The Yankees lack of length in their lineup makes it amazing they're still tied with the most wins in baseball. They don't have a swing and miss closer either. The Mets length in their lineup is far superior which makes it amazing that the record isn't even close to the Yankees. Just a shade under the 1/2 way point in the season and I'd take 5 maybe 6 Mets position players over the Yankees. Judge and Soto are both in the top 3 in all of baseball, something the Mets don't come close to and that's the difference.

Alvarez has been injured most of the year and the Vientos/Baty exchange totally changed that spot. Lindo/Nimmo/Alonso finally hitting as expected as well. Plus Senga the ace has been out all year. Explains a ~500 record for the Mets.

I'd love for this to be gospel true. But the Mets lineup, including many of the hitters in it now, stunk for weeks and weeks. They're hot now. There is still a question as to whether this lineup continues to hit this way, if not as hot as they are now, at least as a formidable group. We'll see.

The Yankees? Yes, they've always been a bit of a top-heavy lineup, and it's accentuated more with Stanton out. But when healthy, it's a crazy talented top. I love watching Soto hit. He treats every pitch as a battle.

Your comment brings to mind the comment of former Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, when he was asked to define pornography. He responded that he couldn't exactly define it, but he knew it when he saw it.

Apparently the umps knew it when they saw it.

Again, they are supposedly trained on how to tell the difference, even if the line between the two is not bright and wide.
Actually, it was Justice Potter Stewart.

I'm actually surprised there hasn't already been a deluge of Yankees comments arguing that a Mets fan could be so wrong on which team has more length to its lineup. Please no excuses about Stanton being injured as he's been a whipping boy for the entire length of his contract and the usual suspects were already predicting a IL stay for a good part of the season.

Gleeful that Garrett came thru at end of game last night.

But what was he thinking throwing a fastball over the middle of the plate on 0-2 to Judge.

My game plan Vs Yankees : don’t give anything good for Soto or Judge to hit. Let the other 7 guys beat you - not Judge or Soto.

It almost can't. Much like it almost couldn't stay as bad as it was early.

But this hot hitting stretch has them as the hottest team in baseball. Cool it down to reasonable levels and this should still be at least a decent team that is in the playoff mix.

Mets' had 6 guys in the lineup last night that had an OPS somewhere between .750 and .930.

And last night McNeil, who is not one of those 6, had a couple hits, and scored a couple runs. Would be nice if he can set up the top of the lineup from the bottom of the lineup.

Ya Alvarez, Vientos and Martinez all over .800 ops, with Vientos topping the list at .925. While Lindor, Alonso, and Nimmo were the locks in the lineup, these new guys contributing along with those fixtures has transformed the lineup.

BTW- off subject, but as good as the Braves still are- did Ozuna decide not to share the juice this year? What a drop of power numbers across the board...

They just all had career years all at once last season. The beauty of it is that they still lost in the playoffs. I just hope the same fate awaits the Philthies this season.

Smith got hurt cause he didn’t warm up long enough after Diaz ejection.
He said he should’ve taken longer
