You are so wrong. And you are completely rewriting history. Tim was a great guy in person, yes, I met him a number of times. But working with him was a different story. He drove away many band members, and also drove away his talented assistants. He alienated just about everybody in the Rutgers Alumni Band. What saved his job was that he would do anything Schiano asked of him. Anything, even to the detriment of the band. Again, this led to both band members and assistants quitting.

Part of it is that we pay nothing for the position. Historically the position wasn't even faculty, not sure if it is now. That's why in the late 80's and the 90's we'd have band directors come in, get a solid couple of years under their belt, then get poached by another school willing to pay a lot more for a good band director. Michigan State, WVU, etc. hired our band directors away.
