OT: 2024 PGA Championship

Wow I didn't know there was so many Scotty Scheffler haters on this board! They must be pissed he is playing well today!
Not a hater, impressed with his golfing skills, but those skills shouldn't give him the right to ignore the directions that a police officer gives him and automatically take his lawyers version of the incident.
I wonder if it was ne of the courses workers that was arrested would you claim this board has a lot of landscaper haters .
Or is just the rich and famous that deserve to outrank the police

How about we let the process run its course. No one here was there when it happened. Everyone is just making assumptions/commenting based on media reports. We know how that goes.

What do you know about what really happened? Nothing but you are already saying he is lying.

I said I'd go my what the police report said, not his lawyer's explanation .
Since you don't know, you can't say the lawyer's version is true and the police officer is lying.
When in doubt, remember a defense attorney's job is to make his client look innocent , not make statements that will help convict him.

It's not the lawyer's view, it's Scotty's statement released by the lawyer.

Well then one of them ( Police officer or Scotty is lying and I'll go by what the police officer said.
Many times someone does something wrong and looks for an excuse for doing it.
Not saying the police are always right, but they deserve the benefit of doubt in situations like this until the case is settled and the truth comes out proving them right or wrong.

Morikawa playing well today. Will be interesting to see how the afternoon groups do. Course is nice and soft for low scores.

I'm gonna make the call now, there is absolutely no way the police report as it stands now is accurate.

Scottie didn't wake up this morning and decide to go full NWA. How much you wanna bet the bodycam footage ends up being "lost" or "malfunctioned".

So let’s ALL understand this. You have seen actual proof that Scotty S. did deliberately and with intent disobeyed the initial officer who waved him forward and somehow could clearly hear the 2nd officer ‘s command? No you can’t . All the excuses you will attempt to put forward here are just what fools do when they have less than actual awareness of the legal system. I could be wrong but he has shown no tendencies to lose his mind. In daily sports life . In his personal life . Throughout his early life from childhood. So what’s your take on P Diddy… nice guy👍🏻

Chris Gotterup shot Even Par today just missing a shot from a trap for Eagle on 18. He won't make the cut with +3 for the 36 Holes.

Scottie probably made an innocent mistake but to say he shouldn't be held accountable might be wrong according to what this reporter said :
>According to ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington, who witnessed the incident, Scheffler was trying to drive around the crash scene on a median. A police officer instructed Scheffler to stop, but Scheffler continued to drive about 10 to 20 yards toward the entrance.<

As for the legal system, ( my opinion) it will be Scottie admitting he made a mistake because he was confused and plead guilty to careless driving paying a fine.

Never said he shouldn’t held accountable? If he’s guilty then he will pay a fine and make whole the cop with monetary restitution. But you already were sounding as though he was tried and found guilty. The defendant’s claim is he was waived to go around the old incident from earlier. From what we saw reported this afternoon he was “ waved “ by another officer to go around. Why would he admit to something which he claims A) didn’t hear cop # 2 B ) the officer made a mistake grabbing hold of the car door handle while moving. You say 10-20 yards ? Most reports mention much less… like in feet . C) it comes down to 2 cops one waving him on … the other shouting at him with the car radio playing. He’ll not be punished severely. Doesn’t deserve that.

Does it seem odd that the value e of the officers pants are included in the report? Is this normal routine, or is it an officer trying to justify an arrest and get some $$$$?

I thought I saw somewhere that the injured officer was a detective and Scheffler didn’t realize he was a cop.

Could not disagree more. What is critical in a situation such as this is that we jump to conclusions. What's the fun in waiting for the facts?

I’m not absolutely sure but agree with Joey. If the cop didn’t grab onto the vehicle, it’s a ticket at best. I think a key piece of the info is where did he grab onto the car. If it’s the driver side, then SS is definitely at fault. Otherwise, it’s just stupid to grab onto a moving vehicle and then blame the driver.

I think we look at these situations and say “who appears to be at fault for escalating”?

Obviously a d*ck move to drive up the median but there might have been some panicking as this traffic jam was messing with his pre-round routine.

It appears the cop escalated it unnecessarily. I don’t think police are any more skilled at directing traffic than the average parking lot attendant and, for some reason, directing traffic tends to get people on a power trip where they are immune to logic and reason. Not saying that IS what happened here but it wouldn’t surprise me.

But it sounded like this is SOP for golfers. They show their credentials and drive around stops. Unfortunately there was a fatality which caused the stop in this instance. SS wasn't driving up the median in some random place - it was directly outside the club!

A: I’m posting on a college sports forum, so i’m coming in strong with the hot take

B: It’s just not Scottie. There is zero prior known history in his professional or personal life that would suggest he would severely escalate a basic situation with law enforcement with intent to harm an officer.

SOP or not, number one, listen to police officers. Number two, just because most might do it, doesn't excuse anybody from breaking traffic laws.

Wow!! That's a hot take and so much wrong with your response.

Lmao everyone saw this coming from a mile away

The man from County Offaly with a 62. Had a chance for 61 and just missed. Would have been a major record for low score. Setting up for a fun Sunday.

Lowry with the 62 today. Rose with a 64 today. Xander with the 62 on Thursday. Seems like anyone within the Top 20 could go low and win this.

After getting it to -15, Xander yakked his 2nd shot on 15 and made double, while Morikawa made birdie on a full 360 putt, to take the lead by one. Should be a fun day tomorrow, with lots of great players (probably) within 6 shots.

By far the best day of golf in 2024. Big names all over the board. Big moves by many. This used to be a weekly thing but golf is all screwed up these days. Thanks Jay Monahan
There are 15 players at -10 or better. I'm guessing if you are not in that group buy Powerball tickets simply because you would have to pass 15 players ahead of you.
Weather is supposed to be near perfect tomorrow so buckle up and enjoy the ride.

The Players was still better. Thought today was not great due to all the mud balls. Should be a great finish.
