NYC Logistics

Alright, we're leaving from Michigan in the early hours of Thursday, October 6th to begin our trek through the worst state in the country (Ohio), through the land of enablers (Pennsylvania) into New Jersey.

Our current plans include stopping at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH and eventually arriving at our hotel is Iselin, NJ around midnight. Then we have tickets to visit and ascend the Statue of Liberty at 11am on Friday. F̶r̶o̶m̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶(̶I̶'̶m̶ ̶a̶s̶s̶u̶m̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶a̶r̶o̶u̶n̶d̶ ̶1̶-̶2̶p̶m̶)̶ ̶w̶e̶ ̶w̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶p̶l̶a̶n̶n̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶o̶n̶ ̶d̶r̶i̶v̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶o̶v̶e̶r̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶C̶o̶n̶e̶y̶ ̶I̶s̶l̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶h̶a̶n̶g̶ ̶o̶u̶t̶ ̶a̶ ̶b̶i̶t̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶f̶i̶n̶d̶ ̶a̶ ̶p̶l̶a̶c̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶d̶i̶t̶c̶h̶ ̶o̶u̶r̶ ̶c̶a̶r̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶t̶a̶k̶e̶ ̶a̶ ̶t̶a̶x̶i̶/̶U̶b̶e̶r̶ ̶i̶n̶t̶o̶ ̶N̶Y̶C̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶s̶p̶e̶c̶i̶f̶i̶c̶a̶l̶l̶y̶ ̶T̶i̶m̶e̶s̶ ̶S̶q̶u̶a̶r̶e̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶b̶a̶s̶i̶c̶a̶l̶l̶y̶ ̶s̶p̶e̶n̶d̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶r̶e̶s̶t̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶d̶a̶y̶ ̶w̶a̶l̶k̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶a̶r̶o̶u̶n̶d̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶c̶i̶t̶y̶.̶

So, as someone who has never been east of Niagra Falls is this even possible (̶f̶i̶n̶d̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶s̶o̶m̶e̶w̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶s̶a̶f̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶p̶a̶r̶k̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶C̶o̶n̶e̶y̶ ̶I̶s̶l̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶h̶o̶u̶r̶s̶)̶ or is there a better way about this in general? We're going to the Statue of Liberty from the NJ side if that helps. Also, what are some must see/do things in the Times Square/NYC area within walking or subway distance? I know there's plenty of threads on things to do around New Brunswick and RU but never really seen anything about NYC. So any help would be appreciated.

As for game day we were wanting to go to a boardwalk in the early afternoon.. Is any worth a visit in early October with enough things to do?) before heading to High Point and RU a few hours before kickoff. As for post game, we're high tailing it to our rest stop for the night near Philly. The Lions coincidentally play in Philadelphia that Sunday but they suck so I'll just take being able to listen on the radio on the way home.
The vendors etc are closed. If you just want to walk on a boardwalk, Spring Lake/Seagert is very nice. Personally, I prefer Sandy Hook, great scenery and an old light house. In NYC there is the Highline or the Brooklyn Promenade.

Of the two, I am more partial to Spring Lake but my Mom will disagree and say, "Sea Girt is just as nice!" Scenery is pretty good in both and the Sea Girt one has a lighthouse too.

I find the land view nicer in the former and you get to see the barbarian gate at the Belmar end.

Bring lots of $$$$$ if you are going to drive and park in NYC on a weekday.
My son-in-law from Pennsyltucky thought they were kidding when he was asked for the toll money
to go through the Holland Tunnel

No to Coney Island
If considering a Broadway show go to the TKT place at Times Square 47th and Broadway...orchestra seats about $75 each

At some point the Michigan guy mentioned liking the idea or an amusement park as well as going to NYC. Well you can combine both of those just drive into Manhatan and flip off every cabbie you see and race them around the city. It's like a roller coaster without all of the safety.

BTW, if our visitor is still checking in...I know I recommended passing on Times Square a couple days ago but was walking through it today and thought it's worth mentioning that the area is a disaster right now because of a ton of construction around Broadway. Huge sections of concrete being ripped up, barriers at every corner, etc. As much as I hate having to deal with it, I can understand tourists wanting to walk around...but in its current form I can't imagine it being very fun even for you guys.
