I think I know the answer. If you put Winker in the DH spot and he comes up later and they have a lefty you have no other right handed bays to switch back to. You're not gonna go Acuna because they had been saving him as a late inning defensive replacement.
I’d still take that over JD

Please watch Lindor run the bases after the Grand Slam. No bat flip, no gestures, not even a smile. Then see his interview after the game. Basically said it was about the players getting on base in front of him. I owe the man a huge apology. The way he started the season, Thought it was over. It was Lindor who called the team meeting to turn everything around. ( with a little help from Grimace). Ohtani will get the MVP but Lindor is my MVP.

I think if his HR has been a 9th inning walk off, his reaction would have been much different. He didn't celebrate because it was not the time to celebrate. There was more work to do.

Agree but not diminishing that he was a pro running the bases on his GS- a walk off at home to win a playoff series- he would deserve to do anything he wants- but I love the head down and run around even more- that, in itself, is intimidating.

BTW- Peterson- dude has been so damn good. Who had all those expanded pitching stats on him that basically said he sucks and will always suck?

LOL

Didn’t Peterson saved the pitching staff this year?

Peterson
Butto
Winker
Bader
Taylor
Iggy
Torens

Yes we have the Superstars, Lindor and Pete, but these players among others deserve just as much credit. Add in watching Vientos grow into a beast. Sevi, Q, and Sean M turn around their seasons/careers. Of yeah then their is Sugar Diaz.

This is old school baseball. Not many superstars bunch of lunch pail guys. You can tell these players just love the game, playing with each other and of course their manager.

It really is a great build- Stearns did magic and I wasn’t happy with him to start the year.

But, most winning teams really are about their bench.
We find a way to bitch about everyone but even if we swap a couple of hitters in the lineup each night- there are no automatic outs. And most of the lighter hitting guys- are straight up too defenders.

This is a fun team to watch.

Will Mendoza earn Manager of the Year or will that go to Roberts or the SD Manager?

Nick Castellanos said, "The Mets are not better than them. We've been the best team all year." Philly started the season hot, but struggled the last two months. Meanwhile, the Mets struggled early, but were the best team in the MLB since June. Also, NBC Sports Philadelphia talk so much trash. No one is good except the Phillies. The Mets basically stink.

The DH is half-a-player. That's like giving a punter the MVP for averaging over 60 yards a punt. It's never been done before, so you celebrate it as if it's the greatest accomplishment ever in the game. Never mind the RB who rushed for 1,400 yards and 16 TD to go along with 800 yards receiving and 6 TD. That's how I see Ohtani and Lindor.

It's the Edgar Martinez HOF discussion all over again.

Can't help but wonder what Jorge Lopez thinks of this team.
Before Lopez threw his tantrum and became persona non grata, he had two saves. We needed them both. One would not have sufficed. We thank him for his service.

Mets used 59 players this year. That sounds like a lot, and it is, but it doesn't come close to the Marlins who used 70 this year, setting an MLB record. The Mets players ranged from Pete Alonso, who played 162 games, to Joe Hudson, who played one inning. We honor them all, and thank them all for their service.

And yes, I AM into participation trophies.

I think it goes to Pat Murphy in Milwaukee. Everyone thought the Brewskis would take a step back when they lost Craig Counsell. Didn't happen. Remember, the award like all awards is based on regular season only.

6 seed was the path for the NLCS - not a doubt in my mind. Now tell me who to root for. Offense - edge LA, Pitching - edge SD. With Musgrove, I’d want no part of SD, but now not so sure. Open to a nudge in right direction 😎

I still want no part of SD.

Hard to believe that on Opening Day, Joey Wendle and Zach Short were on the Mets roster, and Mark Vientos and Jose Iglesias were not.

VIentos made his 2024 Mets debut in late April as a three day bereavement fill-in. He came off the bench as a late sub and hit an 11th inning walk off HR. Was sent back down two days later.

At least Vientos was on the radar screen. Iglesias' story is hard to believe. In 2022, he had a solid year as a semi-regular for the Rockies, hitting .292 in 467 AB's. Despite that, the best he could do in 2023 was a minor league contract with the Marlins, was released, signed another minor league contract with the Padres, and was released again. (In fairness, the releases may have been player opt-outs, those are common with veterans on minor league contracts.) Anyway, he was a free agent in June 2023 AND COULDN'T EVEN GET A MINOR LEAGUE JOB! He was unemployed for most of last year. What a comeback!

Jeff McNeil is on his way to Arizona. He will play for the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League on Friday and Saturday. The Mets will need to make a decision on him on Sunday. Will be interesting.

My guess is that the Mets will activate him and deactivate a pitcher, probably either Ottavino or Danny Young. When you have a fully rested staff playing seven games in nine days, you really don't need that 13th pitcher.

Back from Citifield for the 2nd straight night !

As Kool and the Gang said “ Celebrate Good Times “. !

Whatta night !

Bedlam when Lindor hit the grand slam and Bedlam when Diaz struck out Schwarber !

The crowd was ready to erupt so many times during the game however situational hitting was poor until the Lindor grand slam!

Have no idea why Diaz started the 9th instead of Peterson and thank goodness for nitroglycerin pills!

And I hate the Phillies ; their fans and the city ! So rewarding to win this series !

These past 10 days or so - let alone the past few months - have been a Hollywood Movie Script !

Let’s GO Mets !
