No. 11 Rutgers wrestling closes the regular season against Penn on Wednesday at Jersey Mike's Arena

This will be a very close match as Penn is very very good. We have to have our best effort to win this
Wow didn’t realize Penn was this good this year.. they are favored in 4 matches..5 if Peterson doesn’t go… and 184 is basically a coinflip..

Wrestlestat algorithm gives Penn a 16-15 win with a 5-5 bout split. This includes #20 Max Gallagher beating #7 Dean Peterson and #39 Max Hale over #27 SCW. Also, #14 Joey Olivieri over #11 CJ Composto.

I see Rutgers winning 125, 133, 141, 165, 184, 197, and HWT, assuming all of our starters go. Let's say then 24-9 RU win.

125- Peterson decision
133- Shawver decision (Miller from Blair is solid)
141- Composto decision (Olivieri can win this one but he couldn’t generate offense on his feet in the last match in the SV loss)
149- Wasileski decision (Another winnable match, but Clark had a tough time in scrambles & defending his legs from neutral)
157- Toss up. Swisher from Penn is good but beatable plus I imagine there is some PA familiarity. Edge probably to Swisher due to extra year in college.
165- Barbosa decision if he wrestles
174- Incontrera decision (Big strong kid & bad matchup for Turley; (hope Turley throws him on his back and holds on for the win)
184- SCW Decision SCW hasn’t looked great the last few matches, sloppy on his feet, but he needs to win this toss up
197- Poz bonus
285 Yara- Need bonus

If RU wrestles like they did against OSU & Illinois RU wins.

I'd be surprised if Barbosa goes as that would burn his redshirt.

If he was unattached at Midlands he still has 1 date remaining. The odd thing is that not 1 wrestler in the whole tournament at Midlands is listed unattached on the track brackets. Not sure what's with that but some guys were definitely unattached. That could be a problem for some down the road since the OPC on track is the where the official results are entered

If either Peterson or Shawver loses, I think Barbosa has to go if you're right about his RS eligibility. Shawver should have the tougher match of the two.

Trying to figure out now if he was unattached or not . Barbosa is listed in the probables which makes me think maybe he was unattached at Midlands. White will beat the Penn kid he's 6-10 on the year

Midlands doesn't allow unattached guys anymore. So Barbosa is out of dates. If he goes tonight his RS will be pulled. I think we see White

Senior night. Don’t be surprised if guys like Cetta or DeSantis draw in. Not sure who weighed in.

What a poor decision by Dean at the end there.. he has way too many WTF loses when he just stops wrestling offensively. That could also be a very critical match that determines the dual unfortunately.

Peterson was the better wrestler the whole way. Split second away from a take down at the end of the 2nd and then takes a shot for no reason late when a stall point wouldn’t have hurt him. Poor awareness.

Composto is good man. Shame he missed his senior year of high school because he could have been a state champ. The one year Olivieri didn’t win a state title, the top 4 at his weight was Sammy Alvarez, Robby Howard, CJ Composto, and Joey Olivieri. Loaded bracket.

It always seems like our kids don’t have the gas tank they need to go hard for 7 mins…or more.

Feels like other teams are always in better shape.

Better shape and stronger. This is not a good performance for a home meet. We look gassed, less aggressive, and weaker
