Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach

Jeff Towers. If that is too controversial how about a contest where we pick a poster from this board as OC? Then we can complain our OC is overpaid as opposed to under paid. Would make for a nice change of pace.

Stop at #1. Phil Longo is the answer. Jersey native, has been successful everywhere he's gone, and has some (albeit meager) HC experience that can only benefit Ash's development as a HC

Just need to outbid Ole Miss for his services

How many guys (including their HC's) on this list run the offense Ash wants?

more small time thinking..on the cheap.
again;
we play in the B10 east..the toughest division of college football..lets get a proven power five OC or ex HC with offense background to COMPETE WITH OSU,PSU,MICHIGAN,MSU.. NOT..

Still not sold that we need an FCS OC, remember its just as important that we get a good recruiter as we get a guy can run a spread well. Wins in the MEAC isn't a good sell point to the top NJ kids.

Oh you mean like dont take someone from Fordham like Penn St did?

I swear some people simply don't pay attention to the realities of college football. Maybe I'm wrong, who knows, however you're spot-on with this one.

Many of these OCs would have had some big names in their backgrounds. For example, the Washington assistant, who played at Boisie, was on a Muschamp staff.

Oh.. that's not one of the FCS ones.

But above someone mentioned Phil Longo, the Sam Houston State OC.. if you were going to try an FCS OC with no "big time" background.. he would seem to be the perfect choice. Successful NJHS coach.. Rowan grad.. head coach at La Salle. Even spent time at Minnesota-Duluth where they want a title. He's been all over NJ and PA and the midwest and now Texas... if he is a proven recruiter he could cast a wide net.

And of course, SHState does have the top offense in FCS.

My thought process on the FCS OC is this.. we can get one that has a successful offense.. proven play-caller. Many of the top OCs and head coaches in the land have a background in GCS. Think of Chip Kelly when he was at UNH. Would have been nice to snag him then.. no? If we are very smart about it.. we can find the next rising star before he gets priced out by already moving onto a P5 staff.

Can we hire a successful OC off a P5 staff? Doubt it.. most of those programs have more money than we do. Maybe in 4-5 years we can try that. What about a non-P5 FBS OC? Well, we'd be competing with other P5 programs for the successful OCs.

And its not always about money. If I were an OC candidate.. a hot commodity.. I'd make a list of what I would be looking for in a job... there are probably a lot more things to consider but here is a short list...

1) Can I be successful there? (recruit base, current talent, time to get things done, patience of fans, HC, AD, etc)
2) Can I work for the HC and learn to be a HC
3) What are living conditions like for my family
4) Money (and the value of that money... $1M in NJ doesn't go as far as $1M in Georgia)

So, thinking FCS is the answer.. or a valid option.. is not refusing to compete for top talent.. it is trying to get around some of issues we face when competing for talent.

Schematically, Stitt fits like a glove.

However, I think Ash is looking for someone who isn't so distant in terms of degrees of separation.

I also think he believes in Urban's philosophy in hiring younger guys who are hungry and will bust their tails to move up the coaching ladder. Stitt doesn't fit that description.

Personally, I'd be thrilled to see what he can do with our Mexicaly Soup roster.

The OC at Kennesaw is Grant Chestnut

A Georgia native.. if we can recruit Georgia I could see that. Fertile ground there. I do not think we should run a triple option. Having option elements.. maybe.. but we'll see if Ash was convinced of the flex-option system or if he is open to anything else...
Rutgers willl never recruit Georgia. National brand teams like Notre Dame, Stanford, OSU, Michigan etc have a hard time getting kids. They do land them every so often but this is SEC country and Rutgers would never be successful here. Trust me I've lived there.

I dunno.. in this age of conference reputations meaning something.. if OSU wins the still-mythical-national-championship.. the Big Tem will have "stain".. BIGLY!
