No. 22 Rutgers Wrestling Set for 2023 Big Ten Championships

Yeah looks he smacked his nose/face pretty damn hard. I’m guessing a broken nose. Smart move is to let it heal at this point.
That was quite a bit of blood on the mat, I think he broke his friggin nose as well.

Damn … just not RU’s year in anything except Men’s Soccer (who got screwed and crapped the bed in the first round).

Tough day but Peterson and Heilman place, 7/8th. Clark battled and wrestled Lewan tough as heck. Turley - that was the best match i have seen him wrestle since he AA-ed.(hope he sneaks into NCAA bc he is rounding into form). BS could possibly place 3/4 and Boone was in position to win that match Awful start but made some hay in the conseys

Turley needs to beat Washington(Indiana) who he lost to 14-5 in the dual or he's staying home. 174 only has 7 allocations and he doesn't have the record for an at-large

I see Clark is wrestling for 11th, but did not see Oliveri. Did he get a forfeit and I missed it or is he done?

Kannaird gets a rematch with Buell.

This time he hangs on and wins 12-8. After having an 8-1 lead and over 1:30 of riding time.

A tale of two kanniards. Looks so different this match w buell.
Almost spoke too soon… he has a very difficult time closing out matches.

He was running away with this match and then gave up backs in neutral danger, gets stuck on bottom almost all 3rd, gives up 4 backs, but thankfully got the reversal to seal it.

Yup, should have waited. But that's exactly what I talked about earlier. Kanniard has these spurts where he can look really good and other times not as much. Just needs to figure out how to put together a full friggen match. Hope he wrestles back well to 9th.

Well, with lowered expectations now becoming what we can expect, we worked our way out of last into 11th after the 2nd session. Yay, I guess!

Seems about right for this years squad based on their performance thus far. Let's hope that at least one of the guys going to nationals can find a way to obtain AA status. I don't think we can reasonably expect more than that.

B1G Championships Session II: Four Punch NCAA Tickets, 10 Alive for Automatic Bids

after an up and down session on the mat and off (on this board), the article title made me laugh...as it reads, a reader would think we have 14 wrestlers. Should read: 4 punch ncaa tickets, 6 still alive for automatic bids.

I said last night I think there are 4 or 5 guys who can do it. Obviously they all won’t and the multi AA streak were on is in serious jeopardy, but if I told you any one of Peterson, Heilman, Olivieri, Soldano, or Boone will AA would you be stunned?

All it takes is a friendly draw where some non big 10 guys get over seeded and the wrestleback matchups play in favor. All 5 of these guys have the talent to do it.

Ken Theobold and Scott Delvecchio are a few others who developed into All Americans. Guys like Nick Gravina, John VanBrill, and Billy Smith were blood round guys who missed AA by the slimmest of margins. We certainly need to get back to that type of development cadence.

I am curious to know this- how many of the people being critical contribute financially to the program or the SKWC? New Jersey is a great wrestling state and it takes $$$ to compete with programs that have RTCs with endowments that make our $700k look like pocket change. Check out NLWC, Hawkeye, Cliff Keen and look at their rosters of resident athletes. Those guys are not at those clubs because they like the local weather.

it is easy to blame the coaches for everything and they have the most impact on the program but the daily operation of a B1G wrestling program, recruiting, and retention of athletes is a lot more complicated than many may think.

I will always cheer for our guys and want the best for them. Yes, I have contributed to the SKWC and Rutgers wrestling on the annual day of giving. I don't have big bucks. But, I give.

I don't believe the issue is money. I checked out the other clubs and with the exception of Penn State, Iowa, Iowa State, and Michigan we are at the top of the pack.

Schools like Nebraska, NC State and Missouri make the top 10 and top 5 with less money and without a fertile recruiting base,

Two of Nebraska's best kids live within a 45 minute drive of our campus. NC State has starters from Conn., Penna (3), Nebraska, Michigan, and their heavyweight went to Blair Academy. Missouri has kids from Illinois, Oregon, Wisconsin, and Ohio. Yes we have starters from other states. But, how successful have they been? Our only out of state All Americans have been Bulsak (8th) and Turley (8th).

I believe the coaches are good people and try really hard. We have landed big name recruits. Many of them have not lived up to their clippings. I think the issue may be recruiting the right type of kid and developing more of them. We seem to recruit a number of high ranked kids that have known concerns. I hope that the fact that we have not seen Casale at all this year doesn't related to off the mat issues. Lehigh pulled his scholarship and rumor has it that he was asked to leave Delbarton. We have developed some unexpected All Americans (Perrotti twice 8th and Theobold 7th)) but not at the level our competitors have.

For many reasons, I don't think the issue is money.

If Oliveri wins his next match against Kal Miller (UMD), who he beat during the dual 2-1, he will finish 9th and earn an NCAA tournament bid

Oh come on they gave the kid injury time while Clark was going for the takedown. That has to be two.

Jesus the ref.
let the Nebraska kid belly out the whole period.

We’ll see which Kannaird we get it’s a flip of the coin at this point
