe the business model has changed - if so I'd be curious to know to what.

My guess (speculation - no data) is that enough posters have become fed up with the confrontational nature of so many posters on the board and simply post less as it's simply not as enjoyable. I know I post a fair amount less than I used to (except in game threads and weather threads) and have had IM conversations with others who feel similarly. It's good, though, to see some recent effort to moderate some threads, like this one, that start spiraling out of control with insults/politics.

In my case it's gone way over the top. I don't post on the CE board any more, yet about 8-10 of the regulars there still tag me regularly on old threads that have been moved there or even in new threads, usually along with any number of insults (I can see the posts, as I have premium) to try to bait me into posting there - that kind of thing used to be disallowed, but the rules no longer explicitly disallow tagging people who aren't involved in threads. But regardless of whether it's against the rules, it's boorish, childish behavior and makes me even less likely to post there and has made me post on this board less, as it spills over to here.

Wait till snow season starts.........

Looks like our most banned poster with 400+ banned names is at it again! @Spanky Da Dickhead is his newest name.
lol, I just noticed that username liking a few posts (but hadn't seen any posts from that name) and I thought @DJ Spanky had figured out some clever way to "like" posts with a different username as a goof.

No, that's our resident nutcase. He crosses the line, gets banned, then registers a name like that to try spamming the board.

As far as the football board, it is what WE make of it. The OT threads don't really bother me. It is unfortunate that when threads about football get started, they get minimal to no response. For example, the various coach pressers or the podcasts that Richie posts get very few comments.

I try to keep the football content up, posting stuff related to Rutgers football that appears on X (Twitter) or YouTube, and then some of the usual curmudgeons mock the thread or the content. That's their choice. Still waiting for the poster who started this thread to post on one of the many football threads posted after this thread and in which he has been tagged. As I said above, this board is what we make it.

As far as the confrontational nature of the board, I put a bunch of people on ignore, and that works well. The confrontational nature of "anti-social" media is not limited to this board. It's on X, and other team forums. A couple of other forums I am on are less confrontational, but they are fairly specialized and not a lot to fight about, such as mountain bike riding, but even in that forum fights break out over the silliest (non-political) things. The F150 Lightning forum is pretty good for lack of fighting. The Springsteen forums can get pretty nasty.

I will try to get @rick81721 to post here...

What some our posters are fed up with is the bolded, the "no data" part of the conversation. As said earlier, many times there is no there there when it comes to what's actually going on with Football.

After a while it does get annoying, and you do end up with bickering over what little minutia is actually shared by his majesty.

* I mean if you're going to steal my line, at least give me credit. LOL

But @Knight Shift is right, it's not just here, it's all over social media now...the behavior.

I still stay by my point though...more news about the Program the better the conversation.

The issue I have with talking Football is that every thread will end up with a few posters constantly bring up Wimsatt and his numbers from last year.

It's the same damn conversation ever time.

That's my point.

Fort Knox type clampdown on information doesn't give us anything else to talk about.

Nonsense.

But listen, let me tell you all about Wimsatt’s numbers from last year…

Poster 1 : "Who's going to start at LB this year?"

Poster 2: "7 wins in the limit with Wimsatt"
I'll finish that last sentence for you " 7 wins in the limit with Wimsatt" unless he's the tight end and then there's no stopping RU.

It’s funny ‘cause it’s true.

I see it as more evidence of the ever-increasing obsessiveness disorder afflicting so many of our fellow Americans these days.

The limited number of posts in those threads should tell you that the OP raised a valid question.
I think there were a lot of football threads in recent weeks leading up to the Spring Game. The engagement was just spread around a bit.

How does it post with two different (that we know of) accounts at the same time?

The OP can be part of the solution or part of the problem. By not participating and starting threads complaining about OT thread, IMO that makes the OP part of the problem.

No it shouldn't. All it should tell us, objectively at least, is that the majority of forum members here are apparently more interested in the OT threads, at the moment, than in those football threads.

What @DJ Spanky is saying/implying is correct. If people want more football talk, there is absolutely nothing stopping them from doing that. Create more football threads. Post more in football threads. Those will, as the OP says, then "drown out" the OT threads. Problem solved.

Every off-season we go through this argument. Taking away something people are are enjoying doing, which isn't causing anybody harm, in order to try to force people to do something else that the data says only an apparent few prefer, seems backwards.

Nobody is forcing anybody to discuss anything. It's trivially simple to skip threads with "OT:" in the thread title. Even easier than acting like a hall monitor for the forum threads.

Its always been like this. Use to be so many interesting topics - that Rutgers was thought of as one of the better boards on rivals. This was some time ago though

This is an answer to the OP’s question and one that I suppose he would agree with.

I for one really want to know what the favorite drink of burned out teachers is when they are trying to decide which sports betting app to use for betting on Yankee and Met games

Probably the same one doctors, lawyers, accountants, engineers, Indian chiefs and yes even fireman use.

The stories I heard from my accountant this year about some of his other client’s gambling habits were wild.

legalized gambling is going to ruin so many things...

If he ever reads a college football thread he might agree with it but apparently he never goes into football threads!

Agreed says the guy who just got back from playing poker all day at parx lol. I never gamble with money I can't afford to lose, but unfortunately many people risk money they shouldn't.
I was talking more about the online stuff.

So convenient and easy since you don’t even have to get off the couch.

Or even worse…the office.

Everything said above is untrue.

According to the data of the site that is tracked every day, we are actually at all time highs in viewership, overall message board posts (all boards) and premium members since we took over the site back in April 2018. I will say a lot of the guys who were strictly free board posters have made the leap to the premium side of things and haven't looked back since that's where all the real scoop is.

This forum has become a dumping ground for any issue on one's mind. Next season could be an exciting time for football fans that's being drowned out by miscellaneous current events totally unrelated to Rutgers football. What's up? Does anyone care?
It's the offseason, this legit happens every year around this time. It's all about recruiting from now until training camp in the Fall.

To be honest, most posters have no problem with the many OT threads- this board has become a community and leaning on a community to help out with advice or knowledge has been helpful to many
