OT: 2023 NJ HS Football Season

Week 7 Playoff seedings are out on the Gridiron NJ site. Some interesting notes:
- 2-4 RFH is the top seed in South 2
2-4 Raritan is 13 seed
2-5 Delian is 15 seed
Seeds 16-20 are 500 or better.

- 6-0 Weequahic, who has outscored their opponents 357-0 is 7 seed in North 1

-North 2 (Westwood, Caldwell, Rutherford, Hanover Park as 5 Top seeds looking better as season continues.

-I’m guessing @kyk1827 still says North 3 is still Old Tappans to lose, esp with Lincoln smacked by UC, West Morris at 3-4,

-Some good teams coming out of North 4 (Roxbury, Northern Highlands, Ramapo, Mt Olive)

-Not many teams out of North 5. But UC, Phillipsburg, Passaic Tech should represent well.

- Things might not look good for South 1 when they play the North at MetLife

- Camden, Delsea, Timber Creek looking good in South 3

- Winslow, Millville getting right at the right time in South 4. 5-1 Jackson might have explaining to do with their activities in their loss to Marlboro. I also like 7-0 Mainland but their soft schedule might hurt them.

- South 5 isn’t as loaded as the North.

My picks from the north after 6 weeks

Group 1: Weequhaic. This is the toughest bracket in NJ
Group 2: Westwood
Group 3: Old Tappan (still not a close 2nd)
Group 4: i gotta go roxbury but dont count out northern highlands
Group 5: union city

QUESTION OF THE DAY:
Should this Weequahic HS Defensive player have slid to the ground after this interception or this fumble return for a TD is ok?

Take a knee on a scoop n score in the 3rd quarter? Should the offense have just taken 3 knees on every drive for the entire 4th quarter? Silly question
Totally agree with you. Reason I asked is that there’s a group of HS alumni up 280 in Essex County who are incensedly livid at Weequahic HS out scoring their opponents 357-0 this year, saying that they “should not be scoring 70 points a game vs a weak schedule.”

The question I have is how many kids are on the team. If you have a roster of 50-60 and don't have the starters on the bench after the half I have a problem. If the roster of 35 it's a different story.

Looks like 30 on the sidelines on a screenshot from the above IG video. Kinda borderline with what you said. But do they take a knee or slide in bounds on a defensive play like this? Or defensive plays get a pass?

What school?

Newark schools are crazy year to year. For all we know, the kids all pile into central next year and leave weequahic. The kids move schools like I change my underwear.

I played weequahic 3X in high school, my soph year they had a really good team with adonis thomas (toledo rb) and amara kamara (temple Lb) we beat them 21-7 for their only loss of the year. Then junior and senior year we whooped em by a combined 76-6. We then faced the same kids in basketball playing for a different school a season later. Like 3-4 years after high school their qb got murdered, was a very sad situation.

Shabazz and Weequahic has been consistent for at least the last 10 years. Only reason Shabazz struggled was because their head coach was one of the worst coaches that they could’ve chosen for that job at the time. At least they’re kind of back with Nasir Oliver as the head coach.

But Weequahic… Pound the Round on offense and Pound some heads on defense. They always been a tough team all these years with Brian Logan as their coach. West Side get some good years but that’s a rough spot to Coach, as is Central. And have to see how East Side do if they get out of the Ivy and go back to regular ball. Only football they usually good at is Futbol.

THE STREAK IS OVER FOR WEEQUAHIC.

They defeated Newark West Side tonight…

57-2.

They have outscored their 2024 opponents 414-2.

Looks like one of the 3 remaining undefeated Shore Conference teams Marlboro will go down.We are at the Rumson Fair Haven game, RFH 17-0 halftime

3 RU commits in this game. The more I watch Surace, the more I like.

Not NJ HS Football related but a couple of notes from this Monsignor Farrell 27-21 win over St Anthony’s:

Rutgers recruit KJ Duff had 6 catches, 116 yards, 2 TD.

Monsignor Farrell Senior LB Mikai Gamble had his second Pick 6 of the season. and is having a great season.

MFHS Junior RB Nafis Muhammad ran the ball 33-270, 2 TD, along with 2 catches for 53 yards.

Bosco positioning themselves for a better seeding as they beat Seton Hall Prep.

Weequahic’s crazy season continues.

Their defense will finally be tested next week when they play Immaculatta.

Shore vs Holmdel for us tonight. I'm not thinking Middletown South will be able to hang with Donovan unless the weather helps.
