OT: 2024 NY Yankees Season Thread

BTW - in case anyone even cares, RU is already getting f'ed up by USC. So no need to bother with that game.

Heartbreaker for the local team, but it is Game 1.

Curiosity question from an outsider. I know it isn’t in his history, but has there been any discussion of Cole attempting Games 1, 4, and 7 starts on short rest?

I think they already announced Cole for just games 1 and 5. Multiple starts on 3-days rest may not be a thing anymore with modern baseball.

So many blunders:

-Verdugo throwing from the stands after an amazing catch automatically awarded runners second and third (I didn’t know the rule but he should have)
-Cabrera botching a little league grounder
-Torres backhand gaffe plus the other knuckleheads that were not covering the infield (Khanle backing up 3rd; Rizzo twiddling thumbs at first)
-Cortes? That one is 100% on Boone
-even Rizzo’s base-running may have cost the Yankees an out although hard to say if he would have been safe if he hustled

The Gleyber botch was the biggest one of all. Need to find a way to replace him next year. Hopefully a kid is ready to take over.

Boone put all of his cards out on the table and was left with Cortes. I think this loss is on the offense as much as that move. We need to score more with runners on base. As of the 8th inning, we had more hits than the Dodgers. Need to score those runners.

Perhaps MLB shouldn't allow their stadiums to have fans to be able to lean over walls to interfere with live plays? It's ridiculous that this is still a think in the year 2024.

It's only one game but if Judge doesn't wake up, we're not winning this series.

^^^^All excellent observations!

Plus taking Cole out after 88 pitches

Has an MVP award even been given out after game 1 because the way the announcers were gushing over Otani unless he drops dead he's going to win no matter what he does.

So is it true that the Freeman and Gibson homers occurred at the same time PST 36 years apart? If so, the Yankees are done. 😂

Not so fast!

In the last three Yankees-Dodgers World Series (1977, 1978, 1981) the home team won the first two games and the opponent won the next four games.
And I heard on BT today that the Yanks lost the first game in 2009, 6-1. None of it means much - just thought the homer thing was a crazy coincidence.

If only Yankee pitchers could stop this madness so we don’t have to see that embarrassing wave dance thing the Dodgers do after every hit.

Mookie Betts stats against nester = 0-5 4 K’s…..so they walked him to get to Freeman…

…and Freeman is 9-14 against lefties with bases loaded with 4 GS…

I only watch playoff baseball but Yanks kill the joy.
Judge has yips or something - maybe a Caribbean Met fan put a chicken bone curse on him.
