I made this an OT thread because as of this time there is no Rutgers connection. A few months ago this kids name was brought up on this board. I looked him up, videos etc.

He was rated a 2 star class of 2019 point guard. It appears he is stepping up some. I see him now as a three star PG. Several solid schools are now showing interest. Schools like BC, GW, BYU and even UConn was in for a visit to see him.

The kid has a great stroke from deep, not sure what level the kid will end up at. Here is a video of him:

This guy definitely doesn't believe in tapes. You want to evaluate him you have to see him live.

Neither do I. There are full game tapes out there too. Kid can shoot, was just stating that more schools are starting to look at him.

`Girard it is, and he has drawn interest from a few lower tier teams.

As I posted in the original post, some teams like UCONN, GW, BC, BYU are showing interest.

Again, never said we should or should not get this kid, just saw his name pop up here months ago and found some newer info on him.

Notre Dame likes the kid, been watching him for a while. Girard took an unofficial visit there last fall. Kid is tough and a leader, played up on City Rocks 17U team

Guess he is getting more looks than just lower tier teams.

You can't tell anything from a tape? You have to be kidding. I'll tell you what you can see from Girard's tape:

1. Has a relatively quick shot. Not lightening, but not bad.
2. He is a downtown shooter. Throwing them up from way out like Ricky D used to do.
3. Has a high release on his shot.
4. Is 100% from 3 point range.

OK, just kidding on the last one, but man does he look like what we need. Can't find his 3 pt percentage, but a bit of googling shows that he is a terrific 3 point shooter. Also is QB on the football team.

I realize shooting isn't a priority for us, but if it were, he'd be hard to top.

Based on a breakdown of his Nike EYBL stats:

He's a high volume perimeter shooter, with almost 75% of his shot attempts coming from beyond the arc. He knocked down the three at a 42% clip in Nike EYBL. He did not shoot it very well at the Nike Elite 100 camp though.

Girard is a good catch and shoot player as you saw in the mixtape. He needs to improve his finishing around the basket where he doesn't make half of his attempts within five feet.

So if you can successfully run him off the line...

Hey Russ, great info as usual!

How much finishing around the rim would a 6'2" shooting guard do in the B1G? What I'm thinking is that we really don't have the guy who can put it in the hoop when it's kicked out from penetration.

Also, do you know if he can play D at all?

If you're going to use him as a specialist like that kid who is okay at Oklahoma State, Forte, then you don't have to worry about him getting to the basket much. But getting to the basket is a nice way to get and-1 opportunities, this kid hardly gets to the free throw line shooting threes.

I don't know anything about his defense. I watched his team play once in July, because I love their head coach Jim Hart, but the kid didn't stand out to me. In fact I'm not even sure the kid was there. I was more focused on Isaiah Stewart on City Rocks.

Yes he is------ND people IMO making more out of that than they need to.

Not the kind of kid we've had a lot of success recruiting historically.

He recently received an offer from Michigan and has a connection to Beilein. He is averaging 50 points a game as a junior. Kid can shoot.

We are not winning recruiting battles with Michigan and Notre Dinero. Find another player.

We need to open the checkbook for these guys. When will they realize weight rooms and practice courts don't mean shit. Want to play fair? Then go play in the A10. That's the players you are going to get.

Is Rutgers interested in any players from Hanover Park?

Just curious. Sat next to a family that were all wearing basketball jackets, and were being catered around it seemed.

If Beilein offered him - the kid can shoot; can play and has strong BB IQ. A Pikiell type recruit as well. Being the kid lives in Upstate NY, he has no connection to RU and the lure of a Michigan or a ND may be too much for him to pass up. If I'm Pike, I offer him the opportunity to start right away - a la Geo Baker - and the security that he is what we need - and hopefully we're closer mileage wise to ND or MIchigan so his family can see every home game.

If Pikiell can't lure in a few top 150 players RU will never get out of the B1G basement. Outrecruiting Michigan and ND isn't too much to ask. UNC, Duke, and Kansas... that's another story.
A integral part of team improvement must be winning recruiting battles against schools that have name recognition based on past and current success. You are correct that Rutgers won't get out of the B1G basement until successful recruiting of higher level talent becomes the norm.

Yup. We beat UConn for Montez Mathis and a couple of other high-majors for Shaq Carter. We need to win more battles like that and fewer where we're competing with A-10 and lower schools.

Beat out UConn, Oregon, GT, SHU, etc for Doucoure
Beat out Purdue, Wichita State, Xavier, etc for Baker
Beat out UConn, NC State, WVU, Xavier, VT, etc for Mathis
Beat out SHU, Auburn and URI for Kiss

Like everyone said, this kid is usually on the Michigan team and hits four 3 pts in a game to push the game to 6-20 Michigan.

Hopefully he ends up at Rutgers.

Saw Harper Jr has been having some good games as well. He kind of reminds me of Junior Etou with a better attitude. He bullies his opponents, and gets some rebounds as well.

This is the kind of kid we need from the outside. He has a quick release (see Rowsey from Marquette) and has great range. We haven't had a catch and shoot kid from the outside since probably Douby. That's how long it's been. Again, he would be another piece of a whole that will give Pikiell options for a team with inside and outside options. That's how you become a winner. You have consistent shooters all around so when someone has an off night, someone else can easily pick the other player up.

St. John's and Oklahoma just offered him and Mullin went up to Albany to see him a few weeks ago.

But yes Michigan has a deep connection. Beilein coached Girard's father in college, LeMoyne.

Let’s just say he was very excited to get the Michigan offer.

Of all the schools recruiting this player ,Rutgers would be at the top of the list needing a shooter/scorer.Closing the deal on such a recruit will be difficult based on perception versus the competition.Michigan will be the clear favorite based on family connections and how he fits the style Michigan plays.
