No. 11 Rutgers wrestling closes the regular season against Penn on Wednesday at Jersey Mike's Arena

I put in MSU thread after that match it was most likely it. Have a good buddy who knows Poz from Colonia and said he is done. It will be Casale for B10s 80-90% unless there is some huge change in his mind and health.

Kind of wish Soldano didnt do medical. Would be a nice fill in there. Small but dynamic and more skilled then a lot of those guys.

Damn that’s a shame wit Poz…. Did he say is done bc of the inj or just fell out of love with the sport or something else? Dang…

Dont know all specifics but get sense more injury and not being in right mental space to compete
It’s a sport where if you’re not 100% in then you’re 100% out. People point to the Brooks match years ago when Poz started to decline. Probably the realization that despite being a 4th place finisher and AA, the distance between that and 1st is insane.

At the end of the day he had a nice career and probably the best freshman season in Rutgers history. Hope he’s successful wherever he ends up after this.

Yeah sounds like its a combination of injuries and losing interest in the grind of the sport.

Man, I have to say, this is some of the worst grousing and whining that I have ever seen on a dual thread here. The team went 6-4 in bouts and won the dual. I predicted a 7-3 bout split not imagining a Peterson loss. Yes, Peterson didn't look good and had a wtf moment at the end when he should have taken his escape to tie it up instead of trying to force the reversal. Anyone know why he didn't wrestle against MSU? He was sick. Think that might have affected him tonight? Think other guys might have had the flu too?

I was at the dual. Penn wrestled hard. They wrestled really well and were urging their guys on. They looked like they wanted it more. After the break, RU came out and got the job done. The team was fired up and so was the crowd. Guess what? Penn is a very good team. They are not "unranked" as someone earlier posted. They are #27 in the coaches's poll and #25 on Intermat. They are now 10-6 with 4 losses to ranked teams (SDSU, Lehigh, Cornell, and Rutgers).

Oh, and hats off to Jackson Turley. What a great performance in a huge spot on Senior Night. No dual win without his big upset.

Remembering that Brooks match and he was undefeated off an AA year. Could imagine the pressure he was putting on himself to then lose by MD. Then went on to some WTF losses and lackluster results. Love Poz and all he gave to us and our fans had "possible champion" label on him after freshman year. Wish he could have wrestled senior night as he deserves to go out 100%.

I don’t even think that label was unreasonable either. He was neck and neck with Keckeisen who became a national champ.

It was also a very limited year match wise and he had zero expectations. Poz was 3-1 heading into big 10s and had loss to Webster MN. Some people handle pressure and expectations differently. Keck eats it up and is a relentless worker and is one of the best guys in college now . His trajectory is no surprise to anyone who followed him coming into college. So that's probably not the best comparison.

A few thoughts: Dean had it in the bag. I get he had a stalling call on him, but he was at too aggressive with the lead and a cushion. Hopefully he learned from it. Dean and Shawver gassed after basically one period of easier type wrestling. Sick? Sucking weight? Joey and Clark. Good efforts and close but no cigar. Lack of takedowns hurt them. Harer losing by major was a surprise to me. He didnt look right. 3-13 at the break?? WTH?! I thought RU was cooked for the night but thankfully, the upper weights got the job done. White pulled one out. Turley was a beast during the match of the night. SCW workman like win. Sorry to hear about Poz, but it's very obvious he's not in a good place. I'm really happy for Casale. He go the win and was pumped! Love to see the fire and passion running off the mat. Slava, expected but closer than I thought it would be. Maybe because bonus points weren't needed. The refs and their stall calls, what the hell? Some deserved against RU but many very questionable while Penn didnt get enough. Was it Slava 90 degrees working the arm bar with Penn flat on his stomach and Slava got banged for stalling. That was the worst one. Congrats to the team on a very nice duel season. To the seniors, thanks for the hard work and dedication given to the program and your last night on a Rutgers mat in front of us. Now on to the B1Gs..

Neck and Neck with Hidlay too. If I recall correctly Poz got robbed that match.
He did , Hidley backed straight to the edge the second the ref said wrestle the entire 3rd period , literally first move was 3 steps backwards every time I vividly remember screaming at the tv , unfortunately they decided to let Hidley do that in every big match he wrestled for the rest of his career

I agree it was a weird year. Turley had his AA run the same year and it created unfair expectations moving forward. Olympic redshirts took and no ivy created a ton of opportunities for guys who would otherwise be R12 and R16 guys.

This just makes it sound like Turley and Poz were really R12-R16 caliber all along but lucked out to AA in a weird year…

Still doesn’t explain all the close matches Poz had that year and how now the gap between his peers then to now has gotten so big. Like wrestling is a tough sport it’s ok to admit when a wrestler regressed, for w.e reason, rather then blaming unfair expectations..

I never understand why so may post whenever a Rutgers or player has success, they refer to it as luck.

Happy for the win. The biggest issue the entire night was the inability to finish takedowns. It was the difference at 141 & 149 (both were in on deep shots but couldn’t convert) but also saw it at 165 & 184 (SCW did finish his first legitimate shot quickly). The 2nd issue was hanging on for the win/gas tank/poor strategy. Turley and SCW ran away from their guys at the end of their matches. Gas tank/lack off confidence in his gas tank seemed to be the issue for Turley . For SCW it was bad strategy to shut down his offense so early in the 3rd period.

They were. That doesn’t matter though. At the end of the day they were all Americans.
U are not a R12-R16 caliber wrestler beating guys like Nelson Brands, Deprez and having really tight match with Hidlay/Keckeisen.. Poz wrestled at a higher lvl his freshman year what don’t u get? Wonder what a match with Poz vs Keckeisen would look like today…. Surely not the same 5-4 score back then.

When I ran road races competitively back a few moons ago, I'd have a subpar race but typically finish at the top ar near in my age group on a day when the competition wasn't great I'd lament and tell my running mentor about my pedestrian success. His response was 'you beat whoever showed up. Plenty of people were home doing nothing. You beat them all." That rings in my ear to this day. Pos and Turley are All Americans.

I tried to be tactful and skirted the TD issue as much as I could. It's a problem and will limit success. The ability to create shots is rare for some. To finish was near impossible even with those deep shots. I sat with my daughter and explained the improbable chances of finishing DEEEEP singles, and she said "Yeah Dad, I know".

Absolutely. Doesn’t matter who they faced, they don’t control the bracket. You wrestle who is in front of you.
