Let's go METS 2016 thread ......Just get in and anything can happen!

Every single team in this race is flawed. Any one of them can beat or be beaten on any given night. I wouldn't be shocked if the Mets miss the playoffs by 5 games or wind up with the top Wild Card spot. Just keep winning. Need another strong outing from Big Sexy tonight.

Based loaded no outs and pitcher at bat. Let him hit away?
What else is there to do?
  1. Suicide squeeze? Unusual with bases loaded and the force at home. Colon is not a good enough bunter. If he pops it up it's a DP. If he misses it, runner is out and he's still up.
  2. Safety squeeze? Not as risky, but it would take a perfect bunt to score the run. DP is still very likely.
  3. Hit away (which is what they did). You hope that if he hits it on the ground, it's to a middle infielder and the run scores. Didn't work out that way.
  4. Ask him to take three strikes on purpose? He has done it before, but not at anyone's request.

Teufel has to go.
If we are referring to the same play, that's all on Jay Bruce IMO. On a play like that, Teufel will hold off as long as possible to make the decision. The runner's job is to make the turn and them slam on the brakes if he sees the stop sign. Bruce did not do that. He gave up on the play. By the time Teufel started windmilling, Bruce had already decelerated.

With Colon up and his speed (ahem), I would take option 4. If it is Syndergaard, de Grom or Matz, who have some speed, #3. But what do I know. Colon's previous AB was a double play too. Too many wasted opportunities tonight.

Showing signs of life. Need to get deGrom and Matz back to top form to make a real run.
With Lugo and Gsellman pitching well and Ynoa coming up tomorrow, I'd probably skip Matz until he feels 100%. He's more important to the future of the organization than taking the risk of pitching him over the next week or two.

Mets make a deadline move (postseason roster deadline that is) to strengthen the pen. Acquire veteran righty reliever Fernando Salas from LA Angels. Give up a low level pitching prospect in Eric Manoah.

To make room on the 40 man, they move Justin Ruggiero to the 60 day DL. So he is done for the year.

That line is tired for mets fans 'cause they have to look at the standings and see that they are having a worse season than their big brothers from the Bronx.

Yep. September is here and the Yankees are still the best New York MLB team.
On to Baltimore.

To those who have suggested that Collins should have ordered Colon to strike out on purpose last night: This isn't a computer game. It's played by real people with real emotions, a lot of pride, and big egos. To order a player to intentionally fail is the ultimate insult. It may have happened before, but I can never recall it.

If Colon had been ordered to take three strikes, it would have been obvious and the media would have been all over it. Colon would have been publicly humiliated. You don't do that to a valued veteran. You just don't.

I invite you to name for me one manager whom you think would have given Colon that directive. (And PLEASE don't say Wally Backman. If he had ever gotten just an order in his playing days, he would have destroyed the clubhouse.)

Kbee yanks best team lol, mets are destroyed by injuries playing 3rd and 4th string players and still only 1/2 game apart. Mets will finish with better record.

Please....you know what the mets record would look like if they had to compete against Boston, Baltimore, and Toronto on a regular basis instead of Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Florida. And all of those injuries.....why are the mets the only team with significant injuries ?
Look...the mets were what is called "buyers". They went out and got Bruce in an effort to keep the Good Ship Metropolitan afloat and in the race for the playoffs. The Yankees were what is called "sellers". They ditched their best hitter, traded their two best relievers, dumped one of their starters, and showed A-Rod the door....all with an eye on the future of the team.
And yet right now on Sept. 1st the Yankees have the best record in New York MLB and are remaining in the race for the playoffs. Amazin'.

@TMCB, please don't feed the troll. Everyone else has ignored him, and the mental patient is now apparently responding to his own posts. He is a sad specimen, and should seek help.

It would be sad if it wasn't so funny.

Exaggerate much? Bartolo colon, the 300 lb. pitcher would be eviscerated in the media and his children's children's children's names would be tarnished bc he was ordered to take 3 strikes??

I don't think so...

The proper baseball play there was to bunt 'Tolo, but of course Terry is a fuggin moron.

Stop talking to that POS

The Ignore function is your friend.

With the understanding that this is a message board, and most of us are anonymous and don't know each other, I still abide by the rule that I would not post anything or behave in a way different than I would say or do in person.

His behavior is so over the top strange and obsessive, particularly his apparent quoting of himself, one could easily conclude that he is either already a mental patient or headed in that direction. And I mean that with utmost sincerity, and with the hope that he finds the help he needs.

If the mets do indeed finish with a better record than the Yankees it will only be because the Yankees finish the season with a run through the contenders in their division. Meanwhile, the mets finish with the Phillies.....7 of 10 vs. the Phillies.

Uh....I speak the same truths in person as I do on this board....been doing it for a long, long time.
You know I'm right. You just can't handle the truth.
Keep hiding.
