OT- Best Sandwich chain in America

I live in Somerset so most of mine come from Tastee, but you gotta get your subs from a deli. Joe Leone's in Pt Pleasant makes awesome subs from my old neck of the woods, when we visit the inlaws in Dumont Denaro's is always my stop for subs.

I've only been to his Sea Girt location. Not bad but too pricey for what they were. Expected more for the money.

If you are going to try a chain try Primo's Hoagies. Much better then Jersey Mike's. Bread is better at Primo's and they use Thumann's cold cuts. Primo's is better then most local places I have been to.

Potbelly is my favorite chain by far. Here in Chicago there's one on every corner. But no better sandwich anywhere than a sub from Vito's in Hoboken. In Chicago you can't get a sandwich with fresh mozzarella, they put provolone on an "Italian" sub. Drives me crazy.

Just Subs only has 6 locations in NJ including one in Hillsborough (insert MILF joke here) but I'd vote for them as the best

Was not impressed with JS's (Green Brook) tuna sub. Way too little tuna for the size of the roll. Also, chintzy on the tomatoes. Perhaps Hillsborough is a different story.

Tastee makes a good tuna sub but not worth the 15/20 minute trip frankly. For non chains Joe's MM in South Bound Brook tops Tastee.

NJ Mikes is good, and much better than Subway. I prefer Tastee but it's not a chain.
Tastee is a local place in Edison. Just ok . They are like subway and use fake bread like subway. Try a local deli with real bread. Almost all towns have one.

If I do anything that is not "local," in Hudson, I'll do Blimpie's on Washington St in Hoboken. Very good option IMHO (and absolutely love their 'slaw).

Tastee isn't a chain, but they have multiple locations. It's OK. I have one near work and I go once in a while if I want to get out of the office for a short bit. They're quick and very cheap, and always fine, but if it wasn't five minutes away, I certainly wouldn't bother.

I think it's also an ethnic thing. My Italian friends and I never eat at blimp or subway or tastee places. We prefer the great local delis with real bread and meats. But others have their own taste and to them a subway is excellent. Just like so many think Olive Garden is great Italian. Ugh. We would not be caught dead in there . Big others will argue it's real Italian when it's not. The same with some sandwich places. Some think they are great but don't know better

Carmines on the western side of Jersey City is the best you can get. I loved Blimpies on 25th in Bayonne growing up. As mentioned Potbellies at Exchange Place in JC. Discovered Potbellies while working in DC.

GO RU

What the hell is fake bread?

Tastee, like most local sub shops, gets their bread from a bakery. The thing I like best about Tastee subs is the bread. It isn't too dense, and it isn't too crusty. If you like dense and crusty, then you'd prefer the roll somewhere else. But that doesn't mean that Tastee serves "fake bread".

If you don't know the difference between great bread and the bad crap that places like subway serve then you are a lost cause. You don't get it. Kind of like the people that think Olive Garden is great Italian .

I like soft doughy bread other people like a harder crust

Why would either of those make someone a lost cause

Never been to Olive Garden or most other of those types of restaurants

Of course I know the difference between bread that is good for a sub and bread that is bad for a sub. I'm guessing that you don't, which is why you used an absurd comment like "fake bread". If you were to give me a Subway sandwich, I could tell you exactly what is wrong with the bread (it's been a long time since I've had a Subway sandwich, but from my recollection, the bread was too dense and tasted like it had dough conditioner, it was overly sweet and the crust was too soft -- like hamburger roll soft).

So, tell me what is wrong with the bread at Tastee?

The typical complaints about Tastee is that they don't put enough meat on the sandwiches, that the meat is just generic deli meat, and there isn't enough variety of toppings. The bread is actually Tastee's strength. Their bread is dense enough to soak up the oil and vinegar without getting soggy, but airy enough so that it doesn't overpower the meat and toppings (which is especially important at Tastee, since they are on the light side with the meat). Their rolls are not especially crusty, and I can understand that is someone prefers a crustier sub roll, they won't like the roll at Tastee. But that is personal preference, not a case of using an inappropriate roll.

Then you just keep enjoying the bread at tastee and subway and the real Italian food at Olive Garden .

Thank for being a douche and not answering his question. Tastee buys their bread from a local bakery. Subway heats up frozen dough. Big difference but you're too dumb to know the difference
